Lee and Dale catch up this week as preparations for the Islands gig weekend are being finalised with a pub being set up at the harbour. Lee has seen his miracle recovery care plan work with Anna now back in action in the garden as Lee watches on. Lee reminisces about missing the entire match of Army v Navy rugby game as he prepares for a visit to Twickenham as a responsible adult! Dale tells Lee that his tv recommendations are no longer required but he does agree that a Ted Lasso rerun is on the cards. Lawnmowers, golf, bbq ribs, hangovers and patio laying are all discussed in this weeks catch-up.
Welcome to Highlands to Islands. I'm Lee, chatting to you from the Highlands.
SPEAKER_00And I'm Dale, living life here on the Isles of Scilly.
SPEAKER_02Each week we'll swap stories from the Highlands to the Islands, local news, DIY disasters, barbecue bragging, goal frustration, and all weird and wonderful stuff that fills our weeks.
SPEAKER_00Basically, it's two brothers-in-laws having a laugh, trying to one-up each other, and bringing you along for the ride.
SPEAKER_02So, grab a cupper or a pint. And let's jump into today's episode. Dell, what's been happening on the docks this week?
SPEAKER_00All go on the docks this week. Uh busy week back at work, uh, which is busy enough, just being at work, but uh cruise ships, freight ships, landing crafts, inter island launches, uh uh passenger boat or tenders, uh the the tripper boats, fishing boats. Um yeah, and and lots of people launching their boats as well, um in ready for the season ahead, and also uh prep for gig weekend, um which is when is that? Next weekend. Um so this is the the the lull. It's not a lull at all, it's the frantic trying to finish everything and in time for um the event to kick off on Friday, that bank holiday weekend, the Friday, Saturday, Sunday of uh rowing and I think it's just rowing and drinking basically, uh, and and some singing thrown in there. Um I think somebody mentioned it once as it's the weekend where everybody tries to outcornish each other, you know. I'm more Cornish than you are that sort of thing. Um, but yeah, no, quite an enjoyable week this week. Uh um it's uh uh lots going on, lots of variety, which is always good, never a dull moment. Um we're a cruise ship in. Um I I drove the uh pilot boat for the departure and uh I nearly managed to roll it, uh, which I thought was fantastically impressive. Um uh nearly got people's feet wet, got the gunnels down to the waterline, which uh which um quickened the old heartbeat for it for a minute, but uh um that was quite good fun. Um that prompted some additional pilot boat training for us all, making sure we were all um aware of what the trim tabs do or don't do in certain modes. Um and we did some anchoring practice on the pilot boat as well. That was quite good and interesting.
SPEAKER_02Um so you're happy that you uh um understand what was the uh uh cause of uh yeah totally.
SPEAKER_00Um and I I I put my hands up as a sort of human human error slash um it was quite a challenge in conditions. Um the the the trim tabs hadn't uh uh gone back to generally they set them up about 20% when we put them in manual. Um as I took them out of auto, they didn't go to 20%, and I thought they did.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00But they they weren't, they were they were deployed it basically meant that we were a bit nose down, which was difficult to maintain station. And then using a bit of engines back and forth to try and we got the pilot on safely, and he was he was walking down the deck, but the boat sort of dug itself in the the beak which is on the front of it, it sort of the boat will go where the beak is pointing, and the beak was pointed towards the ship, so it wanted to carry on doing that and and try and do a roly-pulley.
SPEAKER_02Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_00All right, and then we went over and we lost the engines, the the sensors on it are really sensitive because we found that out because as we healed over to starboard, we lost suction. We didn't lose suction. There's a pressure sensor on these on the intakes, the seawater intakes. And after uh twice alarming us low pressure, it shut itself off to protect the engine, which didn't help matters because it meant that we had the port engine turning us even further in towards the boat. So so we lost the engine, but managed to skillfully recover um the position and and and uh got us back out into calm water and away from the ship. Started the engine up and and went back for not quite tea and medals, but um a review of what the hell happened there.
SPEAKER_02But uh lessons identified, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I uh it was great. Lessons identified, it was a fantastic uh opportunity for us all to um learn how quickly that happened and how it happened and why it happened and how we correct it. So uh in a roundabout way, I'm quite glad it happened, but at the same time, it was it was spicy enough that I could have done without it.
SPEAKER_02Everybody can do it, but yeah, but it's better like to say, uh, no one got injured and it's an opportunity now. Uh and uh to learn from it, so that's good.
SPEAKER_00I I did laugh because I said to the guys at the end of the week, well, basically the pressure's on you now, because if you do it again, we've had the training. Oh, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02I mean, that's it, exactly. Yeah, first person that makes a mistake, uh human error. Fair days. That's uh first person to do that, the rest of you not. Uh yeah, standing.
SPEAKER_00But um, but no, uh aside of that, um down in the harbour, what else is happening? The the mermaid pub is moving into the I saw that, yeah. To on the key in the key restaurant space, which um yeah it's gonna cause you a bit of uh trouble, I reckon.
SPEAKER_01Just a bit.
SPEAKER_02It was nice. It was a very middle class restaurant. There was no hassle at all as neighbours, but I reckon making it a bit rowdy uh could be fun. Uh it could be another challenge, an opportunity, shall we say?
SPEAKER_00Another learning opportunity, perhaps.
SPEAKER_02Oh god, I've just realized that. Now I said that. Sorry, I'm I'm appreciating uh drunken people that close to this city. I mean, oh god. Did you ever did you were you ever guns based?
SPEAKER_00Do you have a Plymouth paste? I I spent a lot of time in Plymouth, so yeah. Bobkin? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. And I, you know, bank colony weekends. I mean, I I'm not gonna lie to you. I've I've spent many a bank colony weekend down there, and uh yeah, I may have got wet once or twice. So uh uh alcohol, good weather, and the sea. Oh my god. Good luck on that one, Shippers.
SPEAKER_00So I I we we we we've been given all all the standard assurances, you know, of measures that will be enforced. And and to be fair, I mean the the weekend itself, because you if you mention what it's like to anybody in the mainland, um, they'd have a heart attack generally with with so many people crammed into small space and all hitting the pub. But I will say, trouble-wise, in terms of um fighting and that sort of thing, it's it's not that event at all. It is no, of course it's not.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I'd be surprised. I've I think you'd be surprised. Yeah, I mean, I mean, there's probably a cow of people when you as soon as you say that, they likely read a Daily Mail, by the way, uh, that think that alcoholic, etc., all sit there and all gets rowed here. I mean, that's gonna be freaking epic. I mean, one, it's great for the pub mermaid, definitely somewhere to start uh boozing. Uh most you know, probably the most profitable weekend of the year. Oh, that's true. They need they definitely need that. So good luck to them for getting it. And you know what, like you say, hey, get as drunk as you want, you know. Hey, you know, there's there's hardly any other trouble, so crack on it be a break off.
SPEAKER_00There's never any trouble. I think there is the point though, it's it's the the the last of the night, it's the it's the potential for things post pub. So as they try and get their way off a key, um and that's that's the concern, and and the the the the usual, you know, I'll just leave this bottle here, I'll someone's thrown up there.
SPEAKER_02I mean that's gonna happen, I think you're right. And you know what? Yeah, I mean, long as you know, long as it's yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean like it's gonna happen. I mean, you know, the pub, rightly so, will give you the assurances, but they can't now need to state every single human being that walks outside that pub. They just probably need it, they just need someone uh there early in the morning to clear up uh after all.
SPEAKER_00Because uh that'll that'll be us.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, that's that's the worry bit, yeah. That's the thing that they want, but uh no.
SPEAKER_00Uh I'm I'm sure it'll be fine. And and um well, the in a couple of weeks' time we'll chat about it. I'll let you know how how it went. But um it will be epic, and the weather, I don't want to put the kiss of death on it, but the weather is looking good for the oh great, it needs that, yeah. Yeah, so I and I a good good event. I mean, the islands have been a bit down in the dump spot. The storms of the weather.
SPEAKER_02They've got a bloody good balcony there.
SPEAKER_00Uh downside, balcony's out of bounds.
SPEAKER_02Ah, mate, whose rule is that? Ah, all day drinking in the sun at the balcony. I mean, it doesn't get much better than that. Yeah, I mean, uh mitigation plastic glasses, I say, I'm no.
SPEAKER_00Oh man, that's that that is what they're using as well, plastic glasses throughout. So, um, no, I think they've been told that the balcony is not available. Um I mean, don't get it wrong. Somebody said it's it's they've been told it's not it's not available because it's not structurally safe.
SPEAKER_02I I was just about to say that. I reckon no, do you know what? I reckon it probably, you know, because you think people having dinner versus if it's sunny outside, let's be honest, that balcony is gonna be rammed. Yeah, as if hundreds of people you're gonna fill it.
SPEAKER_00It's I I think it's absolutely fine. It's it's the the the the decking and the bits of timbers that the decking sit on, I think, are the bits that are iffy. Not the balcony. The balcony is bomb-proof. I mean, it's it's it's a metal frame, you know. It's the same balcony we've got outside my office, um, and above the ticket office. Um you can have as many people there as you want, but I think their concern is more the the the the the joists that the um the the the the decking itself is sitting on is that would probably give way.
SPEAKER_02But um I mean I must admit I'd be uh if I was a mermaid, I'd be getting a structural engineer right there to challenge that. Get some maps in there, because I mean don't get me wrong, I mean if the sun's out, you know, I'm looking outside now. What what better place to go drinking is there gonna be there? A nice sundown. And it's pretty, it's pretty out the way as well. You know, it's not as if you've got housing, so it's quite good for that. You know, it does put it. Um I mean, don't get it wrong, it's not it'd be an absolute frickin' mare if you've got Salonian and whatnot coming back in the wrong side and all that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_00But uh that that is the thing. So over the weekend we're still operational. The the Gry will be in Friday night, offloading Saturday. Yeah, I mean that's good. Yeah, the Salonian will be in on Saturday.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, and then on the Sunday, the key, the outer birth, if you like, that's open up to the public from the Sunday onwards. So um wait, and right round the back, there's a lot of freight being moved, so there's nobody allowed round the back. But it's just and if it is the all-day drinkers, I don't know what their opening times are. It's it's more the concern of the people getting in the way of things whilst people are still working there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, um, yeah, it's a challenge, a bit of challenge, isn't it? But I need somewhere to, I mean, certainly the mermaid needs somewhere to kind of operate to try and uh totally, yeah, and and challenge accepted, shall we say?
SPEAKER_00It just means yeah, uh uh we we focus our minds a little bit more over the weekend, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it'll be you're on you're taking leave this weekend and next weekend, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um absolutely, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Phone is off, whatever. If I can't see a fire, focus if you can't see a fire, winner winner chicken dinner. Happy days. Um I forgot to tell you, of course, I'm uh yeah, next weekend. I'm glad you said the weather's good because uh guess I'm off to next weekend.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you is that did you say you're off rugby navy? Uh Army Navy.
SPEAKER_02The Army Navy, yeah, next weekend. So I'm flying down. So talking there, you are saying, Oh, you know, some people have you like, mate, have you ever been to the Armin? If you want somewhere that's full of drunken people, I mean what's Twickenham's what 100,000? I think it'll be they don't sell out the top tier. So there's still going to be a good 60,000 people there, plus everyone else around there. So yeah, and it's not never normally any trouble there either.
SPEAKER_00So it's just uh I I'm surprised at that army v navy because as you know, uh there's there's obviously a bit of um bit of banter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, banter, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean but I I'm surprised that doesn't get a bit more leery than it does, as you say, particularly because I think of late the rugby game, people have mentioned this in the in the uh uh in the in the news or the uh the the the the talk of the rugby games and it's becoming more and more leery because they're selling more and more beer, obviously. Um and people are going there and getting tanked up on you know eight, nine, ten pints in a match as they just down them as quick as they can. Um that's that's nothing new. Sorry. I I Well no, I think it's becoming more and it's more and more because everybody always saw rugby game is a very sort of you have never you've never done an army navy, have you? Not an army navy one, no, but in terms in terms of the crowds where you where you would have the crowds, the the the opposing crowds mixed together and the fans and everybody gets on relatively well. Um and uh now it's it's it's become worse than than football.
SPEAKER_02I I so isn't oh well I I should I should I should I well know it's this weekend, it's probably a bad weekend for you to go away, but you need to go right. So effectively, back in the day, just get start swinging that lantern, you'd get the bus from Plymouth. So do the math, driving from Plymouth to uh London, you'd be drinking at that time in the morning. So we're talking an all-day. I can remember now starting drinking at whatever time o'clock in the morning that is, arriving at the game, and my piece of resistance is wherever my seat was. I'm not gonna lie to you, I can't remember. I just fell asleep for the whole of the game. Woke up, I was sick somewhere, I'm sure, many a time, and then managed to get the bus, get the bus back, and it drops you off into uh Plymouth, got off at Union Street, and then went down in Union Street. I'm half sobered up again to go out in there. It is absolute carnage. It's it's class. It is like, I mean, don't get me wrong, that was in my younger days. I'm post 50 now, so that there'll be a a very different uh approach to the uh uh the all-day drinking.
SPEAKER_00But yes, the the other that was last year described, so this year it would be slightly, slightly different.
SPEAKER_02No, I could never do that. That I mean I'm I'm a I'm a two-day hangover now with just a couple of glasses of wine of an evening, let alone uh it's a bang goddamn, so I'll I'll fly back Sunday uh and I'll be taking Monday off as well uh to recover. But yeah, so uh all right, I forgot uh the gig weekend is the same weekend as the um uh yeah, it is a pony and yeah, biggest weekend of the year.
SPEAKER_00So but yeah, if the weather is good, all the better. It makes it a lot easier. Um there's there's there's a I mean but the the the island's double in size in terms of population, and people here everywhere is full. Everyone is and that's the joyous thing, is that everyone's out there is no trouble with it. Everyone's out to have a good time, and there's lots of friendships that have been built over decades of of this event happening, uh and even other Rowan events, anyway. So it will be good, it'll be nice to see a lot of um familiar faces over um it was um uh quite a few years back though. There was um uh Jordan Drage, um, he's he doesn't live here anymore, but he he came, he said, Oh, but he was pissed up in the street, and somebody's got a video, a great video, it comes out on Facebook every now and again of Jordan with a megaphone pissed up outside the bishop and wolf uh saying, Welcome everybody to the camel toe championships. So many women in lycra who shouldn't be in lycra.
SPEAKER_02Very brave man.
SPEAKER_00I have very much well, he he'd add a few, so it's it's absolutely hilarious video. But I'll I'll try and find it and send it to you at some point. But uh um yeah, that is cool.
SPEAKER_02So that's the point that's the big week then, so everyone building up for that. It's the master's week of the uh equivalent uh for the silly uh for silly hours, I'm sure. Yeah, it's gig weekend weekend, so yeah, cool. Oh um, did you get to watch Full Swing at all? Have you watched that?
SPEAKER_00No, I've I've had very little time in front of the TV. Um we we did. Did I tell you this? We did watch your recommendation for 101. Um well, as as Fran mentioned, we won't be asking Lee Elliott for another recommendation.
SPEAKER_02I mean that's a given, mate. I mean, to be honest, I mean to we've you know, it wasn't that bad. It it it wasn't that bad, no. No, no, I did I I did I I'm not saying it's gonna you know win Oscars, but it was watchable.
SPEAKER_00It won't, it won't win Oscars. Um it's watchable, it it's a long film, though.
SPEAKER_02It did get a little, yeah, it's not that bad.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we watched it over two separate nights. That's um yeah, yeah. Okay, we what I can't remember what we watched last night, but it was much better than what you're recommending. Because I said to Fran at one point, shall we call Lee? She said, Absolutely not.
SPEAKER_02Um I say what we're on at the moment. We're we're literally on two separate. So Anna's still trying to complete ER. So she's in between uh uh my obviously incredible uh nursing when I'm not at home. She's watching, she's watching uh ER. She's doing her best to complete it. So I think she's really kind of like any moment she can. So we've now given up trying to find something together. So she's watching that, and I'm re-watching Ted L Ted Lasso, which I forgot how much I fucking love Ted Lasso.
SPEAKER_00I really love Ted Lasso. And do you know what? I I I have to put my hands up. See, I never watched it all the way through to series three or four or whatever it was. I know, I know. So I I might I might join you then. I might go back and see.
SPEAKER_02I've just literally completed season one. Um and I'll be I'll be cracking on to season two this evening, I reckon. Uh with or without Anna watching the same TV as us. Uh, but uh um how is the patient? Uh well she's about she's I can hear the lawn mower on and she's out mowing. So uh uh she went to saw the physio this week and the physio was uh extremely impressed. I'm not sure Anna gave me enough uh uh kudos, really, because you know, uh for a full recovery, really. I don't know if she kind of like, oh, it's okay, my husband's been looking after me. That's why I'm so I think she seems to think it's just down to her. But uh has she been held as a medical miracle? Well, yeah, I think so. She's out there, there's no limp, there's no nothing.
SPEAKER_00So uh definitely down to re definitely down to the rehab, mate.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. I think down to the rehab, yeah. Sat around the yeah, the the the need to survive with me nursing you. That's what it's come down to.
SPEAKER_00I think you should open up the uh Lee Elliott nursing home for post-operative um knee knees, hips, elbows, shoulders, whatever. Um almost with a guarantee, you know, uh three weeks and you'll be you know training for the Olympics again.
SPEAKER_02Uh yes. I d did you uh she's out on the new Lawmer. Did we know did I tell you about uh electric law mower?
SPEAKER_00No, it's not a sit-on, right?
SPEAKER_02It's not no, because I wouldn't I wouldn't ban her from that. I'd be on that. I'd be doing the podcast from that if we had a sit on. Uh but no, it's actually quite a nice uh um um well you see electric one.
SPEAKER_00Is it a a remote control one?
SPEAKER_02No, no, not that good. Uh no, it's the uh battery operator. Sorry, you're right, yeah. Battery one. So she didn't like we were gonna get I kind of wanted petrol, but she was like, Well, I do most of the gardening to screw you, and uh uh two, uh she wouldn't be able to start it. Um that's what she said. That wasn't me, anyway. And then and then three i4, the maintenance on that is gonna be she'd done none on the last one, so I you know, me expecting her to maintain the petrol. Uh so we uh come to a uh balance which was uh uh she absolutely destroyed the uh the previous one. Uh so uh BQ brand uh electric uh lawn man, it's it's great. What's the metal very impressed of it? Took it out for a spin.
SPEAKER_00Have you bought uh two batteries for it?
SPEAKER_02No, the one battery, huge battery, and it's a it's like a double double sized battery, does front and back with spare left over. So uh the batteries are pretty expensive for those things.
SPEAKER_00So uh I would have bought a petrol lawnmower just so that Anna couldn't start it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no. Well no, she would have made me get the the button start one, which adds another 200 quid uh uh when you when you look at those, so you know. Um yeah, so we yeah, so she's out there uh taking that for a spin. It's another glorious sunny day.
SPEAKER_00All part of the rehab, is it?
SPEAKER_02Exactly. Moving, it's all about moving. Uh when we get placements.
SPEAKER_00More my lawn, weed the uh flower beds, yeah. Exactly. Yeah, fill the bird feeders, all this exercise.
SPEAKER_02Exercise, exactly that. Yes.
SPEAKER_00There'll be some science behind it somewhere. Oh, cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there is some. Oh, there is actually, I think there is, but they do say keep moving, yeah. Uh, what's the weather like there anyway? Have you still got the sunshine there?
SPEAKER_00Glorious, mate. I'm absolutely burnt burnt to a crisp.
SPEAKER_02Um I didn't take much for you, mate.
SPEAKER_00No, it's a 20 minutes. No, I've been out. Um actually uh I felt I felt the heat most of the out watering the lawn again. So we've got the lawn completed, uh and all the time.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, of course you had to f up, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Tarif is down. Um it looks awesome. It looks um, there's a long long way still to go, but I've been uh watering that religiously every night. Um and it takes me just over an hour to to water it properly. And you've not got a finger magic yet, uh no. I we did I to be fair, I did go to the local shop. Uh cool. No, no, we're not we're not having that. Um uh so I'm using Pete's hose from next door with a sprinkler attachment on it, but just walking up and down. But yeah, we've got the lawn down uh and the the patio or the patio as we call it.
SPEAKER_01Does it look nice?
SPEAKER_00Uh is coming on a treat. Uh Charlie has done a cracking job with that. Um working his way down. He's just under the kitchen windows now. He's got cleared out all the bits by the side of the garage. That's next week's job. Laying the patio down there. And hopefully next week at some point we'll be concreting the the driveway down the side of the house. Oh nice. They've got one of those um concrete mixer um Hoover machines. You know the the lorries.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00One of those one of those on the island here. So we're gonna use that. And um that should be awesome. I'll I'll look fun. I'll I'll put some pictures up on that.
SPEAKER_02But no, this week uh Yeah, that's that's that's how they did our uh uh the patio thing. You just cut you just reverse it around the back and then just uh did you raise it? He must have reversed it all the way in, yeah. Wasn't the yeah, and then just piped it in. Yeah, it's just I think it's just as easy as like when you try and buy it, because if you buy it, if you when you buy it, if you get the wrong mixture right, it's like, well, you paid for it, where's it going, mate? As the mate I might have bought a load of ready mixed stuff come up the wagon, and he just went to like, well, I don't know. He just literally just uh lucky had a quite big garden, it was just like concrete in any post that was around, it was like pouring ready-made concrete in it uh to get his money's worth cheap bastard. Um yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, we got uh the lawn. Uh so the weather is uh is awesome. I was out watering the lawn, I was in the the bits in the shade um because of conscious that not to water the bits in the sunlight because it's supposed to be a bit. So uh I was doing that, but I was out there for about an hour uh and I could feel the heat and the sun. We've been out working in the garden all day, actually. We've now got a flower border at both ends of the lawn. Uh we've got a lot of um succulents uh that are gonna be that have been put in by the granite wall and at the back fence. Uh Will the The Will Garrett, the uh 50-year-old um King William, has delivered uh some Agapanthers. So we've got some blues and whites, and friends uh planted them along the back fence. Um I think he's giving us like 40 of them. We got loads. Um we they're all in. Uh I've raked oh maybe it's just it was just like a all morning, just manually labour. So I'm used to sitting at my desk and and worrying about paper cuts, but it was more physical outside, um, moving bags of cement, moving bags of sand, uh, wheelbarrow, moving granite again, just granite lumps and blocks. Um just positioning them around the corner and ready to move them somewhere else next week.
SPEAKER_02Um be proud of you.
SPEAKER_00Uh mate, my my my rake action is uh a sight to behold. Uh I am on fire with a rake, and I I agree with Maries and and Fran as well. It's that you can you can do everything with a rake. You can make such a huge difference on a on a patch of land. Just uh you just gotta keep going.
SPEAKER_02Uh is tiring the um have you have you got a uh flower bed in where the where the patio joins the turf for that kind of upslope bit there? I was looking at some of the photos and uh I was like, all right, we have to put a flower bed in there.
SPEAKER_00No, so where the patio joins the turf. Um no, there's gonna be some steps. Is that down by the garage door?
SPEAKER_02Um just a whole border between patio to turf.
SPEAKER_00There looked like there was uh which there is like a slope of earth that's gonna be a granite wall all going up there.
SPEAKER_02Oh, is it okay? Cool.
SPEAKER_00Right. So I thought I'd leave that for you to do when you're here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because you you know my policy on DIY in my own house. In my own house. So when I'm on holiday where I'm literally doing diddly squat about apart from golf and all day drinking, I'll have loads of time for uh uh granite building. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I mean you got a bench out of me last time, but that was that was you know, I'm still recovering from that myself.
SPEAKER_00We did that, and don't forget the uh the mezzanine floor, we did the beams, the the the the uh infill bits for the beams as well.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly, yeah. Yeah, and pissed off your neighbours. Uh anyway, let's say about that.
SPEAKER_00Uh but we've got um, yeah, that's gonna be a granite wall up there. So that that'll all be done by the time you get here. Um and there'll be so there'll be uh Agapanthers and and various other things.
SPEAKER_02Well, all I'm hearing is that the uh the more and more which is good to hear, there'll there'll be just boats, it'll be no time for uh DIY because there'll be boating, golfing, and uh um that kind of stuff. So good.
SPEAKER_00Might might not be boating. I I think we're gonna struggle to get the boat in the water this year. Uh we will. Well, just uh when is it you arrive?
SPEAKER_02Summer.
SPEAKER_00No, when? What month?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. It should be in before then. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna be the first. I don't want to be the first person now on it.
SPEAKER_00I know you know um yeah, we're we'd we're we're the house is is is taking all the energy really and the money. Um that's the that's the focus. But uh I think is it end of July here? Yeah, end of July, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'll just uh uh just sit in the game. If it's the boat's not in, don't worry, I'll just uh sit in the patio and play golf.
SPEAKER_00Um well we'll we'll do some putting practice on the lawn.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh, yeah, well it's looking good.
SPEAKER_00Um but uh no, hopefully we should have we should have the boat and Franz mentioned that today, actually. About you know, we should start to st by the time June gets around here, we should be starting to think to get the boat in the water. So um that's the plan. Um but yeah, uh what else have we done this week? Um uh the driveway clear. Well basically as I say, moving everything from one place to another. Um back break and work my back hurts. Not as much my knees though, my my knees they crunch just standing up. They they make some weird noises, just uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02I walk yeah, I'd um golf yesterday and my knees started to uh hurt a little bit. I was like, ooh, like proper, ooh, I've not got any painkillers kind of pain. Um, but it's obviously just a bit just a bit of oil needed because uh I didn't feel it later on. Uh well came back with a 40 points uh absolute hammered, yeah. So that's nice, yeah. On the uh on the very very hard on the Murray old course, which is uh uh renowned for eating my golf ball. So very nice.
SPEAKER_00I had a shocker with uh Tim uh yesterday. We well, we've decided now that because we play every Friday, we'll try and play. Um we never keep score, and it's all it's very loose, very loose with the rules. Yeah, just just don't worry, mate, pick it up. Yeah, just just chuck one down there, and that's fine. Um, followed by a couple of beers on the sixth green, um, and then a beer in the clubhouse afterwards. But so this week was the first time like, no, we're gonna keep score now. We're gonna put a card in every time. Yeah, you're putting cards in as well, yeah? On the app. So we we we're doing that now. And uh I did one last Sunday with with Harry, put a card in, and um put one in yesterday with Tim. Um and I thought, bugger it. I mean, it's embarrassing enough our handicap, but at least people see here's the evidence with our cards. Yeah, no, exactly.
SPEAKER_02We had we had the same uh chat around here, you know what I mean? You just gotta kind of uh uh yeah, embrace it and go, that is it.
SPEAKER_00I'm sticking with the rules, uh and of and and and I maybe suppose that's the way we should have been playing it all along, but we were getting we just wanted we'd catch up for a chat and a and a uh uh how's his week sort of thing, and then yeah wandering round smacking some golf balls. But this now we're starting to take it a little bit more serious. Uh and it's it's weirdo. So last week I put the card in on the ninth hole. I got a birdie on the on the par five, and uh that was the highlight highlight of the day for me. Uh and this week uh it took me nine shots uh on the same hole.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think I've sort of work out I played I played on midweek, Tuesday or Wednesday, and I went round in 113 absolutely back nine with I just blubbled it. I lost loads of balls, was having an absolute mare. Uh, and then uh uh Friday, uh 97, 98. So as well. Uh there's like an 18 uh um uh 18 whole different 18 uh um shot different. I was like, oh cool, happy days. You cracked it, even though it's one. Well then interesting, I I was sat there, like yeah, I did kind of sat there after mentally, you know, giving it well, yeah, done that, that worked well, that worked well. Still still give myself a bit. I I I had to giggle. I sat there, I was telling her who knew, didn't understand the word I was saying, but uh I lasered the uh distance to where yeah from where I was, and I was like, right, play this safe. It was like the hardest call, the hardest hole on the course. I knew I had two shots in my hands. I was like, it was a great drive, and I thought, right, I'll just laser the other side of there and I'll just play this over to the uh uh somewhere over that side, and I'll so I went, right, what's the distance? And I I and I was just sat there thinking, I I actually think I've put a club, I've picked so the idea was find how far it is, and then make sure I'm gonna use a club that wouldn't go that far. In between that excellent thought process, I've gone, yep, that distance, pulled out a club and then fired a ball straight into the uh the gulf from the other side. Oh god, you fucking root! Oh god I'm literally kicking myself.
SPEAKER_00Was there a club launch? Did you did you launch it?
SPEAKER_02Oh no, I I I do like there is a it's a it's a good lesson in uh golf, which is you're just not good enough to start kicking off. And it's right, you you you did you you don't practice enough, yeah. It's true, isn't it? You literally you sit there, why are you getting angry? Do you you don't practice well, you don't practice enough. Your livelihood's not uh you sit there and go, Yeah, you're right, you know.
SPEAKER_00It's a fair point. Isn't it there's there's a couple of people up by the course who get proper TV and launch clubs and stuff, and yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean some people like you know you yeah, exactly. Yeah, I mean I don't get it wrong, I can empathise with the pros, uh, you know, for someone who sits there and dedicates their life to it. So I'm not saying the babe is correct, but at least I can empathise the fact that you know, hey, you can everyone gets their little hissy fit, uh, and that you know they they work bloody hard to get there. Well, I I don't work hard enough for that. So I went, uh oh, uh oh, just like Tanton, but there's a new driving range here.
SPEAKER_00Did I uh oh no, I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, it's not new. Uh Roger's just um yeah, it was a bit of a it never looked great on the outside, but there's yeah, there's a driving range uh there. Uh but he's now invested in uh uh Top Tracer in there, so you get uh all the games and stuff, and all the like track man esque, it's another track man type thing, all the games, etc. It's great. Yeah, I've been uh uh after that awful game the other day at the start of the week. I then went there twice after work uh just to kind of uh mess around and just kind of warm up and get into the spirit of it, it's great.
SPEAKER_00I might so you get his book done at Christmas, yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_02Well, it'll be exactly that, it'll be open. Although I've got a coming plan for Christmas, I reckon. Yeah, well, I was thinking to myself, yeah, we might have to uh go and see your dad, who just so happens to live at Crudan Bay, uh, who do who do great winter rapes uh at Crew and Bay. So um if it's not gonna be windy, so we're just gonna pop down and see you know, then you know, just pop in there.
SPEAKER_00If it's not gonna be windy, that is one of the windiest places in the UK, I reckon. Yeah, yeah, you but it is a belt belter of a course.
SPEAKER_02Uh really I think in fact Fraser was talking about. I said, mate, I said, like it's it's 200 quid to get around there normally. So yeah, yeah, it was a visitor, yeah. Because the bloody the courses here, because the uh um Americans like to play really good courses, they assume that to be a good course it has to be expensive. Don't go around, Kruna Bay is a really good uh course, but so all the places that were kind of a relatively good visitors rate, because they're all good golf courses up here. Um you literally can't move for a decent golf course around here to attract the business, they just put the prices up and then the people turn up, but then uh for the rest of us more minion uh uh poor minions, you have to sit there and you're giving it what I mean. Luckily I've got reciprocals for a lot of the clutter courses up here, but yeah, so uh I may have to tap Malcolm up.
SPEAKER_00He's a he's a member of yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, in that case, we're definitely we will be tapping up to get a member, we'll get him to sign us on for a round, yeah. Um but um nah cool. Uh yeah. Um so how about um yeah, sorry, what's we're talking about about the um but the top tracer type thing is here, so yeah, we can go up there, which would be great because we'll take Harry with us and then uh you can play the games on the uh on the uh on the machine.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, we had a go at that at Glen Eagles when I was doing the uh guest guest uh uh trainer for the day uh my stint stint at Glen Eagles. Uh that was quite it was quite good fun actually, those games.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah, yeah. So uh but no, so uh all good.
SPEAKER_00Um we had uh you uh the um um um weights bench arrived. Um right and it arrived after I'd phoned up to say it hadn't arrived, so they cancelled the order, and then it arrived. It's we've had a nightmare, as I've spoken before, about the freight to and from here. Yeah, but that arrived last so last weekend was awesome. We had a really busy um spell out the front in the driveway, getting stuff cleared again, moving stuff that I probably moved yesterday again. Um, but then that arrived, and I set it all out in the garage, and it was like a that little IKEA type moment of assembling something with lots of moving parts and um washers and nuts and bolts. And um, it's absolutely brilliant. Haven't used it once. Um right, sorry, I don't really in a week, but it's only because every night there's been something else um taking our focus when I get back from work. So I'm in at work early, I'm out at work late. So the time I come back, I'm trying to think now every night last week there was something else I had to um had to do. But um this week I need to set a uh almost a like a little itinerary program and just stick to it because um it's there. We've got a couple of bits to use on it now, and I said to Harry, once a month we'll buy something to add to it. Yeah, so I've got to get done. Um especially the way my knees hurt, my back hurts. I've got to get core strength sorted out or um some sort of fitness. I can't go I I feel pain just thinking about going running. I'm desperate to go for a run, but I know that would just be disaster. Um, so and what would uh Dr. Lee recommend? Uh, or what was the recovery process?
SPEAKER_02Well, I reckon I'm I mean a lot of excuses there is what I'm hearing. Um but uh I would say you are keeping mobile, so keep it up. Uh, but uh I reckon uh all I say is uh you're worth 20 minutes uh uh uh a day, Dave. Treat yourself, uh be kind to yourself and give you that 20 minutes and just uh whatever you were meant to get, whatever Fran's got you doing, just say, No, I'm gonna spend 20 minutes on me, Fran, and just go in the wait room and uh smash out a couple of reps.
SPEAKER_00I said it before. My my arse hovers above a cushion on a sofa. It's like, oh, sitting down, you got time to rest. Can you so yeah, 20 minutes? I mean, that's like a lifetime. But uh Fran will find that instantly. And you got time for that? You got time for this? This granite boulder needs moving.
SPEAKER_02But in an offense, it that's probably the same as doing wapes anyway. If you're lifting it with a granite boat, so you know there's a reason I had three slip discs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, no, I think I think you're right, I've got to just stick to it. Um, I was tempted to go get another pair of trailers for running, thinking that's what'll sort it. It won't, it'll feel comfy, but um, I think my knees oh yeah, so when it comes to your running, you just give it up.
SPEAKER_02My advice on that is just to just get over yourself and just use the gym. Uh in your weights, your your running days are over. Uh, just a nice bit of uh keep the uh probably another round of golf a week um to keep the steps up uh and then uh keep the weights. That's what you need to be doing.
SPEAKER_00Weights, yeah. Weights that that that that Fran Fran will just say yeah, that means outside moving bags of cement. That's uh that's all you need.
SPEAKER_02I mean it's it's a round of golf is 10,000 steps.
SPEAKER_00Uh um I can do I 20,000 for me zigzag across the game. Zigzagging around the uh I tell you what, it only it is true, it's like that classic phrase, it only takes one good day, but one good shot. And I I hit yesterday the first three holes were amazing. My driving and the iron shots were I mean my putting was absolute pants, but the the the feeling you get when you hit it and it and it and it goes straight, and the distance is there and what you know it's incredible.
SPEAKER_02And and don't get me wrong, you should always celebrate your good shots. Oh, I do.
SPEAKER_00I I I would suppose yes, yeah, look at that.
SPEAKER_02Everyone see that. Who was I doing? I was doing something the uh yesterday. Oh, that was it. I exactly I sat there and I went, Oh, this is for the Masters to win the Masters. And then like we're only on the fourth hole or something. Uh yeah, and uh I putted it and I, you know, it was a good, don't get me wrong, it was a good 15-foot part. Um but I but I but I made sure I gave a missive shout and a fist pump as if I had won the uh masters, because you know what you say with you. I've you know so many shit shots. I'm like, I'm uh I'm having that.
SPEAKER_00Um I was so gutted, so gutted last week on the the the ninth grain uh which I I birdied, which is you know, as you know, it's right outside the clubhouse. Yes, it's uh not a person in sight.
SPEAKER_02Nobody so mate mate. I mean that's a good old to birdie, by the way, because that's a that's a that's a decent drive. Did you cut did you cut the corner, did you? Did you get the corner out?
SPEAKER_00I made the corner, so my second shot was straight down with a three-iron uh to just off the green. Uh third shot onto the green, a few feet from the hole, and then uh putted putted for glory in front of no one, and no one there, and no one gutted, but but eh, well, it's um I there is occasion. I even when I play with him, it's like when he nails a shot. I'm I'm jumping up and down as if it was me that said it.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, I think yeah, I think you've got to celebrate uh good shots, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So uh um, so the the whooping and jumping up and down is uh few and far between as you can imagine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, no, I'm I'm I'm the same, yeah. I mean, don't get it wrong. I mean uh golfers at our level should be cheering the uh uh um um uh bogey golf for us as good. So I sat there and that's why I had a good round yesterday. I sat there and I uh bogeyed most of the holes um on the back nine, so it was um uh great. But no, no. Um I did have something else I was gonna talk about then. I thought I did think of something. Uh oh yeah, in fact, we might uh we'll have to keep to our times today because I've uh barbecuing, I've got the ribs in the smoker.
SPEAKER_00Um have you bought your um your your uh bag barbecue bag yet?
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, no, no. Not needed, not needed when you've got the towels.
SPEAKER_00Oh wait, don't forget, don't forget, we're coming up at Christmas, so you're gonna have to hide a few towels before we arrive. Yeah, yeah. And I can go and buy some more towels.
SPEAKER_02Buy some more, yeah, because of me and the yeti. Yeah, yeah. So uh ribs have been smoking almost two hours now, so that'll be good. Uh and I'll get them into some sauce and then finish them off.
SPEAKER_00I do remember la last time you were timing something. You you you were there at I don't know, three in the morning when it finished cooking.
SPEAKER_02Don't exactly I'm panicking that that's why uh I need to well no yeah, I am panicking, I'm not gonna lie to you. I I I've so they're called 321. You're gonna see the folly on my way here, which is three hours smoking, two hours uh in the wraps in shorts, and one hour uh to crisp up. We take off. So that's that's the kind of but I I'm normally and this is where my worry is, and that's they're normally for like St. Louis style ribs and bigger ones. Um I go for the two one half. Um, so I'm hoping these are going to be the same.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and these the uh the um the rare or mini. No, no, no, trust me.
SPEAKER_02If you once for any of our barbecue listeners out there, and please, if you do listen and you do barbecue and you do tag this to catch the barbecue, please back me up here. That the 321 you end up that the they become too um they not even they're a bit even soggy than that um um uh uh fall off the bone, whereas you like a little bite on a rib, so that yeah, that that they won't be you you don't sort of um take all the meat off and chuck the bones away and then sort of slice it all up as um no the the ribs though that the you're thinking of pool pork uh pool pork, yeah, yeah. Yeah, which I haven't done yet. I do need to get myself a decent uh Boston butt cut and uh Amazon.
SPEAKER_00Here you come tonight.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's when I'd be that would be the you know six or eight hours. Uh uh we're not we're not eating uh till three in the morning session if I proposed that. So that would have to be having learnt, haven't I haven't given myself the opportunity last time? I would start first thing in the morning, um, or even the night before, and then just put them in the uh paint patent uh uh towels afterwards to keep warm and the yeti uh for 24 hours to make sure that we got them. But uh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh how um how except the ribs, how long does it take you to make these smash burgers?
SPEAKER_02Um these oh I did smash yeah yesterday. Honestly, uh uh you need to get yourself a steel insert for your uh uh uh Weber. So uh and you'll find it on Amazon, I'm sure, because that's where I've got mine from. Um it's no time at all. Literally, um Anna gets it's gotta be fatty uh mints, so 20% mints, uh uh steak mints. Um and then roll them in a ball, put some mints.
SPEAKER_00Is that 20% mince meat, 80% fat?
SPEAKER_02No, no, it's 20% fat now. Um but uh uh so it's gotta be a fat don't get no don't get lean mints, is probably what we're saying there. Um and then yeah, just to get the uh griddle up and on max. Um um and then it's literally smoking. I I put oil on top of the S and I I suddenly realised I was just like because it you know, you know you the the metal's hot and I was just like I might I might literally I might just put in fuel onto this gas barbecue mode because I put it on there and I could see it smoke and I went this could combust at any stage so I kind of wiped it down just to you know you give it a nice little clean and it go uh when you learning from your mistakes well no it's it didn't well I didn't because I got away with it uh so I'll do it again um but I did turn it down a little bit and then uh I basically sit there when it's all ready and then Anna says well the chips are almost done and then I've got the like six balls and then you just bang whack them on there and then squash them down. Have you got one of those um those um sort of um obviously yes of course um but it look like push up sort of uh yeah hand example good description yeah that it's exactly that yeah so one of those a bit of bacon parchment paper squash down and then you just leave it there and then when you think it's done you wait some more uh and then you see the edges crisp up a little bit and then you put uh flip it and then put your uh it's got to be the cheapest cheese plastic cheese get plastic cheese plastic cheese on there and then um and then once that's all melted uh well it never melts properly it just turns into plastic and just spreads didn't it with black smoke black smoke coming off it and then you just uh stick them on a tin foil and then walk inside and Anna's already uh pre-prepared it she made some homemade rolls as well which is even better oh well done Anna and that was literally all prepped um uh she done all the work and then I take the glory of uh my lovely burgers but actually she's done everything else but uh I think as you say that that that is the uh the centrepiece the uh piece of resistance I bring the meat that's all I'm gonna say boom um yeah the smash burgers from yesterday ribs tonight in fact I was told we were doing tonight as well uh chicken wings as well um in the air fryer in the air fryer I was chatting to my uh uh colleague at work who's a bit of a barbecue kind of uh uh expert and he's very much this uh uh he said you'll see people doing chicken wings in uh barbecues etc etc he said you all they're all trying to use uh to to get to the perfect temperature I said if you use the right tool you can't go wrong and the right tool is a frickin' air fryer uh it's basically a microwave isn't it yeah in nine minutes that's gonna take us to get those chicken wings done I've got a recipe from online of okay as as uh sugary spicy um rub and then you stick them in there nine minutes done so uh yeah what temp what size air fryer have you got um I only ask is it's that classic I see it come up on my feed on Instagram it's like a screenshot of uh a Facebook post of somebody's put on there um can anybody recommend uh an air fryer that will do a family of eight and somebody writes underneath Calm down Jeffrey Dahmer no it's uh it's uh no in fact that's the one Jim got so it's uh an all-single dancer is a pressure cooker air fryer bang it's not one of those ones it's got the different compartments our our um microwave's an air fryer it's like a um it does it yeah um it's an absolute beauty like an a um oven microwave air fryer I forgot about that yeah well make you uh I'll uh post some photos of if if the chicken wings are good I'll I'll be posting a uh uh uh I'll kind of get an Anna into uh chicken wings anyway before we go to the States when we get some proper wings because uh the the the these wings are like like I went to Tusco's you go and get a bag of wings and it's like it's minuscule things whereas I'm like I cannot wait to get to the States where I'm sat there with me uh yeah buffalo wings sat there smashing it in uh uh Anna just the only place I don't know is this buddy um what do you call it Titty Bar um Hooters Hooters she's thinking I'm like babe so you should not look that is the only I mean and it's a family establishment by the way that's established uh get that there but um uh the uh uh I said we'll go to some proper wings places and then you'll be uh hooked on it and so for for breakfast make sure you go to waffle houses and just your free coffee and your waffles with with bacon yeah I love waffles of bacon yeah yeah amazing and and just the the free coffee or not free but the top up coffee it's just epic coffee and cream half a half yeah no black coffee uh flat black flat black mate the real flat black too bloody right yeah so I I I went I think get Anna to video you going into a coffee shop asking for a flat black in America and and just see what happens just I'll probably get shot mate to be honest I was gonna say why is Lee being tasered yeah exactly that but yeah I'm I am looking forward that as we get closer to like the big day and I and I noticed uh distance wise I was like do you reckon I can drive to Vegas from LA and I've kind of gone well it's four hours and I'm like well if it's four hours in Google you can always beat Google you know and and it's four hours but that's that's still quicker than getting there from here it's uh it's just your classic where you live in the mainland it's just up the road yeah exactly yeah it is just up the road but it is it's just go up there I was thinking hmm don't forget when you come back and you say Anna I've had to bet the car yeah but I did I I did suddenly think I mean well what Ted what's Ted's gonna do when we're in vague when we're in Vegas I mean yeah we can walk around the outside and there's loads of stuff to see you know stuff to see but if you're going to Vegas you want to go in the casino so I was like googling what's the minimum age to go in there. I was like right this could be uh Ted's you just outside with some coconut out of interest is it 21 yeah 18 I think you can go in at 18 but you can't gamble to your 21 I think or something like that so what if you're there as a family though exactly uh you have to do the other stuff I'm sure and there will be other stuff but um to do bits um yeah I think and it'll be an overnighter we've already booked um all of our combination LA so it's probably gonna be you mean you you mean you haven't been swamped with calls for free Airbnb's no I haven't I'm about to I haven't I'm about to go downstairs and Anna's already been uh selected to the short final so we're gonna um oh big big decision night yeah just go and smash it and a few drinks first so just a lesson for pain um because it's so bloody expensive out there um actually certainly when you compare it to when we were in when we were booking Thailand or Vietnam and you I don't know I'm just like you how much and then when what month are you out there? Uh October uh so it's after the World Cup anyway so yeah yeah yeah exactly yeah so uh be it American football um uh time I've got to see if uh Anna's willing to uh go and see a game I'm laughing because I know what the answer's gonna be but uh you get to one of those stadiums she'll do a hep in again the amount of steps you'll need to play to go there yeah yeah I think I've done what did I do I did the Washington well commanders now but the Washington Redskins then and we were up at the butter with the gods and you're right it's a bloody certainly a lick out going up there can you um not pull the blue badge uh holder uh option see if see if Anna can milk it'd be fit then get me fit still running we'll be I've already Ted's we're gonna be down in Venice Beach uh working out down there in the muscle muscle beach muscle beach be smashing it out there uh I can't wait for these photos yeah I might have to go to the gym tomorrow morning might have to start working out again he he's Teddy's ripped and he's just always down there and just sits there and just goes there's nothing on him so he just sits there and just like smashes out a lot of weight and in like a true teenage boy.
SPEAKER_00Well you're doing legs as well Ted nah just do buys and tries yeah well think think of all that granite work that you're gonna do when you're visiting here and it's all going to help towards your your uh muscle beach uh yeah physique yeah uh unlikely mate unlikely we'll be eating Fran's lovely cooking so uh uh whatever work I'll be doing I'd be uh correcting that I'm sure I need to we'll need to arrange a wine order for that as well it's gonna be quite good for holidays this year looking forward to uh your visit and then uh we're looking forward to coming up Christmas as well so that'll be nice that'd be incredible we'll have we'll have to we'll have to arrange a uh um if we book I'm thinking maybe we could book uh some uh St. Mary's Hall to do a live podcast and uh the profits from that tickets people pay for our dinner but do you think that works I think that works mate that's that's yeah there's free publicity that they will get from that um exactly we can just sit and just do it in the back there just sat there you know a nice uh uh glass of wine uh and then uh uh we can even off offer the uh questions out to the audience uh we went there we went there last week uh we went for Jules's birthday and we sat down and no word of a lie uh was it Ned I think Ned or yeah it was he said he looked at me he says um that woman over there she sat in a wedding dress and I wow so I turned around and there was a couple there who clearly just got married but yeah so they were it wasn't like a big wedding party it was just the bride and groom sat down having dinner in amongst all the rest of us it was quite it was lovely for them and a nice moment but but but I won't lie it was a bit weird it was a bit sort of all right you've you've you've not got changed for dinner but um I'm sure they've had an amazing day but it it it just threw me a bit of sitting a wedding dress.
SPEAKER_02You reckon they were hoping that someone's gonna p pick up their tab. No all I kept saying to everyone I'm with the wedding party put it on their bill it's on the wedding party thank you very much yes another bottle of that red yeah that would do great wedding party um I'm sure they had a lovely time but yeah I I found it a bit odd nice mill nice nice meal yeah it was lovely yeah I mean I suppose the question I've got to ask is how many ping drivers do you reckon you could you have uh bought for the price of that mill for all of you there don't answer that question but I'm sure yeah I've forgotten about that Fran has listened to the last podcast and she was asking me about that as well. Yes yes I do I've got my money I've got my money screwed away and I've got the green light for it but uh yeah again I was sat there so I'll think she did I play for my whatever day I played really rubbish I would I was ready to just walk in and buy a new driver and on Friday I've sat there giving it can I justify I mean Fran uh or Anna listening to us yes I can justify it yes I need it regardless uh it's part of my retirement fund but um yeah the money's ready I just need to go ahead and book a a fitting and uh uh pull the trigger yeah I I I do that sometimes I I I squirrel bits aside um but then it all gets taken away um because we need something urgently well I in saying that I these bad um these bad golf scores should highlight to Fran I can and exactly uh and and log my poor performance and the the improvement that could be seen with a new driver and putter I mean you listen to the same podcast as me Eddie Pepperell you know he he raves about that driver so you know if he's as a pro who can see the benefit think of the benefit that we'd get by you know jumping off and going at a ping for four and I'm not being funny mate think of the kudos when you go around the club I mean I I just I'd I'd walk around the clubhouse with it as you walk in there a brand new pink for uh driver like that wouldn't all right Russ you right driver like that even I think even Russ would be impressed if he rocked up with one of those I I'd probably um I'd take it into the clubhouse for a pint and take it home because I wouldn't want to leave it there. Exactly I mean I would not be ramming that bad boy into the uh uh into the locker into the locker oh no chance mate that'd be getting when uh VRP treatment Do you know I think that's why the the last driver got damaged I think it's been wedged bent in there um yeah so so yeah if that was to happen um it's um yeah they'll be coming home with me um every day I've had to uh I've noticed it in the new club I've got uh uh jointly have got lovely um uh changing rooms and um locker room there and the the the parking is uh by the beach and you walk up you can get out sometimes if you're if you're an early tea you can get one of the ones closer anyway first problems as I walked up there um and there's no spikes well not you know uh golf clubs uh shoes in the clubs I was a bit early so I kind of uh I wandered up there when it went in a changing room and uh just uh changed over I went oh I could do with a locker so I nipped upstairs I'm 28th on the uh on the list for a locker dead man shoes it is I think it is yeah they are nice and but the the big ones like you would be able to put your clubs in there and it's just like right but the problem is I like having the clubs available to me uh in the car because if everywhere well there's play in various spots but it'd be nice just to have some at least some shoes up there so I can just uh jump in and out. That is nice thing here I mean obviously we're on the island we've only got one little course so everything is there clubs shoes hats yeah um the all all the gear sort of thing um all all wedged in yeah jammed in there jammed in and and and kicking the door shut um but no it's yeah I I'll look into that they must make a a Chinese knockoff version uh surely um not not ping maybe pong I mean there's probably something racist that could go down there I'm not gonna go down there so I'll leave it at that it's gonna be uh but you know I mean there's always some sort of Chinese uh knockoff version of of uh a Western I mean for our Chinese listeners should we just say uh yeah uh Asian uh it's it's got a content it's not pick on the country um no it's picking on the country the the Chinese they always sort of reverse engineer stuff and do a cheaper version um I mean they actually I think they create the stuff uh if I was being honest mate I appreciate uh you the daily mail as a daily mail reader you think we we we suddenly all we make loads of good stuff and it's those Chinese coming around with their cheap shit just you're aware they make all the good stuff mate and everything breaks that we uh I was thinking more more more of the military type kit perhaps uh maybe allegedly I think we got to I think you do have to start for legal reasons use the word allegedly as well allegedly anyway is there a Pong Chinese uh no but you can probably get something from cost it's like anything it's got nothing to I mean I'd you know you might want to bleep this one out so Fran doesn't hear it but it's got nothing to do with the uh uh uh the driver it's the person behind it so you need to invest all that money and what you need to fly over to the mainland get an eagles and get those lessons in is what you need to be doing. Yeah that's true yeah I I uh we were talking about it at the club the other day but we need a a drive in range we need a place to to to practice sim mate you just need one of those even I mean you could get a sim in the in the clubhouse my in my garage well you could uh I'm not sure if it's tall enough now you've put the the front of it would be yeah um I mean don't get wrong it's a license to bring money if you I mean the if you got we're taking the mezzanine florals yeah mate honestly you sit there you could charge the sim and I as a club member what is it for me it's 60 50 quid for two hours uh for non-menders I don't yeah yeah and you know that's not bad that's just two good two hours in there um um so yeah you could easily do that and you're right um it'd be inundated um there you go but you're right a driving range would be better but I mean land if I Jesus Christ finding land I'll tell you what mate is one for you Nelly just listens to this Nelly be well up for this get rid of those horses turn the whole place into a driving range track man all along there you'll be literally printing money you won't be able to move you'll be like horses what horses as you're on your further full following of the year all I'm saying remember maybe maybe keep one of those uh those those ponies that turn into big horses too exactly facts to to pull uh the the ball collector behind it at the end of the day no because everyone fires golf balls at uh the the golf collector uh you can't help it i mean every time you see a little man and his little uh gator when they drive around picking them up there or even the robots that's that's the ending point of course it's every point everyone knows that you sit there and you smash it towards it and to be fair that horses would be shitting everywhere all over the Gulf yeah yeah exactly that bad uh no um anyway well we what we like for our listeners are we have you done a crawl um can I tell you what no in terms of downloads we let's have a look no we we've done in terms of locations we're we're smashing the locations that is um epic have you noticed that we've got we've had 11 downloads from Vietnam so the Isles of Silly Steamship Company's new vessels are being built in Vietnam ah right gotcha so every time we uh uh maybe we should be sponsored by the steamship company ours of silly steamship company sponsors islands to islands um uh so they that that that was my thinking as to why we were we were doing i i i just thought people were learning english uh uh in vietnam and they were using they definitely wouldn't be listening to us guys oh yeah um yeah vietnam is yeah they they're regular so there's obviously um hello if it is uh um the guys from steamship company listening out there doing a grand job menowethan is on its way back to the uk uh that's the the cargo vessel that's about to round Cape of Good Hope I think they might be going into uh Port Elizabeth soon um I frightened the CEO of the company the other day when I said that's the area of the um oceans where you get those really you know freak waves those oh yeah shit um and the passenger ferry Salonium four that's uh well underway and on track for being delivered uh and into service for next year so um if that is that crowd listen out of Vietnam um I hope you're all well and we're well we're slowly catching up with the weather I was gonna say it's probably getting all that heat out there but it's it's here now as my red face can attest to um from four minutes out in the sun.
SPEAKER_00I think I think you can get yeah you can get some knockoff uh Yeti uh cool boxes from uh Vietnam so if you are just fill up the uh uh cargo ship and bring them back yeah or the cargo ship's underway so we've messed up that that ship has literally sailed um so uh the passenger ferry if you could get some Yeti or whichever brand uh Vietnamese um that'd be delighted um we can set up some business here when you get back um African countries uh a few of those South America again South America is quite an odd one that's a sort of um Uruguay of some flirting with us um and as is Colombia and but and Bolivia uh and Chile and Brazil again but uh um not it's weird and I don't think this is going to come for about another year or so I was listening to you'd listen to chatter bicks yeah bits of it I I can't stick with it the um yeah I really like it I find it I it's proper laugh out loud funny so but what they find is that they're reading emails from people from like years ago and and they it's taken so long for people to sort of listen and then email in um so anybody who is listening write in at any time um at some point we'll get around to replying and and talking about them but it'll be it'll be quite good fun to people who will catch us in a few years time and then email in um and by that time we'll be billionaires but yeah yeah we'll be we'll be running St Mary's Hall um proper wealth uh yeah yeah exactly that cool right in that case uh I'll uh uh I think we're looking at our time now Paul Pick's probably done his warm-up uh uh um we're good to go mate happy days all right have a good week and you mate I'll uh catch up uh we'll have to do it Friday if not we will have to delay because I'll be in no state uh on Saturday um and um we can do it live from from TikTok from Trick and what could possibly go wrong let's just bleep it now shall we after a few beers at the language but uh yes and we'll do it next Friday mate Friday's good because we've got the start of gig weekend that night so um yeah sweet that'd be that'd be a good one cool all right mate we'll have a great week and uh mate
