Lee and Dale return for another catch up on Highlands 2 Islands. Dale has some time off work and manages to make the most of it with golf, boating and bbq action all bathed in glorious Islands sunshine! Lee takes matters into his own hands as he orders charcoal for Dale after an unacceptable attempt to use an instant bbq tray for steak. As Dales handicap tumbles, Lee places cyber security ahead of golf as he upgrades his home - something which Dale doesn't understand - much like the golf scoring system.

Another fun discussion with plenty to enjoy on Highlands 2 Islands.

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to Highlands to Islands. I'm Lee, chatting to you from the Highlands.

SPEAKER_05

And I'm Dale, Living Life here on the Isles of Scilly.

SPEAKER_02

Each week we'll swap stories from the Highlands to the Islands, local news, DOI disasters, barbecue bragging, gold frustration, all weird and wonderful stuff that fills our weeks.

SPEAKER_05

Basically, it's two brothers-in-law having a laugh, trying to one-up each other, and bringing you along for the ride.

SPEAKER_02

So grab a cupper or a pint and let's jump into today's episode. Now, what's been happening on the docks this week?

SPEAKER_05

Well, this week on the docks, it's basically been me getting in my boat and going off island or boating. Um, I've been off all weeks, so I've no idea if I'm happy days.

SPEAKER_02

Boat's in.

SPEAKER_05

Boat is in the water. That was the last minute. Um shall we put the boat in the water? Yeah, come on then. Uh let's go and have a look at it today and see what needs to do into it. And that turned into launching it straight away after panicking, getting home and searching the internet for a decent insurance. Uh right, yeah. Yeah. To make sure we were covered. And then um, yeah, and it went. Um, and I've I've figured it out. I think that is the way to do it. Is not to build up to I need to spend a week prepping the boat, I need to do this, I need to do that. It's basically go launch now.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, don't ever think stuff. Yeah, it's not a bad idea, I must admit.

SPEAKER_05

So the boat went in early part of the week, and oh, I mean, we've been blessed with some amazing weather here this week. It's been stunningly, isn't it? Sunny and clear and calm seas. Um, went out, been out boating with uh so where do we go last night, went and got fish and chips, and me, Ellen, and Harry jumped on the boat, went and watched a bit of France sailing race, had fish and chips up by the uh Nut Rock, and then uh drifting around, took the dog boat in. We went to Tresco, went to Apple Tree Bay the other day.

SPEAKER_03

Where's Nut Rock? Where's the Nut Rock?

SPEAKER_05

Uh on the sort of uh as you head towards uh Tresco and Briar, yeah. You pass Nut Rock. So it's it's on the sort of um western side of St. Mary's Roads. But it was nice and calm over there. There was still a bit of swell during their sailing race.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry, I'm being silly. Did you say you get it? You got your um fish and chips from Nut Rock?

SPEAKER_05

Oh no, no, sorry, Nut Rock is is literally just a rock in the in the sea. So we went and got fish and chips from the strand. Um I got it from Ashley's. I normally go to Russell's, but I thought he was away in the Russell wouldn't be happy. Scandal. Yeah. Um, but either way, the fish and chips were amazing. Um, so come on.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, you know, controversially, sorry about asking now, you've brought it up. Is it better? Uh I'd say on a par, you know, fish and chips. Very diplomatic, Del, very diplomatic. It's like a man who looks after the royals, he knows just knows how to uh finesse that kind of uh uh turbulent questions as I throw them at you. You just pounced them off.

SPEAKER_05

Nothing too controversial. No, it's very nice uh fish and chips. Uh Ellen had some uh squid, I think. Um, and Harry had chicken nuggets, and we we ate them on the boat out and uh sat up by Nut Rock watching the race. Ah, right, gotcha, sorry. Um, so that was that was really nice. Um a day or so before that, we went out up to Apple Tree Bay on Tresco. Uh and again this week, uh being off and the weather's been so nice, the tides were perfect for us as well. So just beach the boat, um, let the dog run around up and down the beach. She had a whale of a time. She's been introduced to sand hoppers, which she's never seen before, so that kept her occupied for the entire time we were on the beach. Um which was great. Went for a swim. Oh, that was that was just glorious. Really, really lovely uh week off work. Um, totally relaxed, even with putting the boat in. Um and even you know, maybe a highlight of the week is also being cutting the grass again and and watching watching the lawn develop. Um still looking good, plenty of watering and all this heat, worrying about it too much. Um but uh no, so I've no idea what's been happening on the docks. Um, it's uh it's been a week of relaxation. We had a barbecue, we had some friends and family around. Um that went really well. Way too much red wine. Um did she hack your uh notes on the uh uh so Michelle has to be uh mentioned in this. Um so uh Michelle Black, yes, uh star of the barbecue the other night. Uh um one of one of our favourite guests here so far at uh at Gull Rock. Uh you know, and and she made that night. It was it was it was a perfect night. Uh so all down to Michelle. She laughs at my jokes. So yeah. She's a good guest then. There maybe it may have been a head injury somewhere along the line then. Uh but no, she she was she was oblivious to Highlands to Island. She didn't know it existed. Um so she left fully appraised of the podcast and with some merchandise uh in the form of a sticker on the back of a phone. So off to spread the word.

SPEAKER_02

Uh I just looked at the so for listeners that are where we have a uh we both use notes of of stuff that we may want to discuss during the week as a shared so you can see if the other person's type on it. And I just uh I just suddenly stuffed on the note of uh Michelle Michelle visits to Michelle is great. I was like, what's going on here? Michelle is will spread the word. I was just like, Michelle, because I sorry Michelle, I totally forgot uh uh uh Anna's uh cousin. Uh but uh uh and I was like I was like, have you been hacked? And then I saw Instagram and it all made sense then.

SPEAKER_05

I got your message, who's Michelle? And I woke up the next morning looking at it going, I see your number.

SPEAKER_02

I was just like, has he been hacked? Have the notes been hacked? Have we been compromised already? Oh dear, the Koreans have hacked into our note system.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, um, she was um she was delighted to hear about the podcast, so um hopefully Michelle will spread the word.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, Fred does, I mean, you know. She was probably drunk when she was extremely excited about it, and now she's gonna uh uh she may regret.

SPEAKER_05

No, now you mention it, that you might be right, actually. Yeah, it's probably that one too many times.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I haven't seen any uh um posts from her yet or uh stuff, so we'll we'll wait and see. But we'll know if she's been listening because she couldn't she'll far into the uh Instagram uh account of a uh message, hopefully.

SPEAKER_05

To be fair though, um one of our sons, Austin, has already started following us, so um, he'll be on it and and listening. Um and uh young Arthur, he's a Newcastle fan, so we had uh I went and got my Newcastle top on to sit next to him uh with his newcastle top on as well, which is quite a bit.

SPEAKER_02

Why man?

SPEAKER_05

Why I man? And uh I said to him, You can't be a true Geordie because he put his um fleece on at the end of the night, but he is only little, so okay. Excellent. And uh really really lovely week. That was a really nice barbecue, actually. So that was that was good fun. Um we had quite quite a few rounds. Jules and Yun came round as well. Um uh me and Fran and Harry and Ellen. Harry's cadet camp got cut short um due to heat wave um which has engulfed uh core wall near the silly. So they were on the fire firing range and they had nowhere for for any sort of shade or shelter. So they what was supposed to be a five-day camp ended up into just uh a couple of nights away from them.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_05

It's a bit of a shame, but he he they had a good time over there. But um, yeah, glorious weather all this uh over the last year. Yes, um and you've seen some of it as well.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's been yeah, gosh, it's been absolutely blistering hot in here. Uh plenty of golf, uh um, like yourself. Uh trying to keep up with you. Inspired me to uh work on my uh stroke play game. So I've been out a couple of times. How is that? Uh it went okay. In fact, that's all it takes a lot of focus. It's okay if in your own and you sit there and you're just literally just gonna go, right? I'm gonna play boring, steady golf bang. But as soon as one of the things I noticed is I played nine holes in Latinston and I went around really successfully. Uh 44, I was just like, oh, that's good, you know. Lovely. Um, but then um I got back to Murray on Tuesday afternoon, yeah, um, and uh 102. Uh so it was a 50 and a 52. Um, and that was playing with a couple of people there. And it's interesting. You just I I think a lot of it is not concentrate. Uh uh the concentration. That's a it's a slightly harder course, in fact, because fifth 102 is uh isn't as well, it's bad, but it's not as bad as it could be, uh, depending considering the uh um slope for that course. All terms that mean nothing to you, but uh each course has got a uh uh so my handicap on there is I get an additional stick shots, I think, on top of my handicap. Um so yeah, that's it's a tough course. Well, it's just good, it's got a lot of gulfs, so you can a lot of opportunities lose both. So I sat the the first was going all right, and I went into the bunker. I'm normally quite good on bunkers. Uh so I was uh chipping for like an up and down uh for par, and then I chipped, uh came out of the bunker, I didn't go out. I was like, there's nothing worse. I thought, oh my god, I don't want to start off bad air, you know, digging out the sand. And my uh fourth it wasn't well, my second shot at the bunker, my uh uh fourth for par. I just chipped in, came up, and just rolled in this like a proper pro. Oh it just sat me on the first, you know. The the club went up so Complete Strangers could uh could see that completed it. I've got some rightly so some uh banter from um I hope you did a club drop, you know, completed completed golf. Completed golf, or just because I sort of I just yeah, I just looked around like this is normal for me. I'm always doing this. This is our role. Uh yeah, it was yeah, so yeah. But uh how about yourself?

SPEAKER_05

You've I think you've been you've been I've been golfing every day. Um I've managed to make it to the course every day this week and twice on Wednesday. So um I've seen my my handicap tumble uh on my England golf. I still don't understand how they do it, but I've gone from I think it was a 31.3 or something down to 28.7. So nice um progress. Uh that's tumbling, that is tumbling, yeah. Um so I did nine holes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and then I did another nine in the afternoon on Wednesday, yesterday. Yesterday was rubbish because that was the the morning after um the uh the barbecue. Oh and I played crap, absolutely crap. Uh and then not long in from playing with uh Tim today uh on Friday. So a glorious week of golf and an outside chance of playing again tomorrow with Harry.

SPEAKER_02

So how'd you go on this afternoon?

SPEAKER_05

Uh not not as great. 50. Um keeping it in there though. Steady, I think, is it putting is uh it's either amazing or it's you know two foot putt mess or a twelve foot putt sink it. It's it's it's frustrating. Um but no, some some really good shots uh and some really crap shots classic golf. But I really enjoyed it. I think it's the whole week has been set around just not being at work basically and switching off, relaxing, um, not getting involved in anything at work, and just I I the the blessing has been this weather. It is just oh it's been fantastic after the the back end of last week and the stress and the hassle of of work and and the royal visit as well, uh being able just to switch off completely and and and then the weather's turned up, um as everyone else has been here on holiday as well. So I've just blended in with the holiday makers, got the flip-flops on, big wide-brimmed hat-ons to protect my baldy heed, yeah, and just melt into the background and nobody recognises me, so it's been lovely.

SPEAKER_02

Excellent.

SPEAKER_05

I've got I've I've actually I haven't done any further progress on my barbecue replacement. Um uh but uh we had I think we had a few barbecues this week actually. We had one on Tuesday night, Wednesday, and I think we might have even had one on Monday as well, actually.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'd had an awful rumour. Uh I'm not sure if it's true, but uh did you just use the uh takeaway barbecue coals?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, so they it was it true? We did we did have one on a Monday, it might have been on Sunday or the Monday. Um we lit down at the co-op and of course there was no um charcoal at all because everyone else had the same idea. Um but Fran managed to recover a couple of the um takeaway trades that went on the barbecue for some steaks and uh god that didn't work for steaks. Um that's they ended up they ended up on the um uh in the kitchen in the pan.

SPEAKER_02

It's just the um I mean uh it's the uh don't go wrong, you know, they serve a purpose that you know, uh, but the uh when you start uh using decent charcoal, etc. The uh the smell with the paraffin that's all over the uh those that all over your lovely steaks. Yeah, so I was told on this room and I was just like, What?

SPEAKER_05

Just get it bulk ordered, get it from the mainland, get the decent restaurant grade um uh no nobody was happy about it, but we were because I even went to the neighbour to say, Have you got any uh charcoal? He's like, No, mate, there's none on the island. I'm like, ah, great. So we were committed to using the uh the little trays, which well, they got the stakes going a little bit, and then the realization uh not long afterwards was yeah, they're shit.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_05

But uh so uh still in the in the uh in the market for a new barbecue, but I think we're gonna commit to probably a gas because I think we want that when there's no charcoal on the island.

SPEAKER_02

You've got to be able to absolutely disgusted. I'm almost gonna stop this podcast now, to be honest. I know whose fault that is. Uh, she sat there with her uh with her uh flirting with the uh doctors, and you're gonna be doing it. Just you've got a mass, just get a get a case of uh um uh charcoal delivered. I know charcoal bricks, mate. That's what you you'd be I sat there giving it. Yeah, I agree. The island's an absolute nightmare for that, but if only you had a big garage where you could store stuff.

SPEAKER_05

Uh it'll be another thing. I you're right, and and I have to do that. Um I struggle to find all the barbecue attachments.

SPEAKER_02

I've got four four bags probably down something. I can just get go down B and Q and get them, but I've got uh big K.

SPEAKER_05

Send some over here then.

SPEAKER_02

Stop stoping bag with you in the summer. Um I bloody might do, yeah. It's called Amazon. Just go on there and get big K, restaurant charcoal. I'm what I'm literally tempted to order you a bag now. Do you know what? No, do you know what I am gonna do? Like live on here now, right? This right, there we go. Right, I'm gonna literally. I mean, I we don't do video, so don't I don't know what I'm doing this, but uh uh I'm gonna sit here now out of absolute horror uh of this to ensure restaurant grade. Yeah, there we go, right, there we go. Right.

SPEAKER_04

Um restaurant grade. I didn't know they they graded it. Christmas, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Of course, well, you want you want a big uh I mean, you know, don't get it wrong. Ideally, uh you want the um uh the larger charcoal that was exactly one of those lovely uh big uh uh lump wood lumpwood stuff in there, yeah. That's what you want, right? There we go.

SPEAKER_05

Well, as you know, there's a struggle with getting stuff delivered to the islands in general. And and most notably with my wine delivery, which didn't appear. Um, so they sent me another one, and then promptly both have appeared um almost together. Um so I'm uh I feel a little bit um and a bit guilty about that. But um, they have sent me another email today to say, I hope your second case has arrived. Which I did reply to them and say, Yes, it has, as has the original, um, and they seem to be quite cool with that. So um plenty of wine. Uh I'm not sure if it'll last as long uh until you get here. So maybe I should order some now, uh, just in time for your well, I mean, yeah, it's it doesn't evaporate, right?

SPEAKER_02

I almost went to the wrong house, right? There we go. Right, deliver to this address, right? So, um, I mean, in fairness, I don't know when it's gonna arrive, but you've got some uh uh uh charcoal coming your way. There we go.

SPEAKER_05

I'll probably use it before you get here.

SPEAKER_02

Please do. I just want to show you how easy it is that you can think ahead and go, you know what, it's the summer. If I just get four bags, it's in there ready for me. Yeah, the four, you know, you've you know you've you're islanders, you've lived on there long enough to know that you know perishables, I get it, but stuff like that, you get to get it stopped.

SPEAKER_05

We we can adapt and overcome. We we're we're revert reverted back to the kitchen. And and to be fair, you know, yeah, exactly. Frank cooks in the kitchen aren't that bad.

SPEAKER_02

So um they are good, exactly. Yeah, but no, looking forward to put them on the hex clad are we on the hex clad.

SPEAKER_05

We're still on the hex clad, yeah. Um they're they're quite enjoyable. Enjoyable, it's the wrong word.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, quite very versatile. We're bits of kit those.

SPEAKER_05

But we we suffer here. I don't know. Have you got gas in your place?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_05

You're all electric. Yeah, we we are as well. Um I I'm not that I'm I know what the hell I'm doing in a kitchen at all, but I'm pretty certain Fran would jump at the chance to having gas mains uh and a gas cooker, um, as opposed to an electric um what you may call it. Yeah, I can't remember the name of it. Pyro.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, in fact, you're in the same thing. You might run out of gas uh on the island as well. So you you're better off. But in fact, the more I'm going down this, you just want to get that you get that uh decision out of your head. Uh that very gas barbecue. You're better than that.

SPEAKER_05

You know, you can get a decent uh so we used to have one before, but I only ever used the gas to light the charcoals above it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, commit just the I mean I'm surprised the Weber. I'd be tempted to check out the warranty on that Weber because I aren't uh meant to be outdoory. So to throw a rust, I'm uh um I think we've we've had it gotta be gone on 10 years now.

SPEAKER_05

Um I gotta go back to the box.

SPEAKER_02

I mean there's some bloody good barbecues on there as well. I mean, incredible barbecues, dare I say. I mean, you know, there is some whilst I'm giving you neat shit on your choice of charcoal, um, there's been some absolute cracking. Uh uh belters.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I haven't had any um lobster or crampers.

SPEAKER_02

Lobsters, yeah, there's been some great stuff coming from there. Um, yeah. I'm sure despite the bullet commando Joe, um, big Joe, you need as well. I was looking, I was eyeballing the other day after a conversation, kind of what size you need the next size up from mine because uh you do a lot more uh uh commercial cooking for uh everyone coming around. Um commercial cooking. Well, not commercial, I mean you know, entertaining. Um, so you could yeah, go down that that size.

SPEAKER_05

I'll go I'll get that size. Everyone will visit and go away, and then I'll just and the kids will all be at college or away, and it'll be me and Fran, and we're gonna have to revert back to the little trays.

SPEAKER_02

It's never gonna go like that. When when have you not had like 20 million people run for a barbecue?

SPEAKER_05

Uh yeah, there's always lots of people, but it is good fun though. Um, and it's a versely good fun. And and strangely, and I don't know what it is, it happens all the time. All the blokes just you know, like a magnet around the barbecue standing there. All right, what are you using? Yeah, what have you got on there? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. All chatting about the barbecue. Um, well, and I've no idea what the women did. I think Fran gave them a tour of the house because it was the first time they'd been here.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, fair enough. Yeah. Um I like the tradition on the photo from the uh uh looking down, it's quite good.

SPEAKER_05

So Michelle was I I'd said to Michelle that you know, we had to make sure you were our first barbecue guest here because um when she came to visit us at Launston Close, she's like, I've seen these photographs, everyone has this photo of around the table from so that Michelle has almost started this as a thing. That that table photograph has is become a thing now that people who come around. So we we've we've got a good uh view from weirdly the bathroom window upstairs down onto the um yeah, it's always been a thing now.

SPEAKER_02

It was a thing, it was a thing on the city.

SPEAKER_05

Slowly became a thing. I never really sort of clicked on it until Michelle had mentioned it. So um she has made it in the the first one at Gull Rock here.

SPEAKER_02

Um the patio.

SPEAKER_05

On the patio, um and don't mention that she looked like she was squatting weirdly in the photograph, but um but but she was.

SPEAKER_02

But for anyone for the listeners, go to Instagram and you'll see it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it's it it is all there. So um yeah, excellent. I I feel like a proper man of leisure being tired of of doing um relaxing uh and just chilling out things, um, which has been great. Haven't really done much to the house at all this week, um, with a view of doing loads. Um I washed the patio, um, got the uh the carcher out and testing all the uh attachments and uh have you got the uh patio clean attachment?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, really good. So I'm really impressed with it. And uh more so, and I think Fran used it on the car today, the um the foam dispenser that comes out of it. So just because it comes out as a thick blanket of foam, you think, yes, this is professional grade here. I'm all over it now. Um It it it gives you a different feeling from just brushing something in and rinsing it off with water. So that's all it's doing ultimately. But um weirdly it makes you feel a bit better about it. So it came up quite well.

SPEAKER_02

Which one do you have you got a snow uh foam gun or is it the one that plugs into the actual catcher itself?

SPEAKER_05

You can do either or so you can either have it plugging into the hose at the back of the pressure washer or the bottle that connects to the gun and it and it'll spray the foam from there.

SPEAKER_02

Which um which ones have you got to use it? Can you put your own um soap in it or have you got to use the curcha?

SPEAKER_05

Oh no, well, they it came with a couple of bottles of patio cleaner and car cleaner. Um and when that runs out, we'll revert back to what everyone else does and use fairy liquid.

SPEAKER_02

Um yeah, see I've got uh um yeah, that that little um so you can get the um the um uh snow foam uh containers. So not those, not those. It it sits underneath. So do you get did you get the little small handle thing I suggested as is is useful?

SPEAKER_05

No, not yet.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so the snow guns, the touch run, yeah. Oh cool share goes, yeah. You can go front of the kerch or you can get the the small ones, and then you use the um um what's the good uh stuff for washing the car? I've I've yeah, it it is I uh put the old snow foam on it. Um it is worth doing um um because you can get in the B and Q, but uh again, Amazon, your friend, you just get the bulk by the um um big ones because it's pretty expensive and um yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I've got I'm gonna have to order a few bits more, and again, half the battle of of order and stuff is remembering what you've ordered. Yeah, um, and I've got that panic on at the moment because it's it's Fran's birthday next week. Um, and she'd ask you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, she's 50, ain't she? Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

She might swing, she might swing for you.

SPEAKER_02

Auto Glim. Well, get us get us some auto glim polar wash. Uh two and a half litre. Uh uh, get the big ones, and she'll be able to do the car with that.

SPEAKER_05

I think she's just done it today. To be fair, it's looking good. I don't know what she's used on it. Um, probably the patio cleaner, but uh when you but the um uh yeah, so the stuff that's been ordered, uh and I've forgotten now. Um so I'm panicking every time the the sort of doorbell goes, it's like oh shit, that might be a button. No, don't don't don't open that.

SPEAKER_01

Don't yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I'm pretty sure we've got a shared account, so it might have been ordered on if something's coming from Amazon, it's got her name on it.

SPEAKER_02

So even funnier. That is genius. It's just uh and it does that to me. In fact, she's done don't she's like, don't look at your don't look at your email for the Amazon account on my I'm not I've I've I've I cannot look at the Amazon account for yeah, your package is on its way, yeah. But my emails you're gonna have to uh juggle on that one.

SPEAKER_05

Um so we've we've got a few more bits to arrive, and that yeah, it's almost the downside. They either arrive the next day, like some bits have arrived, um, or you're waiting a month um whilst they're sat in a depot somewhere on the mainland. Yeah. Oh well, real world problems, but I'm sure it will all get here eventually.

SPEAKER_02

But if you see a if you see a large looking card.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, it's here. It's here.

SPEAKER_02

Ah, it's uh plenty LC. We're we're ahead of it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that is unusual. I won't lie.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Anna was on that. She's I'm not joking, she's been giggling to herself for days.

SPEAKER_05

Well, everybody else's birthdays, it's normally a few days late, so exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, she's she's well she knows it's uh it's part, so she's uh made sure uh uh for one. It's a big birthday, you see, so you know she needs to get it right.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I was gonna say, not only have you you healed her hip in uh record time, but you've also managed to to sort out her um uh getting busty cars to arrive on time.

SPEAKER_02

No, that went on the um I think that went on the uh uh board. Uh so that was definitely yeah, that was everyone remembered.

SPEAKER_05

No, that's here, that arrived today because we all looked at it and went, that's from Anna.

SPEAKER_02

Is it big, is it?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, it's it's about half the size of the door. Okay, excellent.

SPEAKER_02

That when she said it was just like, well, you know, that's what Fran does, so we need to make sure excellent.

SPEAKER_05

Well, we'll look forward to seeing that um on it's not till Tuesday, so we've got a few more days to wait. Exactly. Yeah, yes, a few more days for her things to arrive, hopefully, as well. Otherwise, it'll be a bit of a. If you got a few that I haven't arranged, I haven't uh yeah, not arrived yet, but uh you know, you get the classic um it's been dispatched, but that's you know, that's just chucking stuff up in the air. Yeah, that could be anywhere.

SPEAKER_02

Oh girls. Any boats coming and arriving?

SPEAKER_05

Uh uh Yeah, they're all on time, so it's whether or not it's it's strange, it's a little dull, but the the different courier companies will send you as happened with my wine. Your wine case has been delivered. Yeah, no, it hasn't, because it's it's been delivered to a mainland depot, and then that it goes into some sort of um black hole, uh, and sometimes it's been handed to the steamship company or it's in their own depot until they get enough stuff to bring to the steamship company. Um, and then when once you've written your email of complaint and disgust, um you hit send and the doorbell goes, and there it is. You're like, oh shit, um too late.

SPEAKER_02

On their uh game when those lights of yours uh look like they hadn't arrived, and I went, right, that's it. I want to claim a refund on that. And then they bloody arrived, and uh they were on it straight away. I don't thought, oh, that'll be alright there. We'll get a freebie, uh, get another free set. They could have two sets of lights there, and then uh no, no, no, no. It's just you you owe us the amount of money uh because it's now arrived. Um because I think it came on the post office, and they obviously a bit more uh Royal Mail's very good for the islands.

SPEAKER_05

That stuff arrives really promptly and and and on time. But those lights are up, they're up in the garden.

SPEAKER_01

Good lights, didn't they?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, they're awesome. Um, although I mean I did say to friends, you know, what where are they plugged into? And she's wedged it through the door, the side door in the garage into an extension cable that's and I'm like um if only we had an outdoor socket, an all-weather outdoor socket that we could plug into. She's like, Oh, you can't leave them out there. I was like, that's exactly what it's designed for, is is to be plugged in and it locks shut up. Left. Yeah. Pete, who built his house um next door but one to us, lived off that via an extension cable for about a year. Yeah, yeah. Um, it's so I need to go and reverse the uh the lights, but they they do look good, they are awesome. They light up the garden brilliantly.

SPEAKER_02

Have you? I'm not sure what's the what what what times it gets dark there? Are you actually seeing them lit as in when it's dark or tennis?

SPEAKER_05

Um but and to be fair, most nights we are sort of going to bed anyway. So we're I think they'll come into their own in autumn, winter.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I got up last night for an old man's piss. Our garden looks lovely with those solars at one or two in the morning. Honestly, night pollution. Oh, it was literally. I'm I'm waiting for the neighbours to kick off because it was because it's so sunny, all of the solars are charged, the all of the lights are up there, the olive trees are illuminated, and this dream of the Mediterranean uh uh garden is it's there, but just it's too late at night.

SPEAKER_05

You're gonna have to um reset your working day to be sat out there 11 at night, isn't that slightly?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, gold, yeah, sorry about it. Yeah, I think we've got the uh sunder that um cold front that was hit the west has just squeezed a few isobars today, so we've got a bit of greyness through uh a little bit of a pain, but uh uh I might be playing blue golf on Sunday.

SPEAKER_05

What sort of temperature do you are you getting up to up there? I mean, I know you you're you're still fairly coastal, so it's but what um 20 degrees yeah but it's been 20s today.

SPEAKER_02

It's been yeah, it's been 20s today and it's not it's and it's cold. It's just dropping starting fact just looking at now, start starting to drop down now. But um um yeah.

SPEAKER_05

We drove back. Um we bombed over oh we had a lot same thing, last minute. It's always the way to do it. And Fran said Oh, shall we go? The kids want to go boating. And I was like, Oh, shall we? I sort of you know got playing golf this afternoon. And um, well, we could we could go and have lunch. I was like, Yep, let's go to the ruin for lunch. So bomb down the quay, jump in the boat and off to Ruin for lunch. Absolutely stunning, just crystal clear waters all the way across. Harry drove us over, same thing, but tides were um fantastic for us. I just ran the boat onto the beach, everyone jumped out and uh walked up to the restaurant, had lunch, and then uh and then headed back afterwards. And it was um we got back in the car and it said that well eventually we got back in the car. We put everything in the car, all our life jackets and and junk in the car, shut the boot, and the car locked itself in town. I was like, fuck. Um it's about two o'clock, yeah. Uh and the spare keys are at home. Tim fortunately, weirdly, was passing through town. Gave me a lift to get the keys. Got in the car with a spare set, and it said it was 19 and a half degrees. And I kid you not, I know I'm a day walker, but it felt like mid-20s, high twenties uh temperature, but scorching, absolutely scorching today.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, you know, that sounds. Uh, I'm doing my best not to uh uh lose Anna uses that excuse. It's 30 degrees because it says it on the indoor. I'm like, no, it's it's not there. I've just checked the uh uh uh my um outdoor weather station. Yeah, it's been average of 20 odd degrees today, so yeah, I'm content with my uh uh assessment of the we uh of the temperature. Oh, there it is coming down now. It's 23 degrees in in the house, right? What is there any bloody heating on it? It's bloody hot. In 23 degrees indoors, that's the lounge.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So we we're hitting I mean, up at the uh the airport where they take our weather temperature. I mean it's it's it was saying that it was 18, 19 degrees to get today, mate, out of the wind. I say I saw the photos today, it looked hotter than that.

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, exactly. So uh it's it's I saw when when you just dialed into this uh uh podcast, I looked at you and you look like you've been freaking sweltering. I was just like, Jesus Christ. It is.

SPEAKER_05

I I've been very um on it with sun cream factor 50 or factor 30 is the lowest I'll go. Uh yeah, well exactly.

SPEAKER_02

I think yeah, I'm not um yeah, I put on the 50. Um yeah, gotta be done, mate. Gotta be done.

SPEAKER_05

Kid's saying, I don't have a tan, all my freckles have just joined up. Um but uh yeah, I Harry's there, and he's got I mean, as a boldy heated person, I can you'd probably say I'm just jealous, but he's got his hair's never been longer. And I was like, you can cut your hair, he's like, no, not really fast. I'm like, you've got to be, it almost looks like cold stream guards, you know, one of those massive mountains. Oh god hair on top of them. I was like, Christ, you've got to be bacon in that. No, I'm following. Um well they'll always say the opposite. If it's too they're warm, if they're too warm, they're they're cold. But um no, it's uh it's bizarre, it's almost like summer is here on Silly um for the for the school holidays, uh, or for this Whitson week half time.

SPEAKER_02

It's done well when it I'm out, I must have met. Normally we get one of those weeks, you know, people go on all around just pissing down the rain.

SPEAKER_05

So it's lost as it pisses down and is thunder and lightning. Although we had a we had an amazing um thunderstorm through the night in the week early in the week, um, four in the morning, because I had the window open just to try and get some air into the house. Yeah. Um it was literally as if Harry was flicking the light on and off in the in the bedroom, it was just on, off, on, off, just the sheet light and and then the rain that came down, biblical rain with not a drop of wind, so just straight down. So I was delighted thinking about the lawn, obviously, thinking yes, this is perfect time for the rain. Um, and I've googled it now. I'll say Googled it, I've done some research on Tinterweb, but between 4 am and 10am is the optimum time to be watering your lawn before that that height of you know midday sun gets in. So um yeah, that was pretty welcome. The uh thunderstorm.

SPEAKER_02

We only had one um that was um you got the you can get uh it appeared in my thing in the old uh um timer um uh thing so your uh outdoor taps you can have it all plugged in um and it will kick off at that stage. Oh but you have to but you have to move the um uh um yeah, you have to still walk the uh um uh move the bloody um thing, wouldn't you?

SPEAKER_05

I've been chatting to Pete Gilbert about this. There's gotta be a sprinkler that will cover my lawn. It's not you know, we we haven't got Wembley out there. So it's it's it's a bit annoying. Um because you think, yep, I'll set the sprinkler off, I'll just leave it. You think, well, I can't, I've got to wait now to move it again. There's gotta be another system that will cover that that size alone. Um, but again, real-world problems, but um, I won't complain about the water because I'm running off Pete's water at the moment because he's yet to have his meter fitted.

SPEAKER_02

So of course you of course you guys are uh are meters, isn't you? That's one thing you go for Scotland, you sit there, and I must admit, when I'm I'm laughing over the water shortage in uh uh uh in England, and you just sat there with all the sprinklers on and washing the car. So I switched that tap off. Nah, let it run till you get proper cold.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we're all watching to be fair. Well, I mean, it's it's not expensive water, but um the the price she pays for the sewerage, so yeah, that's the blessing of being on our own system here with our own soak away. Um, is that we don't have to pay that. So yeah, the water is is is minimal, but um as minimal as it is, I'm still using Pete's free water. So exactly.

SPEAKER_02

That's the best type of water, free water.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, leave that.

SPEAKER_02

Big shout out to Pete Pete and his water. Thank you very much.

SPEAKER_05

It it swings and roundabouts because we he he lived off our electric for about uh a year and a half um as he built his house. So um we're living off his water at the moment. Well, not there, actually. The lawn is living off him at the moment, which is good. Um, not that he's paying for it, so that's yet. I think when that happens, he may um be not really happy, yeah. Run it running the hose all day through through from his place.

SPEAKER_02

But yeah. Yeah, you're right. It's funny, I haven't I don't think I have seen a uh um um one that does because it's your look, yeah, front lawn's probably the size of yeah, what you're looking at doing, and it's an absolute well it is a pain. First of all, problems you're right, but you just gotta continue moving it around.

SPEAKER_05

Um I thought the one that got was was gonna be sufficient to cover the entire lawn, but no, it's gone. I've got to do some more research on that, I think. Um and I'm I'm all I'm only determined because uh we've we've gone to such effort to get this lawn in and and make it look good, and it and it does. I'm I'm just looking at it now actually as we're talking. It looks bloody good, even if I do say so myself. Um after it's cut cut again this morning. Um and I went down a grade on on the uh on John's old call cast uh lawn electric lawn mower. Right. And it was like a crew cut. It's like, oh shit, no, stop. Gonna have to go back up a back up a level. Um bit of heat. Yeah, yeah, it's looking alright. Looking not too bad at all. I'll probably go and get the hose after this and do a bit of uh evening sprinkling tonight, I think.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, put it on podcast on or a beer when you go around.

SPEAKER_05

Uh no, I generally just listen to music. And it takes me about an hour to do it all. Uh as long as I can drag it out. I don't want to do too long. We've got um takeaway in a film tonight. Any any recommendations?

SPEAKER_02

Um, there was something on there on Apple TV. I'm sure there's something on Apple TV that's sprung up there. Um I haven't ever recommended at work and I forgot it. Go on talk, and I'll try and find it.

SPEAKER_05

I was gonna say, um, there was a guy from the American office who was in the hangover as well. Um, he uh because she said, Oh, what was that film that you watched when you were younger, the comedy um National Lampoons Vacation? I went, Oh yeah, I said that was epic, the ones that they did, the European one, or the the one to Wally World. Oh, there's a a new one with the guy from the office who's also in Hangover, the guy who gets the um face tattoo. Um, what's he called? I think he's Andy in the in the American.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

SPEAKER_05

He he's the son of Clark Griswold and and tries to recreate a visit to Wally World or something like that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I've seen it, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I haven't seen it, so I don't Fran will hate it.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, I'm gonna say I wouldn't recommend that one if Fran's gonna watch it. It's easy watching, don't get me wrong. I'm not gonna guess it, but uh uh yeah, it's it's not it's not a it's not a date night film, then no, no. Have you started watching Legends yet on uh Netflix? A lot of people have recommended them. I mean I I mean I I would be having not seen it, but the reviews I'm getting from uh uh the crew at work, it's the legends. I'll need to get Anna on that.

SPEAKER_05

Um what is that about then?

SPEAKER_02

Oh that's a really good question, Dow. I mean, yeah it's a customs officer who turned a turned spies attempting to infiltrate a British heroin uh empire. Uh it's but it's the he's he's one what are these the guys there's a guy there who's teaching some custom uh officers to be into spies to infiltrate uh uh uh this uh British heroin. Um it's based a true story, I think. Um it's got uh Steve Coogan in it.

SPEAKER_03

Steve Coogan's in it. I've just I've just googling it now. I know Tom Burton.

SPEAKER_02

It's meant to be really good.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it's only just come out as well.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we might have uh a try at that. We we need a new um series to watch.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we do, yeah. I need to uh get on to Anna's um um hopefully she's making some dinner, but uh uh she's out for a walk at the moment, so we'll need to how's uh is that uh recovery complete?

SPEAKER_05

Is she did dis discharged Anna from your period?

SPEAKER_02

I have, yeah. She's been swimming this week. Um yeah, giving it big lips.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, actually, I did see a picture of uh in the sea at the end.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean I when I say swimming, obviously I mean just walking into water and just uh bobbing around up and down, but uh uh uh I always have to dubious on the uh stats that come out on strive. I don't think we've got lengths there yet, but you know, hey, it's just done out there. I mean, at this time of year. Oh, it fairness, it's freezing every all the time, but uh she's out there uh um uh yeah, it's to be her now.

SPEAKER_05

Well, as you know, the water here is bloody freezing, and uh over to Tresco on Tuesday. Um oh man, that's but once you're in, it's that weird thing, and that's what I hate about it, is getting in. In fact, me and Fran went down Pendrethon on Monday. Uh went in for a swim there. Same thing, it's it's so cold getting in. But once you're in, um, and your body basically goes numb and starts shutting down.

SPEAKER_02

Um one day I'll know where the hell you're talking about some of these places. I was just thinking of it, and that's funny or something.

SPEAKER_05

So walk walk down the track from out the front of our house, keep walking down past Claude's house, all the way down past the quarry. Oh, yeah. Sorry, that was a slipway down there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um right, cool, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Pendrethon. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah, yeah. That's that's the place for you guys, that's now old town equivalent of uh get your swims in there, isn't it?

SPEAKER_05

So we're we're almost on the verge of discussing electric vehicles um now because on the walk back up, Fran said, Oh, imagine if we had one of those electric um quad bikes or an electric, there's like a like a gator version. I think the Palar. I mean they're really, really expensive, new, but there's a I think there's a few coming out second hand now. I think a little bit longer they'll they'll come down in price, but they're they're quite good. And there's a few of them over here on the islands now, they're they're getting a bit popular. Um, something like that, charge up on the panels.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, you I mean it you literally will just you'll never use a car again. It's just the amount of electric you guys are generating the moment, it'll just it's do you know what's weird?

SPEAKER_05

Um brands looking into getting this smart meter sorted because uh you need to. Uh uh solar just shuts down now because it's like yeah, well, I don't need to generate anymore because your battery's topped up. We're we're covering what you're using in the house, so we'll just shut down everything else.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so where mine it sits there and kind of it's annoying because you mentally you want to sit there and think, Well, I want you 100%. It's like, no, no, no, you don't. Um, you just need it for the amount of time that you're up and doing stuff. Because if uh I'm then gonna sell the rest to the uh so we sit there like uh you know when we come back from work thinking, why is it selling? Well, because that's the peak usage in the on the grid. Um so it's uh, oh you want that, and then of course we go to bed and it's it's it's done, it's you know, it's still got some uh power wall left and it'll charges from the um uh the cheap rate again. Cheaper rate, uh and then you kind of get that surge in the morning, then it tops up, stays up, you know, uh certainly this week, uh uh up all day, and then it's just starts. Selling it back to the grid uh in the peak usage. Um yeah. I mean it's not you're not, you know, don't get it wrong, you're not stuck there being able to uh buy bloody uh new drivers, uh, but it's offsetting some of it.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I think we we even had a chat this week about would it be worth us getting a second battery? Um because it it is we're we're not using enough and it's just stopping generating. And you think, well, if we had a second battery and it would top that up, that would last I don't know, I'm sure there's pros and cons of it. But if we did get um an electric vehicle, I mean that doesn't need to charge every day either.

SPEAKER_02

So no, no, but you what you can do, you see, is you just end up plugging the the the uh the car in as a second battery that becomes a second battery because it's much bigger the battery. Well, a car is anyway, but uh that would be big, so it'll be another battery. So you'll be because when we used uh before we had the um uh smart meter uh all hooked up, we'd be sat there giving it it's uh because we were cleared to uh um uh feed the grid. Um we could um and we were getting the grid was getting it for free. So we'd got around switching on everything that's electric, you're not having it for free. Just sat there, tumble dryer on. I've got one pair of socks, get it in there.

SPEAKER_05

Fran did that today. I said, What are you doing? She's not putting the tumble dryer on. I said, Look at the weather outside. So, no, no, no, the the the the solar switched off and it's and it's not generating, so I'm switching everything on. Too pretty right. Fair enough, yeah. Get the washing machine, the dishwasher, the tumble dryer, everything was on. Um but uh what I did notice was that the biggest uh draw on it is something that um I can't be accused of using, which is a hair dryer. So hair dryers go on with Ellen. Harry's got one as well, and then Fran, you think Chris, there goes the battery, but you end up um yeah, obsessed with the uh with the app. Who's who's got that switched on?

SPEAKER_02

Who's doing that? It's great, you know, when you watch that spike there, you can see how much you control.

SPEAKER_05

You're like, what's this going on there?

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_05

What um so what what is this about? Uh is this you becoming a network engineer?

SPEAKER_02

Or is this yeah? So uh this is I I say this is a funny story, it's not a funny story, but it made me smile. So I was sat in the garden uh reading newspaper Saturday, Sunday, just loving it. And then and I was like, first world problems, the internet. I was just like, I need to get internet out here. And I looked across and uh I was like, Oh, the garage is there in the window there. I thought I could put another um mesh in there, and that'll probably feed out here. So, anyway, so I then quickly Googled uh uh getting another one anyway. Google have just updated all of their uh uh meshes uh to this new system, and it's not backward compatible, so I you know I can't buy a new one to just jump in and add-on. So there's some that's like oh and uh you you can obviously get second-hand ones, but they're I've I'm a bit of a cyber geek and I listen to a lot of podcasts on um the the um some of the issues that have been happening with hardware, etc. So I'm very nervous on that because if you get if someone had some malware or dodgy um one of them, you can infiltrate your uh network. Anyway, so I thought, well, right.

SPEAKER_05

What sort of neighbours have you got?

SPEAKER_02

Well, no, no, it's not even that, it's just you know anyone can you know from outside as well. Um, so I then chat GPT, right? I wanna this is what I've got, and this is what I'd like to know. Something that's future proof, uh, and it's you know, blah blah. So then it put me down this rabbit hole, uh, as it does, and I sat there and went, yeah, and it was really it was scratching my geek off. I was just like, oh, liking this. So uh I say we put together a plan as if ChatGPT is a a second person, but anyway, it suggested a plan on how I was gonna come across and uh get across this. So I went, yeah, okay, right, let's uh let's get so and it's staged because I've got the styling arrival at some stage, anyway. So an ideal opportunity to move some stuff around.

SPEAKER_05

Uh have you had uh an email to say it's on its way?

SPEAKER_02

It hasn't actually, yeah. It's been delivered this time and uh it's been dispatched, yeah. Although annoyingly, I was just like, yeah, it should arrive on the 28th of May, Thursday, 28th of May. And I went, It's Friday. Uh anyway, uh different story that one. Uh so I kind of got there and went, right, cool. So yeah, I um ended up getting this. I mean, this is boring for listeners, sorry. Unless you know any, I mean, if our golf chat isn't boring enough, we're on a new level of boringness here. Uh, I make no apologies. Um, and uh so Unify is a uh um it's quite big in the um networking arena, it does um uh companies, uh businesses, etc. But you can get a smaller style um for your house. Um and it's something we'll have a look at when I'm at your place because I know you've got an Ethernet network there, and uh I'll uh um um I'll have a look at that. Anyway, so this um uh cloud sweep uh uh cloud um gateway uh plugs in. So I sat there, it arrived, uh cool. So I'm sat there going, right, plug it in there. And it just I I've done minimal research, so I thought, plug it and I'll stick it straight in. So forget the BT uh uh box, it's going straight in. So DSL, like the box on the wall, straight into this, it's not working. And I've got Ted screaming, What's happening to the internet? Uh how are you gonna be? I was like, Yeah, I tell everybody yeah. Anyway, it's like no internet. I was just like uh and of course you can't that charge giant GPT because I'm now lost the freaking internet. So I'm like, damn it. So uh where's the instructions quick? I know, and then and where it's positioned, I've got the I've got um uh by the patio door, it's just this blistering sun coming into me. I'm sweating over all the doors open. I'm like, I'm in the desert here, trying to put this together. And I was like, right, so right, what happens if I plug it into the uh uh BT box then into here? Oh, it's all working, right? Okay, well, I've got the internet. So I then had an argument with the chat GPT saying, You told me this was a router. I said, No, I didn't. I said, uh this is sorry, uh you told me it was gonna work, or you need a router. Well, I thought this was a router. Uh sorry, I thought this it is a router. You need a modem. I was like, ah, right, shit. Uh so it said, so it's so gone, yeah, you've done the right thing. You need to anyway. So um put a really boring story down. I've got it working. Um, so now we've got the gateway on there, which is uh you have to see it to understand it. I'm now monitoring all of the internet that comes in and out, it's all secured down, locked down.

SPEAKER_05

So and it now you say secured down and locked down, and in in what way? So that people can't piggyback off the back of your data web.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, not as much that kind of stuff. I can see what's coming in and out. So when people when if someone starts, if you if I was to dial in your IP address, which is likely to be one, you know, uh uh 168.whate, and uh I could try and find your uh router, um, or you um then you'd get then you'd be hit by your password, obviously. But that's quite easy to get into. I could there's other ways to infiltrate the network, um, and all the stuff that's in the house, you can I can see what's coming out of the house as well. So if something was infected in the house and it's chatting to China, um then I you can literally see stuff coming and out, so I can see um where where in the world what server stuff's pinging on and all sorts of you you you're basically setting yourself up as a um command centre for when Trump visits Anna because she's been dreaming about him.

SPEAKER_05

Exactly, yes, yeah safe and secure place that he can visit.

SPEAKER_02

I told you it's a boring story, yes. Uh uh, but effectively, yeah. So now and I've yeah, so um it's it's if you're into that stuff, you'll know what I'm talking about. So now I've kind of got me gateway, I've got some access points arriving, and then blah blah blah. And then I'll be upgrading all the internet to Wi-Fi 7, or be around the house now. So that's what the fuck is Wi-Fi 7? Well, that's the latest iteration of Wi-Fi.

SPEAKER_05

Um, iPhone 16 or 17, 18.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so well, interestingly, so yeah, so uh it's using triband, yeah. So it's using the six gig spectrum as well as the uh uh 2.4 and yeah. Anyway, uh your phone, which phone have you got? Which iPhone have you got at the moment?

SPEAKER_05

iPhone 16, I think it is. Yeah, so you'll be right.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, that the all the new ones uh are on uh are on this faster. So you're fine effectively Harry would love it because it's faster. If you've got if you've got Wi-Fi 7 in your house, oh he's got Ethernet, so he's fine. But you you depending on the speed of your switches and stuff you've got in your house. So these are 2.5 gig, but anyway, I mean I'm boring myself. Um yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I still struggle with how to score uh stapleford on golf, mate. Exactly. There's no chance.

SPEAKER_02

Uh well, I'm sat there about PoEs and how your power is just like, yeah, exactly. Um it's a little, it's a it's a it's a it's a scratch that need itching, uh, you know, with my kind of geeky fine, and it's it's a little hobby going in the background of just messing around with stuff. I get it to work, great. I didn't get it to work, and then well shit, I broke it. And then I say interestingly, I you could listen to see I'm using inverted commas. I could notice that some of my traffic was going to China. I thought, what's this doing in China? What's Google chatting to China for? Um, and then so ChatGPT is actually the software engineer, is the uh engineer in this uh house. So I just took a picture. Uh what's this doing? And it went, well, how much data is going and I went this. And he went, Yeah, you're fine. It's just your it's just the heartbeat from your uh um the Google system at the moment, chatting uh to various servers around the um world on okay.

SPEAKER_05

So now you've upgraded your your um electrical side or your internet gateway. Will you will you be buying um weapons of any sort? Fizz physical defence, uh uh uh to to to to help um back up your um electronic warfare defence.

SPEAKER_02

Interestingly, so I was sat uh uh having a busy uh work today chatting about 3D printers, so I could be I could be I could be making they are cheap. What you could they are you know they're not expensive at all, so uh I was sadly giving it all don't they use quite a lot of uh electricity?

SPEAKER_05

Or is that or is that no, no, that's that mining, isn't it?

SPEAKER_02

Bloody yeah, yeah, bit mining. Uh yeah, um no, so um so stand by on that one. I'm I'm currently um searching the internet, so there could be uh so that I may be uh just making random models of submarines or whatever you want to just sat there replacing bits of stuff that Anna's broken around the house or Teddy's broken around the house.

SPEAKER_05

Oh that's that's gonna that's gonna be in full-time use then. Um exactly.

SPEAKER_02

And and I uh yeah, so that could be quite fun. I've been sat there chatting, getting and they're they're surprisingly for an entry level, you can do a lot with them, and you just literally just whatever you want to make, you just find the file type and away you go.

SPEAKER_05

To be fair, I'm I'm quite interested in that. I'd I'd like to see a a 3D printer. Um you're right, you can you can make pretty much anything you want with them. Um really clever, yeah. Um, but you know, from baskets to to ornaments to hand guns, people are making and the different components for them. Um, you know, just chains people are making add-on bits for their cars, um, like um phone holders, all this sort of stuff. It's yeah, there's clever stuff, but um I'm a little way off that. You know, if I can concentrate on understanding golf scoring, I think I'll um recover.

SPEAKER_02

We should set that. We should, I think we might have to stick there's like we're one of your smart objectives.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah. I think I need an objective by the end of the summer. I'd like to achieve, I'd like to progress somewhere. Well, your hand cap's coming down, so you've got to understand Stableford. So uh so we went we got on a Friday, and so we normally have a beer on the six green slash seventh tea in between the two. Uh uh, and we'll have a chat and put the world to right. And Tim sat down and went, Oh, yeah, my last scorecard, I had this, and what's the stroke index on that last hole? And uh he he went on and on and on about yeah, that's seven, that gives us two. Uh that's uh so that was a par, and you get two shots on that, so that'll be plus. And I'm like, mate, I'm out. I just you've lost me.

SPEAKER_02

Just it really isn't difficult though. I don't know why you can't understand it. I mean, it'd be really easy for you, I suppose. If your handicap came down to 18, you know you get a shot hole. Yeah, so you know that each one, regardless of the stroke index, you get one shot. So um a par with your handicap is two points. It's not it's it really isn't difficult.

SPEAKER_03

Just count up how many shots you hit, and then you're gonna have to do that.

SPEAKER_02

So handicap 28, so you get a shot, you get two, so you get one shot on so you get two shots. Yeah, so twenty point six, so twenty-nine, that's gonna make it slightly different. So that's uh so it's a roundabout for 18. Well, yeah, you do make it difficult because you only do nine hours, but uh I just let the uh the app do it for me and it'll tell me how many points I've got. Just uh whack it on there.

SPEAKER_05

Just somebody somebody else will do it for me. And eventually I think I think by the end of the day.

SPEAKER_02

You didn't put a card in. You're straight away giving people uh neat shit for not putting a card in.

SPEAKER_05

My last my last game um I didn't put a card in yesterday or today, but the last game on Wednesday uh uh 21 points, stable foot points.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so absolutely bandit for nine holes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So a handicap is uh 18. So if you're playing the handicap, you'd be on 18. So 36 points is would be your handicap. So 18, so yeah, 20, so 21, straight away you're under uh um uh so you'd be yeah, getting cut.

SPEAKER_05

The app doesn't lie. Uh no, no, no.

SPEAKER_02

Don't get wrong, yeah. And then one what you're playing. 22 points the day before that, Christmas honestly, absolute bandit.

SPEAKER_05

So uh I I shall refrain from putting any cards in until you arrive.

SPEAKER_02

Don't don't you start doing that? I need I need to start getting uh access to English golf to see them get uh get in there because if they're I can't believe they don't cross over that there's no no and it's the world handicap, you know, with a name, the world handicapped system. You'd like to think that they would you know who's in it.

SPEAKER_03

I went to get Harry um registered on there and then they said, Oh, you need a your membership uh from the club. So I emailed the club and they said, Oh, you need to pay um we don't charge, but you need to pay us £27, which we have to pay to register.

SPEAKER_05

And I was like, But surely it's your club membership number that you pay for here. Um but the juniors they obviously they they take the money, but they don't have a membership number.

SPEAKER_02

They don't charge them as much though, do they?

SPEAKER_05

No, they don't, no, but they don't register them for England gold. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So it's funny. You aren't right there. I mean a junior's a junior, so why why don't they anyway?

SPEAKER_05

I I I said to them, yeah, we'll hang fire till uh till till next year until it's a bit better. Because their excuse was most four teens and under don't keep the hold of their score. I was like, well, okay, but I'm gonna do it here.

SPEAKER_02

Well you're in competitions. They've got all the a lot of the golf courses here. As in kind of uh uh black, gold, in fact, five, yeah. So you've got black championship, but you've got gold, which is the whites, uh um, yellows, reds, uh, depending on your hand gap or your gender, if that's your way you want to play, and then you've got blues, which is the um uh juniors, and they have a shorter course for those guys.

SPEAKER_05

Um we don't have that. Don't have it. But uh I'll I'll maybe mention I think June is when they redo their um application, so maybe from June onwards I'll get them. I want to be careful though, he's gonna he's he's already out driving me on some of the holes as well. Nice, yeah. Yeah, to be fair to him, he's doing he's he's loving it.

SPEAKER_02

So see, I'd be fully supporting that. I what see what you need to be doing is giving him your um an uh uh sire mate of mine. He all he'd do is uh uh it's like, oh I need a new driver that okay. He buys himself a new driver and then it it trickles down.

SPEAKER_05

So maybe now what what I might be able to um to uh put out there is uh Uncle Lily will make you a golf club uh with his new printer.

SPEAKER_02

I'll tell you what, I'd be yeah, I'd um yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Um isn't Bryson DeChambeau playing with golf clubs.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he doesn't he's he's he's probably got you know when I said 3D Peter's a uh free 3D printers are cheap, that's all relative. And the one that he's using, uh it's probably uh uh carbon fibre he's using as opposed to uh plastic, but uh well maybe something golf related, I'm sure you can make with the printer. Yes, definitely. I will be right. It's gotta be beer o'clock now.

SPEAKER_05

Um yeah, it's that time. Have I got a um my cooking night tonight? So we're having a Thai takeaway. Uh nice, which is lovely. I made lunch today at Tresco as well, which is great.

SPEAKER_02

Um I'm I'm making lunch tomorrow at the uh uh lovely restaurant in uh town tomorrow. Uh very nice indeed. Yes. Um posh lunch, is it? Posh, proper posh, yeah. The uh I've put the name of the restaurant now.

SPEAKER_05

It's uh uh you won't be turning up in uh flip-flops and uh socks and sandals.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, not there, no. Um 150 pound uh voucher I've got one. Um and that'll I reckon that'll just probably just about cover lunch. Uh um minus booze, so uh we shall see. Yeah, I know. Yeah, but yeah, hey.

SPEAKER_04

Is this in set?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so Orin. Uh yeah, that's it should be good.

SPEAKER_05

What um I've got you as uh talk about then, but uh uh well I'll wait and see what the reviews are like for Orin and uh see if it's somewhere we can visit when we're up at uh Christmas as well. It's still looking like we're on the cards for that, hopefully.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, it is, yeah. Yeah, I'm uh I've just uh cleared my uh candidar in fact to make sure I've got the the whole week off now um before and uh to make sure that's all good. So yes, anyway, right, I should love to leave you our boy. Um and uh yes, have a great week and uh back to work for you, so uh enjoy.

SPEAKER_05

Weather's gonna turn, which is great. I'm delighted at that.

SPEAKER_02

So um enjoy enjoy your lunch and have a good week. And you, buddy. Take care. Bye.
