This Easter Dale and Lee catch up to discuss Lees impressive start to his fishing "career". Lee explains the ins and outs of fly fishing and how he impressed fellow fishers with his fly knowledge. Dale has his tinterweb installed (at last) and refuses to understand the complexities of golf scoring. Pilot boat work, Island clean up, fuel costs and family returning for Easter are all discussed in this weeks catch up by the brothers-in-law.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to Highlands to the Islands. I'm Lee, chatting to you from the Highlands. And I'm Dale, living life here on the Isles of Scilly. Each week we'll swap stories from the Highlands to the Islands, local news, DIY disasters, barbecue bragging, goal frustrations, and all weird and wonderful stuff that fills our weeks.

SPEAKER_03

Basically, it's two brothers in laws having a laugh, trying to one-up each other, and bringing you along for the ride.

SPEAKER_00

So, grab a cupper or a pint and let's jump into today's episode. Dale, what's been happening on the docks this week?

SPEAKER_03

It's all about the pilot boat, still. Still about the pilot boat. Um really it's it's such a game changer. But it has been um another busy week down there. Sorry, as I'm talking to you, the dog's attacking the cat who's about to attack the dog. Um, but no, uh, pilot boat. Um, we had first pilotage job this week for the pilot boat, a lovely um near 50 meter private yacht. Um very nice, very nice. Uh so first pilotage job for the John Guy uh uh arrived on the Wednesday. They were supposed to stay a few four or five days, but the weather's put that off. Uh so they departed on the Thursday evening. Um and then we've had the blessing as well. So we had the chaplain to the Isles of Scilly um delivered a blessing for the boat.

SPEAKER_00

So I saw that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, really nice ceremony, I have to say. Um uh it's uh um she uh blessed the vessel with the holy water. Um I think Mike and Reese were looking at it saying, Well, if we give her a brush, she might give it a whole wash down. But uh sorry, I'm trying to I'm still trying to stop the dog attacking the cat here. Good luck on that one. The cat's standing her ground annoyingly. Well, like that green. Um, but no, so so the uh the the blessing ceremony, really nice actually, quite a touching ceremony. Uh some family, uh some uh locals, some visitors, all the pilots, the harbour staff as well, obviously. Uh and Jonathan, young Jonathan, gave a fantastic speech. He he spoke really well, actually, um, given his sort of um description of John and his time on the islands and at the harbour. Um, so yeah, yeah, really nice. Um, about half an hour, and then we uh we all toasted John with his um um his favourite triple uh tipple, little uh drop of Rioca on the boat. Um and we give people a tour round and and weirdly, the following day we put the boat out on the moorins and it was pretty fresh out there. Um and Reese went out the day after the blessing and sent me a picture saying the uh there was a wine glass left on the bow. It survived, it's still there. So um it was empty, of course, but uh uh no ah dog, she's attacking me now. Um but other things in the harbour. Um still got concerns and issues over freight. We were supposed to see the the freight ship arrive. That's developed another problem with it, unfortunately, which meant that they couldn't come. So, yeah, still got the ferry delivering freight and goods, and of course it's Easter weekend and Easter holidays.

SPEAKER_00

Um I guess, isn't it?

SPEAKER_03

It is numbers-wise, lots of people arriving and right on queue. The weather's gone back to winter mode. Uh, wind and rain and fog, uh, so travel disruption, galore to the islands, unfortunately. Um, out of everyone's control. But uh I think people think that you you sort of it saves itself for these bank holiday weekends and holiday peers. You can't win. It's like, yeah, here comes the bad weather. And I feel so sorry for the people who you know spend their good money getting here and want to have a nice relaxing time on Silly, and it's lash of moraine now. As um I'm looking outside. It's been foggy all day, and flights have been disrupted again. The ship's been full, but the sea conditions have been rubbish as well. So lots of funny looking coloured people coming off the ship, you know, lots of greens and greys. Um it's not not going to be a particularly nice crossing for them tomorrow either. There's no um weather warnings out and and more.

SPEAKER_00

Um have you got a move down yours? I won't sure if you I mean we've got um Storm Dave coming up, so he's uh uh pissing off our uh pissing off my uh uh outdoor activities this weekend. I wasn't sure if it was um I suppose it's mostly West Coast.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, I think um certainly sea conditions are not great. Even over the next sort of week, ten days, it's still three, four, five meters of swells, um, which doesn't make for a great crossing on the ferry, unfortunately. But um but hey-ho, uh it's it's gonna need a bigger boat, mate.

SPEAKER_00

Gonna need a bigger boat. Should have got camerang. I've always said that. Need a nice massive camerang that'll do it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, but no, busy, busy down in the harbour. Um freight-wise, we've had landing craft arriving. We've got the the Valonia, which is a sort of crew transfer vessel but can carry about 20 tons. That's coming over the weekend. Another landing craft's coming over the weekend. They had a a multicat, the obovar. So sort of all the vessels they could get hold of to deliver freight to try and keep the co-op stocked with um with our food and stuff. Um, I think some of the shelves were empty over the week and people taking pictures and putting it on social media. Um just one of the issues and struggles of living in an island community, I suppose, when when the boats broke, you're um hot and dry here. A bit frustrating, but it's it it will get better. Um it doesn't make it any easier for those who are frustrated now, but it'll it'll come. But um last week, prior to the week, we had uh some fantastic weather, sunshine and a real community spirit. Everybody came out on the Sunday uh and did a a whole clean of Hughtown basically, sweeping the roads, the the pavements, um cleaning all the weeds and the rubbish and old bikes that were found in car parks and stuff. But there was um it was about two and a half tonnes of waste that um the residents, the community picked up together. So we went down and took part in that. And um yeah, it's quite uh it's quite a nice thing to be part of. It was quite a feel-good feel-good sort of factor to it all, um, which was great. Um, but then the weather turned nasty after that, which is a pain in the ass.

SPEAKER_00

It is, isn't it? I suppose, yeah. I'm a big fan of uh um certainly around here when I'm walking around. Um I have that I can't uh walk on by when I see stuff that he's picking up. That includes other people's dog turds, but uh I will still do it because uh yeah, I just can't you know no one else is gonna do it, so you just sit in there. Oh bloody I'll pick this up. Because if you don't just sit so annoyed, doesn't it once I get it done?

SPEAKER_03

There's not there's nothing worse than people who've gone to the effort of picking up the dog shits and putting a dog and then leaving the bags.

SPEAKER_00

Oh or throwing them onto uh honestly, it's they should be shot and of bang, get rid of them. This is instant shooting, bang.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but I I reckon there's definitely a generational thing because I I remember one of the first times my mum came to Silly and to be fair, she thought that these bags were biodegradable and and sort of you know, you could so she'd gone to the effort of picking up the dog poo and and tying up and launched it in the sea. What the fuck are you doing? What are you doing? She's like, Oh I mean did they not I mean did they not disintegrate? And and I said, No, it's a plastic bag.

SPEAKER_00

Was it a good throw though? Because I mean, you know, if it's it was it was epic.

SPEAKER_03

I was uh you know that's better than leaving on the side, mate mate.

SPEAKER_00

If I had to pick one though, annoyingly, you know, the people that leave them or on trees, etc. Oh, pick one.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you're right about the uh plastic, but hey, you know, I think the the the bags now um they are sort of biodegradable and and and made of things that will compost down, or you can get those. Um but this was back in the day of uh people were just getting cottoning onto you have to pick up your dog poo and yeah, mum just launched it. No word of warning that she was about to do it, just some sort of baseball launch of a bag of dog shit into the sea. Which um yeah, I I said to her, I said, if anybody asks me, I don't know you. Yeah, it's probably still floating around the island somewhere stuck in the tidal system. It's but um yeah, yeah. Uh but no, a really good cleanup for the community. It was um yeah, as I say, a feel-good factor, because the islands are looking a bit dismal with all the building works and all the storm damage and the trees and stuff. So the town looked fantastic. Um but yeah, if we could just get the weather, everything would be alright.

SPEAKER_00

Uh it didn't get good till May June anyway, so yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well, at least it's light now.

SPEAKER_00

Um epic. Yeah, literally 24-7 now. I just need to get out. I was sat there. What have I done? This week. Um spoke to you. In fact, yeah, Sunday was the first golf escapade. We had a uh blow your mind now trying to talk golf chat to you. Uh do you know what a uh a uh scramble is? Texas scramble.

SPEAKER_03

Texas, yeah, it's some some golfing term for people who play golf together.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. Any further than that?

SPEAKER_03

Isn't that sorry? This dog is trying to attack me. Um uh no, if I'm honest. Um, that's not one where you the longest drive and then the second player will hit no.

SPEAKER_00

You choose you will you probably yeah you're kind of on the right uh format, so yeah. Uh uh so it was a uh MFR charity um game at Forest on Sunday. So a friend of mine put together a team, um four of us, and then uh yeah, you basically you've got to get each person's got to um uh do free drives. So you drive and then you just pick who's who's who's the best, or it's normally the longest, but you know, it's it's actually best positions. The best lie, yeah. Best lie and that stuff of that. So yeah, but uh I think we we done um yeah, so we with our handicap, and again that will just blow your mind, we had uh I think we had 14 uh shots. Um that doesn't make any sense, no yeah, but we had 14 shots, uh, and then we went round in two under around the course. So uh that's a total of six, so we scored 16 under, which is a good score. But you if you know anything about uh Texas scrambles, there's some maps. I mean, it's based on integrity integrity. I mean, golf is all one of those games where you just gotta be honest, um, and it seems to be slowly this kind of I don't know, this element creeping into the uh uh uh Texas scramble formats, Texas scramble formats that um the scores are getting lower and lower and lower, and it's just kind of like, really? Is that honest? I mean, you know, we done you know, we done well there. I mean, you know, two under uh with a mix of uh various handicaps, so we were very impressed, and the weather was shocking. It was like one minute it was blowing 50 knots, the next it had calmed down, rain, how sleep the lot, good Scottish uh summer. Um so we were really impressed to go around you know two under. Um, and I'm not gonna lie to you, those two birdies were done to my putting, so it was always nice. Oh no way, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So that's the all the reason you need to buy that lab, putter.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, well, no, I don't, unfortunately. I went round there thinking I need a new driver, a new putter, and I came, I left there thinking, well, I've already got an excuse. Damn it. Uh, but and I won't be listening to this, so don't worry about that.

SPEAKER_03

I definitely so you um you you didn't go out on the the evening before then, so you you you attended this this this round, this uh yes, yes, less said about that the more better.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yes, so uh uh yes, I actually tended this one.

SPEAKER_03

So did did you win then? Does it what was that a win?

SPEAKER_00

Well, no, so so we're we're 16 under, so I can't do the math. 54. Um we fortunately rightly so, it was in two divisions again, high handicaps versus low uh and low handicaps, which is a good thing. Um we were fourth, but then I got a text message a couple of days ago to say one of the teams ahead of us had uh incorrectly filled in their cards or I don't know, whatever.

SPEAKER_03

Disqualification, yeah. So yeah, we did, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So we got uh we got promoted to third. So we're still wondering if there's a cash prize knocking around somewhere. So I'll be chasing that this week.

SPEAKER_03

So at least a med a medal of some sort, or you know, on the podium.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so that'd be good. But yeah, but like you say, yeah, now the sun's uh back uh and that was the Sunday, so the clocks have gone forward, so now it's just uh oh, it's a blissful to be this part of the country now. The days are just like lovely and long, they're just confusing the hell out of me. I'm just like can I do that?

SPEAKER_03

Unless you want an early night, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, yeah, you're right, yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah. So I'm trying to think this week I've played uh I was writing it down. I think I've played uh golf on Tu Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and then fishing Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Yeah, so it's uh you know busy week for me, mate.

SPEAKER_03

Busy, busy week at work there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you know, outside of work, that's what you've got a longer day, you've got to kind of uh maximise your time, mate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, we we went round today. We I didn't get to play at all through the week, but um uh Tim and I went round um turned up to the course this afternoon, and it's a cross-country um course that they'd rigged out, so you're you're zigzagging across the the local course with you get a piece of paper saying which which green you're aiming for and which team you're going for. It's actually quite good fun, but and and it and it does it gives you that impression of you're playing a different course because you this it's not the normal Yeah, yeah, definitely.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the competition was it?

SPEAKER_03

There we didn't go for the competition, but yeah, there is a competition today for the for the cross country with um various people up there, but really it's very windy here. Um that was my excuse. Um windy, challenging conditions, and an unusual, I'm not an unusual course that I'm not used to. Uh um or I'm just crap at golf. Uh it could be the best excuse, but no, it's quite enjoyable actually. And I was chatting to a guy in the clubhouse afterwards, um, and I was I was saying the same thing about you know, rocket science to me, this golf score and you know, stroke index nine, you get three shots, that's worth four, that's five. That's a that's an eight for two plus three gives you what? And he said he said he's been playing. I mean, this guy's been playing for decades. He's like, he still doesn't get it himself. I went, Thank Christ for that. It's not just me. He said, No, he says, I use um use the phone, I put it into Grok AI, it does it all for me. I was like, all right, I didn't think of that. So I I'll next next week or next time chance I play, I'll be yeah, yeah, confidently. Yes, yes. Uh played the uh the six. I got two strokes on that, or two shots. It is difficult, mate.

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, it honestly is not.

SPEAKER_03

I just haven't got time to uh pay any attention, if I'm honest.

SPEAKER_00

It really isn't difficult.

SPEAKER_03

But it was a good I I was I was more impressed with this guy who's played for for years, going, Yeah, I just put it in my my phone on AI. I went, Yes, why didn't I think of that? Um so there are other people, it's not just me. Um and he's a good golfer as well. Um but yeah, and an enjoyable round today, nonetheless. It was it was something different. Um, a few good shots, quite a few bad shots, um quite a few lost balls as well. Uh that was annoying. But um but still nice walk. Cool. I I wouldn't have made the cut for the Masters, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I know, yeah. Um it's difficult chatting to you about golf though, because you uh I was gonna say I was playing Matt's play on Tuesday. Do you know what that means?

SPEAKER_03

Isn't that is that a game of cards?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, so it's another slightly different format play against Kev. I was four down uh with six to play, seven to play, and I run what I went for a run of winning all four, so it was all square on the 15th. Getting very excited then.

SPEAKER_03

But um you see your name and lights then. Well, I thought that was a great combat then.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was. I literally sat there and then uh yeah, par three, uh tough par three, children yard par three, and headed into the bunk uh uh uh the uh greenside bunker. And unfortunately my bunker plays not too bad. Normally I would back myself, but I didn't get out in one, so and my opponent had uh took full advantage of that. So and then after that, I never really quite got back into it. But yeah, good format. I think I think we've played match play before, um, but you've just ignored it and you just keep counting strokes. How many shots have I had? Yeah, it's not that you've got so many shots you got anyway. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

How many hits of my bat have I had?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, exactly. That's but no, no, so it's yeah, it's it's definitely golf season here now. You can do you can just tell this just it's just like literally golf, golf, golf, like right, get a tea time, what time we're at work, right? We'll get a morning tea time, then bang, sat there at like 10 to uh 10 to 8. Um uh three-hour game of golf and then coming to work, um uh which is always good.

SPEAKER_03

Golf before work, yeah, yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

That's the way forward. Yeah, or golf after work, so it's just it's just there, and then uh and then fishing this season, the river.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I've got to hear about this fish's story. I saw the picture and and I thought, you know, you you could have fed the 5,000 with that fish.

SPEAKER_00

Uh anyway, it's not that so day one, the Wednesday was uh on the lossy, so that opened on April the 1st. We were down there at 6 o'clock because the guy I was fishing with had to go to work. It was at mornings, I think. So we did a couple hours in the morning, beautiful morning. So do you know when you you know you get up there early? Nice to get up that it was the uh I was sat there panicking, so I thought I didn't really bloody torture me. But uh the full moon or full moon-ish was just uh setting as the sun has come out. Uh yeah, it was, yeah, and then got down there beautiful. That's why that first photo I posted on me on the gram uh came out. Uh he took that. Uh I didn't catch anything that day. Uh gloss over that. Yeah, gloss over that part. Uh so the next day there's a fishery up here. Um and yeah, I uh got down there. I think there's one guy there before me, sat there, beautiful still days. We just walk in there and just think, oh yes, I don't need to catch anything. And that's the great thing about fishing around here, you know, it is being it with nature. Yeah, you can hear the woodpeckers, blah blah. So you said, I mean, don't get wrong, once you've started, you kind of like, well, I want to catch a fish, but it's a nice, you know, you walk in there, and uh I as normal, so I was fly fishing this time. Um, and I'm a bit shit of I'm a bit shit at fishing generally, but fly fishing is definitely shit.

SPEAKER_03

Did you make your own on flies?

SPEAKER_00

No, get on there we go. My eyesight, mate. I've literally just been on Amazon and bought some and some other uh glasses because I can see I'm struggling to I I have noticed the seed seed sea fishing versus uh uh course and fire fishing because you're just different in weight size of uh line. It is just an absolute I can't see diddly scott. I've got I've literally just ordered plus three and a half, uh milk bottles, yeah. Honestly, just the close in stuff to talk me out there. So yeah, anyway, so yeah, uh fish uh fishing along there, not having a clue, uh diddly. And uh thought I'd swap flies because for no other reason than I thought that's what you do. Um I still don't really know the difference between dry and wet flies. I mean, I I know principally what they do, one floats and one sinks slowly. But when I'm looking at the box of flies, I'm like, which one of these are you gonna float? And I throw them out there, and I'm like, well, I didn't float, so that's a bit shit.

SPEAKER_03

Uh lost that one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I've sat there giving it right. So there's a there's one I do know, and I know its name, and I'll get to that story in a minute. So I was lost like, oh, I use that one, right? Um, anyway, casting around. I'm kind of I I'll enjoy it because I'm learning to cast, and it's you know, there's an art to it which I haven't got. Um, but getting better, improving, and then uh got me first fish. You know, any fish, and you've done enough fishing to know that as soon as you get that bite, there's an excitement, and then you know, yeah. Uh and of course, um I'm uh I'm there giving it right, where's my bloody uh net? And I've got my net, and I'm like, all right, so bring bring it in net, bring the fish in there. I'm like, right, you know, um I haven't paid for uh for um keeping the fish, so I'd better release it. Um you know, this decent size rainbow trout. So quick photo, get the get the fly out, and then uh um I thought, right, better send on its on its way.

SPEAKER_03

Foul hooked, was it? Well no, it wasn't.

SPEAKER_00

Uh but luckily uh trout haven't got particularly great teeth, so I could get my hands in there just to make sure I got it out there. So got the um fly out, which honestly, I as I put it back, it just literally twisted upside down. I went, You're shitting me. It's dead. I've released it dead into the fishery. There's no way I'm gonna get away with this because it's you know, it's it's a lake. Uh you're gonna see it, and it's just sucking it upside down, bobbing and I went, Oh, you're shitting me. There's like me and another guy down the uh halfway down the lake, and I thought, right, so I'd luckily had wellies on. So I kind of tentatively tried to get in there. It was a little bit deep, so I had to go back, get the net, then coax it back in. I thought, oh fucking hell. So I got it and right, come on in. So I put it the right way up there and kind of gave a little wiggle. I mean, I could lie and say I gave it mouth to mouth now, but effectively is what I I gave it mouth to mouth by wiggle it around and he started moving. I went, Oh my god. And then uh just held him for a little bit. Come on, have a little rest, little man. I don't know. And then away it went. Thank God. To do little there. So yeah, so uh a couple of fish down. So and then another um um caulkin uh second fish. I won't bore people that got no interest in fish about it, but it's a great uh great fight on that one. Brought in uh uh a better release this time. So again, you know, learning had taken place. So like all things, I thought, you know, a couple of hours I'll do, can't spend all day here, got golf to play later. Um so packed up my gear, and by this stage the uh um the fishery had kind of you know uh uh filled up a little bit and no one else had caught. So I'm I'm I'm kind of like strutting. I'm about another couple of inches taller now, giving it, you know, check me out. So I kind of like Did you start giving it?

SPEAKER_03

Did you start giving advice to the other fish? What do you want to do, right?

SPEAKER_00

Right. So I've sat there and I kept my fly on on the on its line, etc. Going on past, and there was a woman uh and the next uh um slot next to me, you know, you're like oh she's just like oh what you what you what are you using? And I haven't got a clue, right? So I've just gone there uh wet fly, yeah. And then I went, um I think I think he said uh Anna McCoyist. No, sorry, uh Gordon Stracken. It's Gordon Stracken, I said to her, and then I was walking past, and uh and I was just like, I don't think it's Gordon Stracken, I know it's a Scottish footballer, and anyway, so I get to the next guy and I remembered it. I said, Yeah, I said I haven't got a clue. I said, I think it's a Gordon Stracken, and he looked, he went, and he looked at it. Well, Ali McCoy, he went, that's the one, Ali McCoy. I knew it was a Scottish uh footballer, and I'm absolute chisler. So uh uh and I just like anyway, so I'm uh very thankful for telling me what the hell I'd use to catch it, and then and I just kind of just ran away to thinking, oh my god.

SPEAKER_03

Um that woman's gone home to Google Gordon Stracken flies.

SPEAKER_00

Um I think it's actually in my search history before because a friend of mine who kind of uh took him under his wing for a bit of uh uh fly fish and it said he uses this one, it seems to work well. And uh yeah, uh when I when I was looking to buy some myself, I was put looking for Gordon Strackens flies, and there aren't any Gordon Stracken flies.

SPEAKER_03

They're very rare, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They're very rare, yeah. Uh yeah, not they're not even on Google, they're that rare.

SPEAKER_03

So that in your new shed, when you set up your fly building station, you need to make uh load a range of uh Gordon Strachans.

SPEAKER_00

I should do really limited edition. So yeah, I was giggling to myself then.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you know, uh I would have said Gordon's trackens are a good name for it. You know, you could go for the redhead, redhead uh flare on it, yeah. Can't believe it's not called Archie Gemmel.

SPEAKER_00

Um get them in there, and yeah. Yes, but uh but anyway, so that was my uh um yeah, my little uh um piece of uh fly fishing.

SPEAKER_03

Uh I think you you you you will have you'd have started something, it's like the flat black. Um, you know, yeah. Oh when you go back up there next time, oh yeah, I I too am using a golden strachen, it's just it'll just become a thing.

SPEAKER_00

It should be. I should if I'd done it confidently that would have been it, yeah. I mean, I do like the fact that you know it's almost worth getting to fly making now just to uh uh make that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you haven't got a golden strachen in your uh in your in your kit. Oh really? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's brilliant. I know I had to giggle, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But um, so you don't what's the what's the price difference from uh so you had to release what do you need to pay to keep your uh dead fish that you punk in?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah I I I I don't know if I I yeah some some of them you can you get like you get to keep one or whatever, uh depending on it on um yeah, I think some of the catch and release you can keep some and the price difference. I I didn't even look to be honest.

SPEAKER_03

Um I'm sure if you put a dead fish back in the sea, that's classed as waste. Well, exactly you're effectively dumping waste uh into the sea. Because that that that's what happens when whales um beach and they die on the beach, you're not allowed to drag them back into the sea because it's it's classed as uh contaminated waste, then um to that's what you you've you contaminated the entire Scottish.

SPEAKER_00

It went back alive, it went back alive, and it wasn't into the sea anyway.

SPEAKER_03

I saw it swim away with Gordon Strack and hanging out of his mouth.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, so uh no, it's good. Oh, well done.

SPEAKER_03

That I to be fair, that that picture you put on Instagram, I I saw it and I went, that's a fish. Yeah, I'd I'd be I'd be that'd be above my head, that'd be above my head, showing it to everyone on the lake.

SPEAKER_00

I don't that's why you need to take someone fishing with you because I because I'm a bit scared of like killing it or whatever, which I almost did. Uh I got got it straight in there, you know, get them in there straight away. So you need to yeah, I need to be uh work on some uh system. I mean, I'm not gonna lie to you. I literally I know it's trout. I was trying to work out what type. So I just chat GPG'd a lot of it, and uh I'll be doing for my golf scores, so yeah, so please. And I said, What's this fish? And he went, Oh yeah, rainbow trout, blah blah. Yeah, it's a good size, uh, two to three pounds. I was like, beautiful, thank you very much. I even got a weight out of it, so I was happy with that.

SPEAKER_03

Have you now uh got got an order uh graduated scales for fishing? I've got my own scales now, load cell on the on the end of my rod.

SPEAKER_00

Good idea, yeah. Yeah, no, so uh I'll I'll get better and the photos will get better. I'll be doing the old classic, holding it full arm's length away from me, uh closer to the camera to make it look bigger and all those great tricks.

SPEAKER_03

Uh I'll wait to see the one where you're lying on the bank with it sort of uh on top of you. It's that massive monster that nobody's ever caught. But um yeah, caught that with a golden stracking, mate. Yeah. That's gotta be a thing now.

SPEAKER_00

It's it needs to be, yeah. It needs to be. It's not on it's not on um Google, I didn't have much noise looking for it.

SPEAKER_03

I imagine this is it's fair weather fishing, it's not uh well it's in that. I suppose you can go down at any time, can you?

SPEAKER_00

You can do, yeah, but with fly fishing, but like you know, like there's the wind that mugs off. And if you're an amateur um um cast like I am, then um you know any variable is gonna screw you over.

SPEAKER_03

So what what's the score with the swivels then? Is that um that has to be that's separate to the fly? So fly onto a swivel.

SPEAKER_00

That was something else. Sorry, yeah, you're looking at my notes here. Uh so a swivels, yes, swivels. Um, yeah. So I went fishing today. Um what was I doing? I got me a haircut and I was checking the um well the weather's meant to be rubbish here. So I turned around to a few of the guys that got uh maybe playing. I was playing golf last night and I said, Oh, you know, said what you did tomorrow? I said, I'll probably uh uh playing golf at Farries uh with a couple of guys, and I said, Oh, weather's a bit shit, and uh so I um cancelled and and and troop style weather's been epic here today. Um little bit of wind, but something um gym haircut, and then I went right. I was in town and grabbed a bit of lunch, and then uh I was like, oh, I might go look for some sea trout um off the um off of the spay just outside there. You can uh um with a license you can fish out there, and I was gonna eat that one if I caught any uh sea trout. Um and uh so I kind of looked and went, right, I think I did I I checked the uh tides out on one app and then I put it into Chat GPT as I do, good setup for uh sea trout fishing, and so uh it comes along there and uh it a different tide time and I went, What? I thought it was high tide at um half four. So uh um one of the fishing apps I've got on there. It's got high tide at half four. Um and I went on to uh uh BBC it's like half one. I was like, so uh I kind of rushed home uh to grab the gear, um, unpacked fly fishing kit and switched to um sea fish uh sea trout mode, uh chucked some stuff on there, got down there and uh thought oh it was literally at high tide just falling, which is fine, which you know, actually the right time to fish for them. And I kind of went right. Bit of fishing, so set up there. There's a bit of a wind going on there. Anyway, cast out um at five, ten minutes, and uh one of my dodgy knots. Um yeah, don't um the uh I lost I lost the um the uh uh lure. I thought, okay, well I've got plenty here, so uh I got my bag out here and I started looking and thinking, oh, how am I gonna tie this? You know, if I tie this straight onto that, or the line's gonna need a swivel. Oh shit. Yeah, so all the swivels were left at home. So uh yeah. Lesson there, mate, don't rush. Uh or else, uh yeah, so that was it. So I thought, well, well, sweat it, I'll come back. Um, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So did you abandon abandon the fishing completely then?

SPEAKER_00

Uh well yeah, yeah. Well, after I lost that, I didn't have a swivel or anything to do it, so it's just a case of I I tried one uh one without a swivel, and that um um just a tempt just where it keeps spinning through the sea, it's yeah, it's like it's not gonna work. Or the line gets all twisted and shit, so it's like right.

SPEAKER_03

So it sounds way too complicated. We go out with a hand line here and uh come back with a bolt fill.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Leathered hand line, pollock, there you go, boom, mackerel, straight up. Um yeah, I I I don't think I can get into that technical fish. It sounds like technical fishing.

SPEAKER_00

It's not, it's called sport fishing, but uh yeah, you can drop a line if you want.

SPEAKER_03

Can you can you chuck a hand line and catch a fish?

SPEAKER_00

You probably can, mate. You probably can. I'm sure in days of old yeah, they would have used that. Uh in fact, they would probably thinn, did it? Yeah, probably it's netted a lot, that's why there's no fish left, mate.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, people keep releasing dead ones and it was alive, it was dead, that's it. You've you've poisoned the lake, that's it. Yeah, yeah, it's fine.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, uh Masters, one week to go. Uh, have you got Amazon Prime?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Have you literally watched the uh McElroy uh documentary?

SPEAKER_03

No, I haven't got time for that, but um, I I I need to watch that.

SPEAKER_00

Dedicate an hour of your time to watch that.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, what is the the the final weekend of um of Masters? So we've got Masters Week as next, is that right?

SPEAKER_00

That's right, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And then the following weekend is like the so I'm off. I'm not off the Thursday, Friday, but uh Friday I might find an excuse to finish early and um Saturday, Sunday, and then the whole following week I'm off. So um that would be me. So I'll I'll take all the hints and tips uh uh gleaned from the the final day on on Masters uh day. Uh and then proceed to the golf course on the Monday and um and and lose, no doubt.

SPEAKER_00

Nice to see you, mate. Nice to see you. Uh I mean don't get wrong, mate. It is the American time, so you're okay. You will be watching it. You can watch it Thursday and Friday because it'll be an evening. In fact, Wednesday is the is the classic par three, always worth watching that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, and then Thursday, Friday, um, and then as you say, so you can uh watch it Thursday evening, uh run a golf on Friday, uh uh in the tips on there, watch it Friday, and then yeah, exactly every day and away you go. You'd be all over it.

SPEAKER_03

I've been slowly dripping hints to Fran over the various days that you know, oh the golf's coming on. No, it's the Masters, you know, and and there's been as you can imagine, plenty of adverts on. And last weekend, uh I've I've I've taken to putting um Sky Golf on whatever tournament is on at the time, and just leaving that play as uh uh in the house, it's just on. Uh just to oh it's golf on again. Oh, yeah, yeah, it's the build up to the masters. It's not, it's the Tex Texas Championships. It was on last week or something. Uh and then and I said, Oh right, that's like, yeah, yeah, it's a big game coming up. Big game, big, big, big tournament coming up. Um so hopefully that's sort of sowing the seed that um I'm out of action. Well, you you've you've nailed haven't you? You've got uh full run of the house.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. Yeah, I'll just lock Anna downstairs somewhere in one of the spare rooms and she won't be able to chase me down. No, yeah, bed bound. You stay you stay in bed, darling, you stay in bed.

SPEAKER_03

House will be so quiet, you won't know what to do. What why why is there no noise coming up the stairs? What's going on? This is this is unusual.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. Kind of stomping around. I got around it. Although she may turn cut-like now with the new hip uh and surprise me like I do her. Jimmy, gently tip turn around the house, allegedly, like I do, yeah, like I do, allegedly.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I hope you bought Anna a a bell to go around the back so you can hear her from there on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'll get her a bell. I'll get her. In fact, this is that this is um uh this is good bell times uh uh because the bell we use is uh the lint uh bunny uh bell, and that is the bell that Anna ties on me. Uh uh so I might get her one of those and she can uh wear it as she's wandering around, or she may use it to call me. Luckily, it's uh uh small enough that I definitely won't hear that from a distance. Uh Thursday.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it's in the Christ.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yeah, yeah. That's her now. She's off for seven weeks, she's got a week's leave uh next week and then six weeks uh down. Seven weeks, plenty weeks.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's yeah milk in that one, Nana. I know, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

She's been trying, she's like, Oh, if I'm all right, I'm like, you've been signed up for six weeks, you're going no take it, take the lot, get the rest in.

SPEAKER_03

And and if she does feel fit enough to work, then there's plenty to do.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. There's loads around the house. It's like, you know, don't you worry about that, darling? You just uh crack on there.

SPEAKER_03

There's those 13 bird feeders got to be restocked.

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, mate. That's gonna turn onto my job. That's what I'm getting annoyed about. All these uh those birds aren't gonna be happy. I'm just gonna take them down. There we go. They're not emptied, they're not there. They can't be empty if they're not there.

SPEAKER_03

Uh the shit on your barbecue.

SPEAKER_00

I had one on my car the other day, bastards. Um, but yes, yeah. So, yeah, so that's that's next week's uh uh delights for us. Now I've noticed, I don't know if you noticed the clarity of the this line that we're on at the moment. Um is there some is there something different? Uh your end.

SPEAKER_03

I I have to say, uh the the the hardware side in terms of the the the blue job side of digging trenches and putting ducting and that sort of malarkey, I'm delighted that we we did do that um because this week um BT OpenReach arrived on time on the day, and and we're like, no, it's not gonna happen. Uh they did, they they're here on our island. Um Matey Boy had come over uh and we've now got fiber connected to the house. We are up live and and speaking on it now. Um and I have to say, and fair play to Fran, she has been pulling our hair out over two days of phone calls to Vodafone because Matey Boy came and did all the magic cree in the uh electrical box and and connected it all up and uh hey go, plug the router in. Doesn't work. Oh, okay. Reset the router. It's probably doing an upgrade or an update. Uh didn't work. So Fran has spent yesterday afternoon and and most of this morning on phone calls to BT to Vodafone. Because Vodafone is it's not their router, because funny old thing, that hasn't arrived because there's a bit of a freight issue. Um, and they gave us the dreaded news that um don't worry, we've delivered it with DPD. Um, mainland UK, they're fantastic, I understand, but that's the dreaded words we hear on the island DPD, because that could take um well, anything from up to two days to two months. Um and and normally the two months is is about right. So a post went out for a replacement Vodafone router, which multiple ones arrived at the house. Fantastic. Um Fran's been trialling them all day, and and um on the golf course I heard the phone vibrate in my pocket and I thought, well, I'll better look at it. Um we're on, we're live. So yeah, fair play. She's Fran's managed to to sort it all out, and um uh everybody's now logged on uh seeing how quickly we can sap the internet on the island. Yeah, um Ellen's home as well, so uh which is great. Ah from college, so she's got iPad, uh TV up there, uh a phone, obviously, everything else. Um but no, Tinter Web is uh is sorted, another box ticked um not long to go. Uh Gen Deck hasn't progressed at all, but um the priorities were getting the Tinter Web right. So yeah, it's gonna be a priority, yeah. We'll let you assess that on your visit on uh upload and download speeds and how it how it um compares, but it seems to be doing all right.

SPEAKER_00

I think I've heard mentioned it last year. I was thinking of um Starlink to be honest.

SPEAKER_03

Um and and through the week I've heard a few people mention that in town actually about uh looking at Starlink because exactly what you said, the price seems to have come down, and I'm like, no, no, I'm just getting fucking fiber.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, don't get it. I think fiber to the house is a game changer. I mean, if we had fiber to the house, in fact, everyone I know that's uh got it, Starlink, brilliant, but when you get fiber connected to the house, it's an absolute game changer there. You're in a different world there. Um, your Starlink's um I don't think can cope now. I mean I'd I can only assume the speeds uh have you done a speed test on yours yet?

SPEAKER_03

Uh I haven't because I got home from work this afternoon, came in, uh changed and walked straight back out the door to the golf course. So uh just just before I called you is when I had to shout to Fran, what's the password? Uh so that that's I haven't even spoken to Fran. Uh I wanted to come there.

SPEAKER_00

Funny now, I've just literally I've just said uh Anna just uh come in and just give me a quick wave as she's coming. So yeah, so find out how her last day at work's been. But uh yes. Oh cool, excellent. Well, it's nice you got it for the firebrand there. So uh maybe if if we if we get better looking, we'll uh um we'll start doing some video uh clips of this for our listeners.

SPEAKER_03

I'll have to do my hair uh yeah, exactly that, yes.

SPEAKER_00

And so Ellen back then, yeah. She got back, and then um what's this? Uh FJ was driven down from Scotland.

SPEAKER_03

He's done the the the long slog, so he drove down yesterday from Glasgow to Bristol he way, um sort of Cribbs Causeway. Is that Bristol? Cribbs Causeway, yeah. A big shop in Centre place, but um drove down there last night and then he's uh completing the journey or has completed the journey today.

SPEAKER_00

Why'd you stop at Bristol?

SPEAKER_03

Uh I don't know. I think it was either he had a mate that he was dropping off that way, so and and that was he had an exam yesterday, so he didn't leave until late. So he's not an exam at college, and jumped in the car, drove down and that case, and yeah, finished all day at college, yeah. But we've had to tell him to um fill up your car with fuel because there's there's no fuel in Penzance, apparently. Um the uh the hoarding has started. Uh so Morrison's and Tesco are without fuel, so the partners queues galore on the mainland. Um you you won't know about this, but people go to petrol garages.

SPEAKER_00

Um I mean I'm just you can you can just feel I'm sure you can hear in my voice me get elevated as I'm looking down upon the minions in an EV as I sit there and go, What's what's this problem you're having? Two two pounds what? No, no, it it means nothing to me. Um, yes.

SPEAKER_03

Um so on on the islands here, we're up at two pounds fifteen a litre.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

It's not funny, is it? It's not even fun. I'm not even gonna follow the comments on that.

SPEAKER_03

It's not. I was chatting about it in the in the golf club after after to uh the the round today, and uh a guy came in, he's like, it's just cost me 146 quid. I said, Jesus Christ, you know, we only got nine miles of road.

SPEAKER_00

And and that's it, and yet you still push back against EVs still because somehow they're really bad and they're getting the salt air and something 146 quid. Oh my, I'm feeling sick of my stomach.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, and and and we we Fran mentioned it the other day. She said, This this is not going to be good here. Um because already uh not only is it you know it's quite expensive to get here. I mean, as you well know, it's expensive to get here. Um and companies are now uh and I'm sure they're do not in the mainland, they're putting a fuel surcharge on it. So we were chatting to one freight delivering company who's got a 20% fuel surcharge on top of their prices. Um so we're gonna have that coming soon by the likes of it, and and already for the flights. Um aviation uh fuel has rocketed by all accounts. Um yeah, it's it's a bit diming gluten. I don't want to talk about it too much, but um anyway. Fraser managed to top up his car before he got too far into Cornwall, so uh he's um he's home tomorrow.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, just remember something. I bet there was something he has noticed though, being of that age, the price of booze.

SPEAKER_03

Oh honestly, uh he has he's turned into an old man because he started telling us, like, dad, you know, I'd gone to such and such, and even from toilet roll to veg to whatever shop selling stuff, you wouldn't believe the price of this. I'm like, I do, mate, because I've I bought it and you. used to just chuck fresh stuff out and and remember when you wasted so he's turned into the he's recognising the price of everything now as a student.

SPEAKER_00

The other way around mate in Scotland we pay a surcharge on our alcohol. So a lot of the the the so in England you get all the deals so there's no deals you probably didn't notice when you're up here but if you go to a Morrison's uh whatever at uh Asdra bear um you don't get the same deals that you would do if you're in England where they're trying to uh pump the alcohol into you so the alcohol will be cheaper for him uh uh to buy from a supermarket and you can buy it at eight in the morning whereas in Scotland you can't ah I've forgotten all about that yeah yeah see yeah life on the islands mate life on the highlands who buys alcohol at eight in the morning do you know what you you amusingly you you sit there and think well yes you know who's gonna buy that but if you're off somewhere and you're thinking you go to the shop think I'll just grab this for later they are the times there when you sit there and go shit I can't buy any booze you feel a pseudo slight alcoholic but then you realise that's a genuine reason I need to buy it now because it's for later on or you know you've got a a flight or a a train a train journey to get you know you want to cook crafty birds a cellar exactly you know a long trip and you can't so yeah it's it's surprising it annoys you uh because it catches you out because you're right normal day to day aren't you sat there wandering around Tesla you're used to being sort of uh unrestricted but you might you you'll remember the days of uh Sunday no booze sunday no trading used to be the thing as well when Wednesday half days and I mean I'm not that old mate no that's in the 70s uh I mean I don't know how old you think I am no but you mean all no all day drinking on Sunday is the thing that we remember not there's no drinking I'm not no there was no you you couldn't buy alcohol in the supermarket on a Sunday I remember going to the supermarket it used to be sort of cordoned off with the trolleys the booze section couldn't buy alcohol on a Sunday that was a thing up in Scotland well there you go that was probably in Scotland mate not in England where I lived then uh see see so I'm I that wouldn't surprise me if you can't buy it at whatever time you takes me back that takes me back okay thank you I was gonna work out for you no I can remember the lack of all day drinking on a Sunday because we used to get around it by uh uh what was the place it was called the Shakespeare in uh uh in Plymouth on a Sunday you it would turn into a restaurant and you buy a ticket for a curry you come out the PR and you've been looking for some of the drink you know because it's like finished at three o'clock and you it didn't open again till seven and you thought we're not going back uh so we uh yeah so we um used to um uh you go to this uh dodgy boozer that used to suddenly would see you sell a ticket for food and you could have some half-assed curry and carry on drinking your uh uh K cider so you know hey god was this in Plymouth yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I I I uh I vaguely remember one called the corner house which was like an that was uh an old day you you people would be in there from old corner house as well yeah it was a that's a decent pub that I'm I mean that's mate well where I'm talking about it's a right shit old I mean proper like I mean you know uh yeah you were uh yeah you you had your wits about you're in there um or or that or you were just levered because you'd been drinking all uh all morning in the uh PR. Yeah corner house yeah I remember the corner house yeah it's not a bad booze is that I think that's gone long gone I used to uh uh back in the day you'd uh uh on a Saturday you'd get go go out uh for a shop to get some new civvies uh in Plymouth uh what was the posh place Cody's uh you'd buy uh a new some you know Paul Smith shirt or something and you'd be sat there with your bag and then Ben Sherman yeah and you have a satellite drinking around and then uh you go oh I might just stay out all day and then someone would go back on board you say you go back on board yeah oh do us a favour and you quickly nip into the heads change into your new shirt and then chuck in your sippies and say chuck that on me on the pit when you get back and then you just stay out yeah see I've tried that before and I've lost so many uh bags of shopping like taken them from pub to pub and gone oh fuck I've left that bag of you know rubbish shopping that I had yeah but uh no David God they were the days there were the days anyway I've just um uh when I was uh um scrolling uh through the uh things to watch for the weekend to try and sell it to our man I've got Lee Recommends that should be that should be a section in this week recommends so luckily you've got Amazon Prime because you're gonna watch the McAroy uh documentary in a bit uh just stick it delighted just stick it on mate said a golf song yeah the golf song darling uh uh and uh there's a lot about Rory here yeah he's he's playing well that's why I got him anyway um there's a new film on there it's number two on Prime in the UK it's called Crime 101 I know nothing about it I watched the trailer and it looked good and I went ooh and I thought I know who's gonna want a recommendation Dell's gonna want to know what to watch this weekend.

SPEAKER_03

And there is Crime 101 Amazon Prime I I'm going down to pick up our uh the only takeaway we can get here so the pom tie I'll be getting that this evening and I'll uh come back and I I shall what I and don't take this the wrong way I'm not gonna tell Fran it's recommended for you from you good look excellent idea there mate yeah good I'm glad you did that that's good because she because she because you know what I when when I suggest things she doesn't look at them objectively she just straight away goes well that's a lot of rubbish so her filters are not open yeah and you know it's like no no no watch it and then say it's shit but you know I don't want you to put the filter on it's gonna be shit because if you think that before watching a film it's always gonna be shit yeah you know being a brain so I at the end of it when she says oh that's quite good I will give you the glory and say oh please do please do all and if she doesn't say that just lie mate just say she did I'd just say Anna told Lee to tell you that yeah nice excellent well done uh genius genius like she said anyway so that's uh Lee recommends uh Crime 101 Amazon Prime this weekend I'm looking forward to that we we are um working our way through um I want to say it's not designated person because it's um it's some guy gets the social security numbers of um people who are about to die or potentially uh die um and this ex forces guy is like his um his muscle and goes and tries and changes what's what's supposedly about to happen um I'm not selling it really am I because I can't remember the bloody name of it but it's something like um designated person but but it's not that Google that and and and don't come up with the first one that comes up on Google. It's quite good but it's a bit um a bit far fetched that some guy some super billionaire geek has has developed a system which basically takes all the CCTV and phone taps and everything else that's available in New York and and and it it it can determine um what's about to happen. So he goes and tries help the people that um are about to die basically but it's okay. It's not too bad I'm um I'm not very good. Don't listen to Dale's tips. Well well maybe we'll it'll be a new segment next week but I'll I will I will feed back uh how that crime one on one goes down tonight because that we we will need something to watch and and I say E B's home as well so some it won't be our our normal whatever we're halfway through something person.

SPEAKER_00

So we'll try it's not it's not my normal kind of romantic comedy lighthearted comedy it's a bit of a uh thriller crime but uh you know I was gonna say the title doesn't sound uh rom com no no or you know amusing but um some of the kind anybody famous in it yeah there's a couple of people I don't ask me they are I don't know some people I recognise him oh I know that he's normally good he's all right he's normally good yeah uh Hallie Barry she's in it she's the obviously the eye candy in it um and then famous I thought you'll know the other two Hemenway um Ernest no Chris Hemenway Chris Hemsworth Hemsworth yeah Hemenway's the writer isn't he I've just seen Chris Hemsworth Mark Ruffalo I've seen him in stuff before yeah you would have seen him in stuff yeah Keegan and Halberry Halberry yeah you yeah it looks good mate trust me anyway right um have we got any feedback from our listeners have we got anything back uh how are we doing reviews on Instagram I tell you I'm I've I I've been pretty poor this week I haven't been on it at all um only just as we were about to start a podcast I looked on it and and numbers wise we're doing quite well um it's uh better than I thought it was going to be for the last podcast as they say um Canadias popped back up again um in the last episode is it anything from Digby this week I'm trying to think is he gonna want racing he mentioned it was the last race don't think we have on Instagram he was um I think we we'd put a few posts out but I think there was it was just likes and shares on on various stuff your your golfing shots and um definitely the uh the trout the the new pilot boats was getting some nice likes yeah there's getting some love there's a lot of them there oh I tell you what I uh our first um our first pilotage I might put it on my own podcast uh my own Instagram sorry where um I I do like the uh the the opening theme tune to Baywatch that oh I might not meant I forgot to mention it to you yes I saw that and I thought that's a good choice yeah yeah I liked it immediately yes but uh no uh in terms of uh no feedback but so the the people are listening but there's nobody home uh or they're not yeah carefully uh Elgin up there Fort William yeah Milton Dalton they're getting suckered in with the Highlands think oh he must be a Scottish chap there in the Highlands oh no no he's got he's got a six twang what's he doing talking about the islands and the Highlands are bloody faker um and um this guy coming up here kill killing a fish uh and I tell you what I haven't I'm not gonna lie to you no one's DM'd me from San Diego I'm slightly disappointed with that I I won't lie I'm slightly because we we we milked that a bit on the hashtags and stuff but we did somebody somebody's gonna to hit a ping back so come on San Diego you you I don't want to call you out on this but come on up you getting I'm not gonna lie to you the whole of America just anyone in America I think they're all yeah they're being brainwashed by somebody exactly orange over there at the moment so um they they can um well it'll come it'll come I hope I hope yes yes yeah well soon because I need to put the hotel soon so uh yeah um we'll give it we'll give it a give it another week um are you oh did you see um sorry we're talking each other which is really professional good of us but Vic um he put out another post about his um uh yacht he's um obviously as a painter and decorator he's doing it himself isn't he his DY and his D and his uh uh and his um is there no is there no end to this man's talents uh I mean in other words um I'm gonna throw it out there he's making well yeah it's I think he might be doing round the world I've just made that up but uh you know if if he is I wouldn't be surprised he's just gonna get that yacht go up from scratch and then just go you know what I'm going for going for a walk or maybe sometime just say around the world Vic Vic's round the world cruise sponsored by Highlands to Islands exactly get some stickers on that boat get some stickers on that boat get the stickers on the boat and and tell him that he has to stop at San Diego.

Yes yes he can use my uh navigation routes if he's he's unsure to get there don't worry yeah as long as you go across the Pacific twice uh yeah he's fine yeah yeah yeah well yeah it'd be read it reads so yes I saw that he's a beauty um I think he was away I think he was away on holiday but um um where was he I can't remember now but uh he was away for a bit I'm I haven't seen him um round um I don't even know the blank mate I'm just stalking him on uh Instagram what can I say that's the kind of person I am I mean hopefully I'll get to meet him when I come in the summer but you know you well we'll make sure that he he he he listened it was about a week or two ago because he was shouting down I was still he was running I was who was he was running through the street and we were shouting up said hoping hope you listen to the podcast he went I'm listening to it now as he as he went so I thought he looked sad well I mean because we're good eggs like that I think we can almost give a bit of a break on his uh run today because we're we're literally reaching that time now so uh uh any final thoughts uh before you I was just gonna ask you about plans for Easter really we uh you must be on Easter holiday Bob's up there yeah um nothing mate the weather has just uh decimated any barbecue in this weekend yeah so literally I think I might try and get out again before the storm hits us um and then Saturday evening Sunday's a bit of a write off and then I'm going fishing Monday I think uh one of my fishing buddies is taking me out so uh yeah we'll just see like that it's I always feel a bit more confident when I've got someone who knows what the fuck they're talking about uh around me look forward to the fish photographs on Instagram yeah normal rules rise up uh uh rules apply if uh there are no photos don't ask me any questions uh what happened to your friend why is he vanished exactly how about yourself uh in fact yes sorry look look at this we're awful list we we're we listeners we do have a script believe it or not uh somewhere somewhere along there the good segue with uh so what am I doing because then I asked you what are you doing on Sunday dinner and then uh you got people coming around on Sunday and yeah I I shall be cooking for nine people uh on Sunday yeah um when I say I I mean Fran and I will maybe you know stir something in the pot therefore I have cooked it um off the wine get around front of house mate front of house oh I I tell you what and Fraser pulled a blinder because he when he was in Gibraltar over Christmas he had brought back uh one of the best bottles of red we'd ever ever tasted um so whilst he was he went up to college um he had got in touch with the the shop in Gibraltar um and ordered another two bottles which took about three weeks to get here but they're here so we might sample them on on Sunday we've got um nine people around we've got Jules and Ewan uh John and Margaret Fraser will be home Ellen's home Harry's obviously here uh me and Fran and the the bloody dog um the dog makes it ten uh fair enough no uh full full house uh this Easter Sunday which will be great I'm looking forward to that um we've got a ridiculous size uh rib of beef from Fran went down to I think um our local butcher is Fran's number one fan so he makes sure that she's sorted out with the the right the right food for our meals um Mr B pulled a blinder and it's taken up half the fridge is a half a fucking cow in there nice so nice food nice wine nice company um yeah should be a lovely lovely night uh before we go I mean I don't really want to ask this question but I take it you played uh uh uh customs and uh exile uh duty for that uh uh wine that you got delivered from uh the uh from Gibraltar do you need to do it from Gibraltar? Well it's tax-free mate uh there there is a there is a um just just say yes and then we move on yes absolutely uh and when they come to look for it there'll be no evidence uh it's an empty bottle what why you're talking about yeah it never good well i'll I'll I'll get a photograph of it for you um and if there's two bottles so if I'm I'm being a bit stingy I might just try one because after one bottle they can call them Chuplanc after that it's a good way of doing business mate to be honest it's a good way of doing business yeah try and keep try and keep the try and keep the other bottle for when you arrive.
