Dale updates Lee on the new pilot boat that has arrived in the Islands and Lee gives Dale the low-down on how to use a smoker. DIY, fishing, BBQs, birthdays, getting lost and free electricity are all discussed in the brothers-in-law weekly catch up on Highlands2Islands.

SPEAKER_01

Welcome to Highlands to Islands. I'm Lee, chatting to you from the Highlands.

SPEAKER_03

And I'm Dale, living life here on the Isles of Scilly.

SPEAKER_01

Each week we'll swap stories from the Highlands to the Islands, local news, DOI disasters, barbecue bragging, golf frustrations, and all weird and wonderful stuff that fills our weeks.

SPEAKER_03

Basically, it says two brother-in-laws having a laugh, trying to one-up each other, and bringing you along for the ride.

SPEAKER_01

So, grab a cupper or a pint. Oh. And let's jump into today's episode. Dell, what's been happening today on the docks?

SPEAKER_03

Uh this week, all about the John Guy. All about our new shiny uh awesome pilot boat, which um we've been out uh putting through its paces. Is that your beer opening there?

SPEAKER_01

It was, yeah, yeah. It wasn't a can this time.

SPEAKER_03

Uh grab a cupboard or a pint or some diluting juice.

SPEAKER_01

Dilutant juice, yeah, maybe, yeah. Go on, sorry, John Gly.

SPEAKER_03

So uh we've been out uh putting it through its paces this week. So quite a bit of uh staff practice. They've been out in the boat, uh practicing, coming alongside start-up shutdown procedures. Um and the Grime Maritha, the freight boat, made a rare appearance this week. Um, so we went out and did some practice with that, and we um uh bit of pirating me, yeah?

SPEAKER_01

You'd board in practice and get you out.

SPEAKER_03

They had a ladder down, so we thought, oh, flat sided enough, we'll do some pilotage practice with them. So that was they were good as gold, actually. It was great, it was good practice for us.

SPEAKER_01

And you got you got dibs on your car boarer first, I take it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh dibs on freight that comes out, yeah. But yeah, make sure it's there before you come alongside.

SPEAKER_01

But no, it's no get some fresh milk.

SPEAKER_03

Just this. Um uh what else? Uh and then we went out uh with the RNA to do some training with them, and that that was brilliant, I have to say. That was good footage.

SPEAKER_01

I did see the footage, it did look very impressed.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think Archie Hicks, to be fair, I think a lot of it was his footage. Um yeah, it was it was epic. Um, just um doing some manoeuvring with them alongside, uh, man overboard drills, uh towing exercise, uh having a chance to have a look around each other's boats.

SPEAKER_01

So um uh yeah, it's uh uh say for uh uh this question isn't for me, obviously, but for all the kids out there, did you ever race? Uh yes, we did.

SPEAKER_03

And we won.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, that's all they here. Boom, that's what we want.

SPEAKER_03

Uh there was a bit of controversy over the win, but a win's a win. Um exactly.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, fortunately, they're not on this podcast, so basically, whoever writes history wins.

SPEAKER_03

So uh, yeah, I believe that we were home first on the moons in the boat back ashore. Um, no, they they uh I think they were itching up on us, um, but they lost a fender over the side, um, you know, day one, week one. Late schoolboy era.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. Then to be honest, you know, I'd I'd question whether they should be in the lifeboat if they're not tying up fenders correctly. You know, today starts to offender, next we know it's a hatch, and next we know, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Rick rookie, rookie error. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so they they had to turn around and go and collect their fender. So the race was fair enough. I think they called it null and void, we called it a great victory.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah, yeah, 100%.

SPEAKER_03

But no, the exercise, the training itself was was superb, and and I have to say a big thanks to them. It was great, and hoping that we can pick that up uh throughout the summer, whether it's once a month or or you know, just something regular that we can get involved in with uh uh local RNLI boat here. It's um it's useful for us, and you know, in the past we have um assisted them, so it's it's it's useful for them should they need us in a uh second or third backup. Um there's a potential for us to to assist where we can. So no, this week's all about the boat, really. It's been awesome. I uh and other boats or more ships actually. The new steamship freight boat has set sail from Vietnam. Um and it's the correct way. Well, who's who knows? 72 days.

SPEAKER_01

So maybe they maybe they were listened to me and said, Oh, look, we we've heard Lee is we want to go the other way across the Pacific. And then the Panama. I mean, they could stop in San Diego if they went Pacific way, couldn't they? You know, which is always a bonus.

SPEAKER_03

But um, no, 72 days. So they've they've set sail, and I think the Salonian 4 is now in the dry dock area for um um for manoeuvring, well not maneuvering for for for their next set of um uh additions and and building bits and outfitting.

SPEAKER_01

So uh okay, cool, yeah. So yeah, that'd be an interesting drive back, wouldn't it? Are they going uh I take it they're going long way around as in uh uh um below Africa and around that way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is that I can't remember. What's the Cape of Good could open it? Is that could happen or Cape of Oh, I can't remember, you know. I might have to get a uh map out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, whenever I hear that, I always think of Cape Fear and that film, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Good film, that in fact. Yeah, it's a classic. Yeah, no, you said that yeah, uh underrated, yeah. Well, it was say underrated, it wasn't, it's a bloody good film.

SPEAKER_03

Uh awesome, awesome. Um, yeah. So but uh an answer to your question that is uh Cape of Good Hope. Um south south of the boat. You were you were correct, it was never in doubt, Lee.

SPEAKER_01

Never in doubt, never in doubt. Well, I've been sea for a while, so you had to check. Talking of sea, just quickly whilst I jump in there. Have you seen our uh uh one of our uh uh influences out there sailing away?

SPEAKER_03

Um Tink P, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, I just posted a picture out there, he's got his merch on the back there. Nice to see, nice to see.

SPEAKER_03

Nice to see chasing him, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, exactly. Yeah, sent us a message. I mean, I could ham it up and said, I think he's I think he's in the lead, but he's far more honest than that to lie. Uh, but uh he's uh yeah, he's out there. I think it's the last final weekend, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So he's uh uh uh so hopefully we get a mention in his in his victory speech uh awards ceremony that he'll be attending and all that.

SPEAKER_01

There was no racing because it's too windy, so it's nice to see it's bloody wind in there because it's too windy here.

SPEAKER_03

I'll tell you fresh here as well.

SPEAKER_01

I do my nutting. I tell you, I'm gonna have to pick an indoor hobby because currently I was just like, what am I doing this weekend? I'm gonna go fishing, golf. Well, I looked at the weather and it's one minute it's it was hailing and sleeting at 50 miles an hour. Next thing there's uh sun coming out, and I'm like, Oh, I was like, Jesus Christ. So I don't know if you've seen on my one of my on the ground when I've been uh uh uh barbecuing uh yeah smoking, got some uh beef ribs, uh dining.

SPEAKER_03

So say what was it? What are you smoking? Beef ribs then.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, beef ribs. They normally come in like three or four uh bones those, but I think Anna just got the whole rack. Um so it's it's yeah, literally, I think it's been on the go at the moment for I'm looking at my timer now, five hours. Half a cow five hours, and I've just wrapped it, and uh um so that's now gonna uh probably need another two to three hours. Well, that's what Anna's open for. I'm like, it's ready when it's ready, so uh yeah, tea tonight.

SPEAKER_03

Midnight, midnight dinner tonight. Is it it's not Ramadan, is it? It's really you know, you're allowed to eat before the sun goes down right now.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, god.

SPEAKER_03

You I think what's gonna have to happen, mate, is you're gonna have to get up earlier to start doing this.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it was what I've got I've got a new barbecue book um and uh uh Genevieve, I forgot her name, it's great, it's a great barbecuer, and uh she had some stuff on there, and I was just like, oh, and then I and then I went to the gym this morning and then I went shopping. And then oh, what did you do in the gym? Uh just back back to the weights. Um I've been too busy at work, so I've managed to get it in work time at the moment, so yeah. So uh, but luckily all things have uh calmed down there, so it's alright. So I'm now back on track. So uh yes, what are these uh smalling chest um and tries, I think. Yeah. Uh anyway, yeah. So she called me to say uh well just a selection of meat, and I went, oh that'll do. I'll smoke that, and then by the time we got around to getting on the Barbie, I was just like, shit. And me uh my little meter probes um that tell me the temperature was like giving me a four-hour cook time. I was like, oh, this is gonna be fun. So it's now wrapped, it's got to stay there again and get up another what's it 70 degrees now.

SPEAKER_03

So it's got a when you say you're smoking them. What what are you smoking? What what wood chips or whatever flavouring wood pellets.

SPEAKER_01

So I'm using the Traeger. Have you seen the Traeger's wrapped in Europe here? Yeah, but it's uh it's a pellet smoker, so yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I saw it on your picture today.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. So uh it's pellets um that you put in that. So I forgot what flavour pellets that was on there, either hickory, something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whiskey, yeah. Uh and then uh so I topped that up. Um that should I might have to check that when I finish the podcast and make sure there's still enough in there.

SPEAKER_03

Um does that go on this sorry, I'm I'm doing a bit of a uh idiot here. So when you put that in there, is that under charcoal as well? And no, no. No, so it's literally just been smoked.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's a bit uh hot smoke. So the the pellets are kind of yeah, what yeah, so the the the there's an ignition in there, and it just because they're wood, remember they are wood, uh the pellets, so it's like a a small wood fire that is producing, and then there's a an auger that pushes through the pellets uh constantly. Uh depend on it's obviously temperature dependent, so it's added more wood, but they're wood pellets. Um, so it's um that obviously heat uh and smoke from the wood pellets is what's cooking your uh meat or smoking the meat.

SPEAKER_03

It doesn't cook the meat, it just puts a smoky flavour through it.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's hot. No, it's smoke, so it's temperature-wise. Um well you set it what you want to. I mean, at the moment I've got a in fact annoying the internet. In fact, I'll just because obviously uh everything's connected to the internet, so I've set it to um what temperature is 106 degrees at the moment. Oh we go, 112, 114 degrees. Uh so that's what it's been set to Celsius. Um, but it'll go all the way up to 250. Um, so it'll get hot. It just it obviously just pumps uh more wood through there.

SPEAKER_03

So in that auger thing that's going and putting that what is that on a spring, is it, or is it electric?

SPEAKER_01

Probably, yeah. Yes, electric. Yeah, it is electric, it is electric because I plug it in and it's got uh and it's got Wi-Fi. So I'm I'm sat in a spare room looking at my growth. That's one of the reasons I kind of went, oh, how am I gonna cook this? I thought, what's the easiest, you know, no hassle? And the Traegers are no-brainer for that when it comes to smoking, it's literally just fire and forget, whack of probing, and then away you go.

SPEAKER_03

If you do it two days in advance, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean, I still in fairness. I've I went out, took Ted's out for his haircut and whatnot, and was checking the temperature uh whilst I was out.

SPEAKER_03

I want to ask about that in a minute, but before we change it, um and uh with your ribs, what so I've I'm asking these questions because I want to do something like this in the summer. So yeah, you get you got your ribs. You uh what are you um basing them in or um yeah?

SPEAKER_01

Uh to talk you through the whole procedure. So we're on beef ribs.

SPEAKER_03

Remember, we've only got an hour's podcast.

SPEAKER_01

So well, uh in the brief description, we are in there, we do talk about barbecuing, so you know, and we have got an American follower, so they they will be interested in the detail.

SPEAKER_03

San Diego will be waiting to hear.

SPEAKER_01

Whoever's gonna let me use the house may say, you know, if you come around and uh barbecue for us, then you can use the house to free. Um, so so for beef, um I put some you know the old yellow mustard American mustard?

SPEAKER_03

Oh hot dog mustard.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that stuff, yeah. So that's it that's a binder. So you you basically uh pad it dry, depending on where you got it, and then uh you just rub it uh with that. So that's complete uh with that, and that just helps the um black gold is what I use today, which uh which is the um rub. Um so I just covered it from uh uh all around in the uh it's basically salt, pepper, and garlic uh rub. So gave it to that, so just so rub it with the mustard, yeah. Rub uh then the powdered stuff and salt and pepper. Salt and pepper and garlic, and then uh whack it in there. Uh the got the uh the barbecue up to temperature before we're gonna be able to do it.

SPEAKER_03

So wrap it up or anything, but tend to well, yeah, so good and nice.

SPEAKER_01

We're getting a bit A-level here, so we won't go so it's now been smoked uh for the best part of four to five hours. Um, and now I've wrapped it in in butcher's paper. Um butcher's paper, depending on what you're trying to achieve, versus uh um aluminium foil, aluminum, uh aluminum for your San Diego listeners. Um so yeah, butcher's uh uh butcher's paper today. Uh so what that does, that ensures the bark, which I've uh been created by smoking it, and you've got that nice layer of uh um salt, pepper, and garlic on there. It it allows it to almost breathe a little bit, so it takes in the temperature and breathes. If you was to use tinfoil around it, it obviously couldn't breathe, so it would go um, it would almost be steamed, um and all that moisture would be trapped in there. So you want some of the moisture to kind of slowly ease out. So hopefully, in about two, three hours time when I pick it out there. That butcher's paper I've got um will be bripping with uh the continual fat from the uh um ribs, and then we'll put it out, and then I know I'll still go, Oh, is it ready? And I'll go, No, no, no, don't it need some uh it needs to rest now for a couple hours. She'll lose a couple of hours. Well, an hour is probably good. I mean, it's been it's been in there for a long time. You know, you think that meat's been in there.

SPEAKER_03

Well you need to rest it, so that's what leaving it out in the kitchen just on its own wrapped up, or do you do you then wrap it in tin foil to keep the heat?

SPEAKER_01

Wow, so now we're getting to the level. So you know me in a good gadget, and I do like the and I'm a bit of a label snob, so you could use any kind of cooler, but uh this is where you get the uh Yeti cooler. Yeti. I knew you were gonna mention uh get that out, and in there I've got my wrapping, I've got my towels, food towels, so it'll get wrapped. Food towels. Well, they're basically old bath towels.

SPEAKER_03

Um but um I th I think there's a selling point there, so it probably add to everybody's barbecue gadgetry food food towels.

SPEAKER_01

So I will preheat the uh uh cooler with uh just get some boiling water kettle, chuck it in there, um, and that just gets it to a decent temperature. Um leave that in there for a bit, and then when I'm ready, empty the water out, dry it, dry it out, and of course it's kept that residual heat in there, um, and then wrap my meat and then leave her in there. And then whenever I'm ready to eat tomorrow for breakfast, uh we can uh be ready for uh beef ribs.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you'll be like, Do you know what? I'm not hungry now.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I reckon so, yeah. I reckon if someone gets their hands on the peanuts and the uh crisps, they'll be filling up on that uh for a couple hours to come, yeah. So yeah.

SPEAKER_03

As you were mentioning that, so and then one more question. When you say you're gonna wrap it again, would wrap it in butcher's paper for the Yeti or wrapping it in tinfoil for the Yeti?

SPEAKER_01

I will wrap it in um, I'll probably just put it depending on how wet it is. Um I'll probably just keep it in the um wrap it in towels, they'll get washed afterwards. Um and then that just make sure. And I fill it with uh I kind of like fill all the air space. So I've got loads of the yeti's full of uh my food towels. Uh um, so I'll just make sure.

SPEAKER_03

Anna's been wondering where the fucking bath towels have been going.

SPEAKER_01

So last time last time you stayed here and you had those lovely uh uh the reason I actually got I got sent out literally an hour before you arrived to get some towels was because uh we'd run out because I'd used them all.

SPEAKER_03

Have you said to her when we left that they must have taken those towels off?

SPEAKER_01

Exactly, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You've collared another two for the exactly, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

For the yeti get them in there, yeah. So anyway, um, so that's how you smoke, that's how I smoke the ribs anyway. So it's a it's a it's a you know.

SPEAKER_03

I'm impressed, mate. I and I'm well I've never sampled any of this yet, not even when we were up there.

SPEAKER_01

So no, we didn't get the didn't get uh and it it is simple. I mean, we literally the meat came in there, and uh the the longest thing was we had to do was I didn't clean it out properly last time we used it. So um um within half an hour of some meat arriving, I would it was already at an hour.

SPEAKER_03

I've just googled this as you were as you mentioned that what the hell is about meat preparation, proper preparation ensures moisture retention and flavour. Brining wet or dry brine helps me retain the internal moisture.

SPEAKER_01

Do you have do you do that? So I'm loving you bringing this up, mate. So normally I would have to do it.

SPEAKER_03

I'm keen because I want to get something out there.

SPEAKER_01

If I had a uh if I had a uh time and we didn't get that meat, what I would have done is I would have put that um uh the mustard and then the um rub on and then left it in the fridge for the night before. Uh and and I do recommend it for any listeners that are doing their any steaks, um, the same thing, just get some salt, um pour it over your steak, um, and then put it in the fridge and leave it for as long as you can before you chuck it the barbecue. Now, you're about to say, but what about room temperature? Ignore that shit, right? Ignore that, you do not need room temperature in meat. It's a like what you're trying to look for, you're looking for a chemical reaction on the meat, and then you want this dry brine on there, and then as soon as you put that um C or meat with the way I just mentioned there with a dry brine, it will be you'll get a lovely uh kind of um bark on there, and it'll be absolutely delicious and it'll be juicy.

SPEAKER_03

I have um I do follow um the uh what's it the the um the foodie guy or whatever he's called um on Instagram and he does that with his steaks, he dries them off, salts them, uh puts them in the fridge.

SPEAKER_01

Honestly, you can't you can't go wrong. And uh um I got it.

SPEAKER_03

Do you put that through the do you do steaks through the smoker or just I don't think so?

SPEAKER_01

Uh I don't think if I was if I was doing uh um uh steak, I would uh I'd do it as you would traditionally say. So either a reverse sear or just a normal sear, depending on the size.

SPEAKER_03

I've just uh found something else that you'll be able to uh Guinevere Taylor.

SPEAKER_01

That's the woman you want to follow. Guinevere Taylor, she's uh Britt. Um she's just released a new book uh book, uh in fact, which I have bought, uh How to Barbecue. Highly recommend it. She's got a great collection of books, and she she breaks all of her books, break it down. If you're into the geeky, want to know the science behind it. She talks about the reasons why you want to do the routine I did, and if you don't, just do it and then just uh use her recipes, and you can't go wrong. Her latest book's even better. So there you go.

SPEAKER_03

Islands to Islands, sponsored by Guinnaville Taylor. That'd be that'd be a great collab, I'm not gonna lie to you. I've just found something else. I'm not gonna ask you about it. I've just been because cold smoking.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yes, a bit more challenging that.

SPEAKER_03

So a couple of ways without cooking, it says.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, so think like cheeses and stuff, cured meats, bacon, smoked. You can get a little kit, you can get a kit for cold smoking. Effectively, it's almost a candle.

SPEAKER_03

I've got one outside in the garage. I can't believe it. Um, John um gave us it years ago because he never used it, it's still brand new. Um, it was for um um mackerel smoking mackerel.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, cheese. You can smoke your cheese in there. Really? Um, yeah, yeah. I've one of the guys I've uh work with, he's uh he's a uh big he uses his barbecue, but uh use that smoking kit you got there and just put it inside the barbecue, and you light it's almost a candle, uh, just that keeps the smoke coming on, and then you're just using that smoke you're generating. Um you can there there are some contraptions you can make yourself, and effectively you um uh pipe, you have uh something to smoke in, and then you just uh run a hose from that um into a uh into your device from your exhaust pipe, it literally is exactly that. That's the analogy. You have you you know you create a fire with smoke, and then you have a pipe uh from there into your box, and in that box you smoke it, but yeah, so it's you'd be yeah, I mean you think where you are now, you could probably get a um an old um wardrobe or something put outside, and then you can hang your fish, and then you'd have your smoker next to it, and then you could pipe in smoke from one end, and it would slowly uh um that's kind of yeah, if you were to Google it and go into that with if you were to cold smoke stuff anyway.

SPEAKER_03

I wouldn't I wouldn't do it with any of the stuff we've been burning. There'll be no hint of hint of plastic and that mate. Hint of rubber tire. Uh oh well, very good. I'm quite quite good. And and to be fair, the sun is as windy as hell here, but the sun is shining, so I'm starting to think uh ahead a bit more of uh you got in there, yeah. We we've got a guy uh lined up um uh for coming to do the patio, or as we like to call it, the patio.

SPEAKER_01

Nice.

SPEAKER_03

Um uh so patio um operations in the next week or two. So um the the Anna's gin deck will be ready.

SPEAKER_01

Good, ready, best it is.

SPEAKER_03

That that that's uh the the price. Area getting that done. We've had a I think I mentioned last week we had a Sparky here last weekend. He's finished. All the house is um electrically done, signed. Certified. Certified, got a certificate, and never think. Happy days. So that was that was good news. And so the highlight for me was the garage being wired, and we've been out today. We've done Fran and I have done some DIY together. Challenging. We are still talking, uh we're still married. Um I think as I spoke to you earlier, two doors taken off, uh readjusted, sanded, a bit of uh um uh uh oil on on the the bottom of one of the doors um and then re-hung uh oh like a dream like an absolute dream uh and we put a shelf up in the garage as well and I hung up all the battery chargers for the um the um the DeWalt tools, hand tools, drills, and all that malarkey.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, cool.

SPEAKER_03

Nice satisf satisfying when you know you you got those two screws to put in to to marry up the holes for something to hang on. Um satisfying when that that uh that works. Um used a bit of uh masking tape on the back of them just to stick that on the wood and drill through the mask and tape. Yeah, classic. Uh so yeah, a new shelf in the garage. Uh uh digging out a few bits, trying to get rid of a few bits, uh selling stuff for sale on silly, um stuff that we'll never use again. Roll of lead. Um I don't know how how how handy a roll of lead is in the back, not in the back pocket, but in the back of the garage.

SPEAKER_01

Well, if if you were building your cold smoker, that'd make a nice roof for it, mate. It's all I'm saying.

SPEAKER_03

Well there's all sorts of bits out there, but no, uh DIY-wise, it's been it's been quite a nice day today here. Um more more pleasing is uh pop down, grab a couple of brackets, check a shelf up, put stuff up on the shelf, and just stand back and look at it for the next half hour going. Yeah, I like that. Um did you use a laser to make sure it was uh I nearly got the laser out, but you didn't use a laser? No, we're gonna get the uh the six-foot level out though, to uh that was uh that and uh and a sharpie pen uh was was all we needed. Um so that's on the back wall. And I'm gonna buy I've seen on Tinter Web, it's the same, you know, like DeWalt batteries where they connect in. It's like the battery connection, but you screw them up onto the wall so you can hang your. I've seen they might be crap, I don't know, but it it works on the uh advert I saw online, so it must be great.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I know what you mean. Yeah, they're just the they're the mal part of the um is that right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's right.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so once they've charge, you then put them in, you just hang them up onto yeah, I've seen those, yeah. It's appeared in my uh as a fellow DIYer, uh it's appeared on my uh uh stream.

SPEAKER_03

So it's quite weird because I haven't done we haven't done anything for a while in terms of building any little bits or or little bits of drilling, screwing, um taking stuff down, sanding. Uh all the DeWalt tools out today, and I made an effort of making sure all the batteries were charged up for no reason other than I can.

SPEAKER_01

Um good practice, mate. Good practice.

SPEAKER_03

I just sat there staring at what haven't I got? What do I need? Yeah, I could possibly do with this. But yeah, I had the the laser was there, and I was like, oh thought it's probably we could put a shelf up without the laser, I'm sure.

SPEAKER_01

You know what's the most annoying thing I've noticed a laser, the laser though. I haven't got a decent tripod, so I'm forever trying to balance it on something without a tripod.

SPEAKER_03

Neither have I. So it's got a magnet plate. So, but then there's nothing metal because everything's wood. You're like, fuck's sake. And balancing it on you know, um bits of kitchen roll or well, I've had I had a big shelf towels, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But exactly, yeah, it was. We sat there, the uh it was sorry, it wasn't bath towels, it was the um a shelving unit, uh like a standalone shelving unit in the bathroom. And then I'm on top of that, because it wasn't the right, then I got loads of books and kept just sticking up books until I got to the right level, and actually, like, no, no, no, not that hard back and a softback now, just to get the perfect height, and then of course it wasn't, it wasn't it was in fairness though, it was genius because when you need to make those fine corrections, you just open the book. Rip out the last five pages, you don't rip out, they obviously open, and then you've got a you know a little level there, so it was you know oh, very good. That was impressive.

SPEAKER_03

I I to be fair, Fran and I work quite quite well at DIY. We've we've done we've done loads over the years. Um, and we were chatting about it earlier today. About um the hardest thing we did was um Harry's it's like one of those captain's beds with the uh the bunk up top, but underneath was a desk unit, but also underneath was a like a double um wardrobe and and shell um drawer unit. And honestly, mate, I mean this thing came it must have been an Arctic lorry, the number of boxes that came off. Umstructions, Galore. Um and we managed to build that. Um but when you build it, you can build it a certain way. Right. So depending on where it sits in the room, which end is the is the cupboard gonna be? Because one end of the bed is like the cupboard, the other end is like a support, and underneath is a desk and and all the other stuff. And so we built it. And then of course, about a few months later, I had to come down because we wanted to we uh wanted to change the room around. Yeah, and we had to rebuild it, and it's and it's fucking heavy. Um, but we thought we won't dismantle it, I'll just stand with it on my shoulders or on my head, um, as as Fran uh probably popped down for a coffee and and read the Daily Mail or something, and then come back up to oh, yeah, he's still there. All right, we'll put the wardrobe underneath the other side. That was that was the most testing day of DIY together ever. Um so we we got through that, and that was I don't know what the uh difficulty rating is on Nike, like with the Land Rover Haynes manuals, like the Spanners thing, that must be a screwdriver. That was like a six screwdriver job. That was epic, um but still talking. Although I'm sure she's got it in for me today. Um, she's basically rugby tackled me in the uh in the hall earlier. I was I was stood there trying to put my shit. We're gonna take the dog out. You know, when somebody just walks into you and goes, Oh, sorry. I said, proper elders like Jesus Christ, am I in the way? I'm I'm stationary and you've hit me. And then we got back from the walk, actually. I was stood in the doorway, uh, and she walked past me and basically headbutted me in the side of my ear. And I thought she'd done it on purpose. I what the fuck are you doing? But her ankle had given way, and she she rolled over on her ankle, but basically used me as the uh the pillow, um, head first. Bang. It's like twice in one day. Um, but she's got a sore ankle, so yeah, yeah. Let her off.

SPEAKER_01

And she's and she'll be listening.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, yeah, good point. Yeah, excellent job on the doors. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

In fact, I think they're ever in private podcasts at the moment. I'd uh I did hear in the background as we started this.

SPEAKER_03

I'm sure it should be called the wives fact tech.

SPEAKER_01

I've moved room so Anna can't hear the podcast this time. Last time I did it was in the uh in the same room since she was listening. Yeah, she was grassing on me, I think.

SPEAKER_03

So uh that's not true, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. She was already texting Fran on pointers to look for to give me abuse for, but yes.

SPEAKER_03

Is she uh is she all all set for um for the masters? Because she's basically going to be sat next to you and having um after a hip replacement.

SPEAKER_01

Honestly, it's I timing's perfect. She's like, Yeah, you can leave me on the Thursday. I've gone to the diaries and you can pick me up on the Friday. And I've looked and gone, that's day one of the masters, you fucking beauty. So the night one, I can listen to it with no one here. Uh night two, and I've but I said, Anna, you need to rest, darling. You you get straight to bed when you come back. You can just uh I said I might get a takeaway for you. I'll I'll be cooking, so it'll be a takeaway on there.

SPEAKER_03

Um excellent. Are you she's not pre-cooking the meals? Well, she is she is pre-cooking, but if you um put the spots on it, it should be ready by the time she's reached.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well Anna does the sides, you see, so it's you know, you you know how the but the the the lore of barbecue goes. I don't know. I just do the uh the uh the the meat, but all the work's actually done by Anna um in the background.

SPEAKER_03

So Fran Fran would be there. So what what salad are you having with that? What vegetables? Nuns. Um so I imagine you'll be uh uh using uh salad from your garden. Um what have you got growing out there?

SPEAKER_01

Uh nothing at the moment. I don't think she's put anything in.

SPEAKER_03

Oh no, I'm gonna get get on to that.

SPEAKER_01

And we're in northeast Scotland, mate, so uh we'll remember we're about two months behind you uh temperature-wise. Um so yeah, nothing will go in. In fact, it was snowing earlier on, mate. So you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_03

Well, you you you're just gonna have to build a greenhouse, mate.

SPEAKER_01

And uh donuts on I know that's on the list somewhere.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but uh oh just get one from Costco, ready built helicopter in.

SPEAKER_01

Helicopter. Are you ready for uh the clocks going forward tomorrow?

SPEAKER_03

No, and you just reminded me that I said to Fran we're gonna have to go to bed at seven o'clock uh to to allow for this extra hour on a Sunday morning.

SPEAKER_01

Mate, but guess what? The sun doesn't set then until eight o'clock for the rest of the year.

SPEAKER_03

I I do like it, but I'm I I have been enjoying getting to bed early over these last couple of weeks. Like I think last week there was even a quarter to nine. I was like, I've filmed bad. Uh I feel bad, I feel tired. I'm just gonna have a light. And that was it, gone. And and these last few nights I've been out like a light airpod. Oh, you're talking about airpods. My airpods don't cut off. I end up listening to six other random podcasts as the night goes on as I'm fast asleep. Um, so because I listened to the Chippin forecast, I thought, oh, they'll switch off and I'll just pick up from wherever I fell asleep. No, I've come apparently I've completed it four times.

SPEAKER_01

So the uh uh yeah, the the new well, which which generation have you got? Uh Pro were they?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Pro ones, two or three. I'm sure the Pro Yes a Pro Two, I'm sure the firmware update. Well, certainly the threes do, and I'm pretty sure that was a global firmware update that um picks up when you're asleep, and then uh go from there.

SPEAKER_03

So I I I just probably I I still struggle with my phone, if I'm honest. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

I I I've seen you in tech, mate, for a man who doesn't know how to score on Stableford, uh you've got no chance of you on how to firmware.

SPEAKER_03

Oh but I did get on the golf course this weekend, though with Tim, which was quite good. I tell you what, mate, since since my um my my stint on the range at Glen Eagles, uh my driving, honestly, I um it is it is like McElroy off the T. It's that good. Um it is ballsy cool, mate.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, you went big there.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you just go beggar, go home. The rest of the game, shit, uh it's a classic drive for show putt for dough, but um uh yeah, there's a couple of holes like we played on Friday, and three of the holes I said to Tim again, I say I've never driven the ball this far again on this hole. And it's just absolutely when it hits, absolutely spanking it.

SPEAKER_01

And it's it's that new driver, mate, isn't it? See, maybe it is, yeah, maybe I'm right. Yeah, um who's who knew? Just think if you got a newer one instead of a second hand one, it gave them further.

SPEAKER_03

And a newer putter and exactly. And we looked at those lad putters that we were at Glen Eagles. Yeah, Jesus, they're expensive.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you what you're forgetting about this is if Harry wants to get into golf, he gets your casts, cast over. So he can have the stuff that you've got and you get new stuff. And as you know, as it is he like it's a birthday, okay then, Harry, I'll buy myself the new ping driver and you can have this one. And it goes like that. So you're just gonna so every new driver or set of irons, you're doing Harry a favour, getting invested twice, it's half price, it's two presents.

SPEAKER_03

The theory, the theory works that way, but it's I'll get the new driver putter irons, and Harry will use them. Uh well, yeah, probably. Can I use your clubs, Dad? Oh, Dad, I've just gone over the course. No, he he's still doing a bit of golf. Um, it was his birthday this week, which was really nice. Um 14, Jesus. Um, of course, his uh his present was late, um, so it didn't get delivered due to the freight backlog, but um he got his present today, thankfully.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, cool.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but no, he's uh 14 going on 40, knows everything. Um although rather worryingly, him and his cra he said, Oh, can I can I take some of the wood out of the garage? I said, What? What are you doing? We're we're building a I don't know what they're building. Um God knows, be some um shed or or um that's not a tree house, but uh I don't even know where they're doing it, he won't tell me. But he he disappeared earlier with gloves, some proper some PPE. Uh cool uh and bits of wood and um and in fact now I mentioned it. Now I've got all the tools. I better go and check that all the fucking drill drills are there. Where's all the impact drivers gone? And why is the why is the circular saw disappeared?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm gonna say the drills I wouldn't probably worry about, mate. It's the circular saws and the uh uh what do we call it? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Nail gun.

SPEAKER_01

Nail gun, yeah. They're the big one, but worry, but it's not too much damage you can do with a drill. I mean, there is to your house, but I mean you know, to your hands, etc. Um there's not much, but uh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Cool. I I don't know what they're doing, but um what and what I forgot to mention last week talking about birthdays was um it was Mr. Will Garrett's 50th birthday last week. Um, so happy belated birthday, Will.

SPEAKER_00

Hey he's uh day to you birthday to you. Happy birthday.

SPEAKER_01

What uh 50. He doesn't look 50, does he?

SPEAKER_03

He's still five and oh, five and oh, a young 50.

SPEAKER_01

Young 50. Oh anything any special parties or anything like that to the air for today?

SPEAKER_03

Uh if he did, it didn't invite me.

SPEAKER_01

Well Will, if you're listening, let us know.

SPEAKER_03

If he did, he didn't invite me. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Awkward.

SPEAKER_03

Uh hashtag awkward. Um it was very good though. We got um Ellen to paint a picture of Will when he used to work for the duchy back in the day. Um, and he looked like um one of the early X Factor winners. Uh, you're probably a big fan of his, uh, Matt Cardell. Um nobody'll ever remember him. Uh check out everybody googling who the hell was he won it, but anyway, Will looked like him at one point with his hat that he wore. So I got Ellen to paint the picture of him like that uh on her um a digital painting, but uh we got a card mock-up of him uh Matt Cardell for it for his 50th birthday. Uh and then as what is becoming customary and what Ellen does is um you know, in the back of books you get the um the piece about the author. Yeah we've got Ellen Ellen to do a piece about the artist, but in in a in a pist sort of way, in a funny, comical, you know. Ellen's done this for you know for the family who always ask her to do stuff for free, zero commission, and all of this. But uh really good. It's very clever. I'll send you a picture of it actually.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, feel free to post it on the gram, mate. If he's a listener if it if it appreciates if he's not a listener, well I'll never know, will he? That's the great thing about it.

SPEAKER_03

I um had a panic earlier today. Um I don't know, did I text you? No. Um said the Tesla battery's not working. Oh right. Yeah, that's um that's out of my skill set. Um uh not that many things are in it, but it's uh glorious sunshine, and um of course we had the electrician here the other day and we're looking at the side of the uh the Tesla battery, and there's an isolator switch on, and we're like, should that be on uh the position marked one or should that be on the position marked zero? Um and then we of course Google came to uh to the rescue and YouTube uh and trying to figure out why the battery wasn't charging. And then it also said that we had a problem with the panels um and that we had to troubleshoot and had to log in to various accounts and and it would it would do a an upgrade. But I think through the week we had a bit of fog. Maybe the battery was down at the 10% minimum, and maybe it was trying to do an I think it automatically does these uploads or as you call it, firmware up upgrades. Um and it it might have just lost connection due to a not so great tinter web connection, as you know.

SPEAKER_01

Um so again, to to bore our listeners on the uh woes of solar powers. Have you connected your phone to the power wall? Fran has.

SPEAKER_03

Fran's connected to us, uh, which is which is safer.

SPEAKER_01

Um you can check all that stuff on there, then you'll be able to check the settings, then you'll be able to go to firmware and then uh down that route.

SPEAKER_03

It did that, but it kept coming up saying that anyway, it gives you a process of shutting the system down and then restarting it, but still not knowing whether this bloody isolator was switched off by the electrician or was it should be in the the the gist of it is that after shutting it down and restarting it about three times, it burst back into life after I found a diagram picture of where this isolator should be in the on or off position. Um, and now it's booming in.

SPEAKER_01

Um yeah, someone come in to do something, and rightly so, understandably, or selfishly, depending on which way you look at it, they um turned off the inverter. Uh to protect themselves, how dare they know, yeah, didn't tell us. So when they put it back on, we sat there, it was like it was a glorious sunshine day, and it was like, There's no fucking power! And um yeah, it is uh yeah, it uh selfishly um uh left the uh isolation off. But um no, that was the cool thing back with the gist of it.

SPEAKER_03

It's back up around a bit basically. I feel like I I should work for Tesla now. I'm a Tesla engineer, and if anybody needs any assistance with their Power Wall 3 uh or solar panel units, um happy to give you a shout, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

A surprising list early in the year, how great it is, and you know I don't want to go to smug value, but uh watching the uh fuel uh price at the moment as I'm sat there turning around, giving it fucking what two pounds a uh a litre, whatever.

SPEAKER_03

See it. Um we had the chat earlier in the week about um should we get something for the summer? Um, because the I mean the fuel prices obviously on Silly, it's it's way more expensive than that is in the mainland, so it's bad enough that it's gone up that high in the mainland, but yeah, add on another 50% to us or something, and it's and it's and and it's sunnier.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, you know, we've had this discussion time and time again, uh, but you know, and it's the sunniest part of the country, and yet you're still pushing back on uh oh I'm not sure about that.

SPEAKER_03

Well, the it's more the more the cost and the outlay of uh electric vehicles and and the suitability for uh um salt encrusted environment.

SPEAKER_01

You can drive these things through water, stop listening to the daily mail. Batteries literally are lasting forever now at the moment. I mean, you know, I'm not buying it because I want to save the world. Yes, there are kids digging uh cobalt out of the ground for me to fit into my uh thing. I agree with that. Yes, there I'm not saving it because the CO2 gas is required to build a new um EV or loads, of course they are, but my running costs and all I worry about is that my wage at the end of the month is less. That is the uh piste resistance.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, very true. Well, we I I I floated the idea of an electric quad bike again.

SPEAKER_01

Um yeah, I quite like that idea. That's not bad. I mean, and that and you know, I know they annoy you, and but I think they are a good um um method of transport around the island is uh just get yourself a um electric buggy, yeah. And you can power I mean, you know, if you're driving that around for the day, you don't need to go fast. Um and you can get a suit dump one with uh little spinners and stuff like the proper Florida style ones, so you know you've got your own personal one and then start burning around. And it I mean, because that will you will be able to charge that on the sun, um, and then you are getting free journeys around the house around the uh island.

SPEAKER_03

I could even take that on the golf course, obviously, as well.

SPEAKER_01

Well, obviously, and that's exactly it.

SPEAKER_03

You could sat there, you'd be burning to work, and then you'd take in the drive drive into the golf, drive into the uh car park, mount the curb and straight onto the course.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly, mate. It's a no-brainer now. No brainer, and then uh yeah. I don't know. I mean they are pretty expensive, but to be honest, if it's your mode of transport. Um hey, anyway, um enough said about that. That's uh um you won't you won't regret it, I don't think, when that um certainly certainly there's certainly the amount of sun you got around your place. I mean, Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_03

Well'Cause obviously now we're we're glued to our phones or the iPad. Uh how much uh how much solar has been made? How how much power has been made? How how what's the percentage of the battery? Uh Fran's very good. Maybe we should get another battery then.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I mean financially the um are you chopping those up all the time here?

SPEAKER_03

Um no, only this last so since the sun appeared last week, um yeah, it it's it's managing to to top up. Um but we use it quite quickly.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. And we do, I mean, yeah, basically, I mean, the weather's been poor today, so I'll get the buy it cheap at night and store it. So then that lasts us till 10, 11 o'clock, and it'll depend on what's happening um during the day in the morning, cooking wise and whatever. Uh but if the sun's out, then we'll recharge it, and then I think you know, as you've seen.

SPEAKER_03

Um we've yet to go down the um the smart meter road yet. So that's yeah, I think we'll get our Tinta Web Connection is booked next week, next Wednesday, Thursday. Um but they have sent some bits that they need uh via DPD, so that could be next Wednesday in July.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I'm just gonna let I'm just gonna let you know that you do know that smart meters have got diddly squat to do with internet.

SPEAKER_03

Uh no, sorry, I started talking about it, it just reminded me about the internet. So uh we've yet to do the uh smart meter um installation so that we can um buy seller, yeah. Uh yeah, but we're we're not worrying about that too much. Um, but no, the internet connection next week is booked in uh and hopefully full fiber away you go.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the funny thing the price of um internet is getting that much. Um Starlink, I'm thinking about um there's a couple of Starlink uh terminals I've seen on people's hours around here. I'm tempted to do up Starlink wave.

SPEAKER_03

A few people have got it here actually. Um Rave about it. Very cost-effective, yeah. Even the Salonian 3 have got it on the passenger ferry.

SPEAKER_01

Have they? They should do.

SPEAKER_03

I think so, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I bloody hope so. It's dead and age, it's but it's uh the speeds. I mean, when you're flying, I think when we flew from Doa, uh that it it's all free uh Wi-Fi on there, you sat there and it's all Starlink supplied. So really, yeah, yeah. So no brainer now. Um, I'm gonna have to do a price comparison because I think as those things, uh BT slowly just goes up and up and up in price. You pay it because you need it, but then you um other stuff's out there, so um just need someone to climb on the roof and stick the antenna on the roof. So I'm not going up there.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you could do that, mate. Oh, Anna's gonna have a new hip shortly, she'll be able to run it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, exactly. Get her up there, yeah. In fact, she's got six weeks off after that, so get her up there at some stage.

SPEAKER_03

Right, I tell you what, I I want to see each room repainted, uh redecorated. Don't she would do so. She will make the most of the money.

SPEAKER_01

Get the house painted, get the wood varnished, get the the problem is she will do those things and she can't be moving, so she's gotta st stay on those bloody crutches and uh um do that. I was chatting to someone the other day who got bollocked from uh uh when he got his hip replacement. The uh physio was like, he's like, Oh yeah, I don't need the uh crutches. And the physio went, what the and game of bollocking. He said, Right, go walk for me. And he walked, he went, Yep. He says, You do need him. You've your gate's absolutely screwed. He says you've got to start from scratch, and so you've really got to be on it. So yeah, so she will be bored and she will be uh um doing stuff which she shouldn't.

SPEAKER_03

So are you buying Anna one of those little bells that she can ring to get your attention? Ding lee. I need another bit of tea.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yes, it's it's it's can't hear it, darling. Sorry, I'm deaf.

SPEAKER_03

I should probably buy one of those electric bands or something, it's electrocute you every time she needs to be able to do it. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

That's what she needs to do. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, uh I do fear for her, she's got me and Ted's looking after her, so uh she might not make it though. Be correct, hashtag pray for Anna.

SPEAKER_03

I don't with with Teddy, you reminded me as well because you sent me that picture from um the barber shop or the front they front it as a barber shop. Um cash only cash only. There's yeah, the car machine's not working, mate. Cash only, please, Turkish barbers. Um what what what style did he go for?

SPEAKER_01

Is he is he a medium fade? I think is the word he used. He comes in with his picture and just shows it to the man, says this please, and then it's he's funny, he's good. He's he's had a few um poor haircuts at his time now, which it never goes well. So he the guy that normally does his hair was there but was doing someone else. Um, and so it's like you could see Ted's giving it, Are you getting your hair cut done? I went no, and so he sat down and he gave him the picture and said uh giving me medium f fade, and he said, Uh, how much of a top? I'm not sure if I trust you, nothing. Uh so he went just a little bit, please. And he went afterwards, he said, Yeah, I did I don't trust it. I didn't trust him, he's not my normal barber, so I just got him to do a little bit. I was just like, fair dudes.

SPEAKER_03

Um, yeah, never seen him before, he's just appeared.

SPEAKER_01

He literally, yeah, he just walked across and got uh yeah, exactly. But um, no.

SPEAKER_03

I miss those days, haircuts. Yeah, I don't know what that's all about anymore.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you uh did you for those that are listening? We're doing the podcast on a uh Saturday. We were gonna do it a Friday, but uh uh I went for a walk and then uh my time is where did you get lost? So we there's a um one of the chaps I fish with, he was uh there's a um um I went off today uh yesterday and got me lot um permits, so you need permits in Scotland to fish certain areas, so scandalous, yeah. Well it's yeah, it's not a bad idea. Um but there are obviously areas where you can just fish normally. Uh and um there's a spot on the coast that's good for sea trail, and it it kind of told me roughly where it was. So I thought I didn't want to rock up well uh rock up there, not knowing where to go. So I said to my oh, should we go for a walk? Uh yeah, yeah, oh yeah, that'd be lovely. I said, but take your car because we've got to drive down this dead end, and I'm not gonna uh I'm not sure about the reverse situation. So uh we got a car down this uh you know this uh farm track and uh and I was just like oh shall we shall we stop here? Should we stop it? I knew it was a dead end anyway. She drove all the way to the dead end and had to reverse back up it because it was so tight. Anyway, found somewhere to park and uh even with her small car, even with her small car, yeah. So uh uh we then got off and I went, it's only a two-minute walk, darling. So we got to uh we got to the woods, and you know, left or right, and then she went, Oh, I think it's right, and I went, Well, I think it's left. Um, and uh so I thought who who won? Well, I followed her because uh that's who I am, and it meant that I didn't have to hold her responsibility. But as soon as you went that way, I went, We've gone the wrong way, yeah. So I just went, right, we're gonna have to go see the seas over there, darling. We're just gonna go straight across the woods here towards it. So we chopped across the woods, and then I'm on this track, given it. Uh right. Well, I actually got a map out then and went, right, we need to get this map out. Um, this is honestly, you forget this in Scotland that you can, you know, for what is about 10 or 20 minutes. Well, it's a 10-minute drive from here, but we're in in uh the woods there. Just down the road, yeah. We went, where the fuck are we? We literally was nothing. We were in the middle. Uh it was great, it's gorgeous, but we sat there and went both of us hungry again, a bit narky. She's she's obviously uh over the moon because her hips absolutely clip because we're uh uh my 10-minute walk. She thought, I won't take any painkillers, it's only a little light walk. And next we know we're up and down dunes and all sorts. Um, so yeah, so I got to the uh eventually got to the uh uh location uh where I went to fish, um and then turned around and uh I walked back the correct way this time, so it was slightly uh uh I made a point of saying I told you it was left.

SPEAKER_03

Um just to just to help smooth the situation over. I fucking knew I was right.

SPEAKER_01

I knew I was right.

SPEAKER_03

Uh uh think think of the practice if you were that hungry. Just that is very similar to waiting for you to smoke the meat, so it's good practice.

SPEAKER_01

So we uh uh yeah, so by the time uh you text, I'll just look at the time giving it. I mean, I'm not gonna lie to you. I think I told you six, didn't I? We didn't get home till seven o'clock.

SPEAKER_03

Uh Fran Fran looked looked online and said, Um, they're in the pub. I was like, oh, right. Because we had cancelled by then.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um so when when you text, I'd finished playing golf, so me and Tim had a second point, um, because you knew that you were going to be late. Um, and then you said I said, Oh, I think we'll we better scrub it um for tomorrow till tomorrow night. Um and then Fran looked later, she said, I think they're in the pub. I was like, that doesn't sound lost, that sounds that success.

SPEAKER_01

No, when you when you checked, when you said, uh, should we move on to the we were just finding our way back then that we're on the path, track back then, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And uh yeah, so we we went back via co-op to get some uh uh um beers and uh a have you now gone gone online and uh ordered yourself a flare gun and a wildlife uh survival pack that must be taken.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I it was one of those things I sat there going for a bimbo. We were on a kind of track. I it was a dirt bike track by looks that we're on, and we eventually found um where we were looking for. So uh, but yes, it was uh it was quite amusing. I I did uh giggle for myself when I sat there and went, oh fuck this one. Uh and then uh Anna's hobbling behind, and I'm thinking, oh my god, I'm gonna have to carry her back at some stage.

SPEAKER_03

The bears will catch her first.

SPEAKER_01

And I have noticed, and I I do laugh. I um years of uh any task, leadership task where I've been made to navigate or whatever, like that. Yeah, you know, I I lead from the front, but I lead that far in the front that I can't hear people moaning or just like I'm I I'm almost running ahead of people marching on, yeah. Marching face because I knew Anna would have been was cursing me, and I looked around and she was like half a mile behind him, and I thought, probably need to wait for her here. Um she's hobbling behind me.

SPEAKER_03

She's dead to me though, she she's slowing the group down. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

I was sat there, I was just like, uh have they released have they uh introduced bears or wolves into this forest? I'm not can't remember. Uh the buzzards were circling above us, that was for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but uh she's she's a gunner, she's there's no point, there's no point helping her, she's already gone. Uh but yeah, throw me throw me the car keys, don't walk over, just throw them.

SPEAKER_01

She's trying to get her own back when she gets her new hip, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Oh that's it, mate. You'll be hiking everywhere.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, she will be with her super uh super hip.

SPEAKER_03

I wonder how that's gonna um impact uh your stairs as she goes up and down the stairs with that new hip.

SPEAKER_01

She's allowed, she knows you know, you don't get released on date uh um until you can walk upstairs.

SPEAKER_03

Um did the hospital know how she goes upstairs, though.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, well, I'm hoping that they're gonna fix her gate. She's no longer the uh hill stamp, so you're actually gonna teach her how to walk properly.

SPEAKER_03

This is gonna go one way or the other, mate. So it's gonna be an improvement, or you're gonna need some acro props under the stairs.

SPEAKER_01

I'm I'm gonna speak, I'm gonna I'm gonna give the slip the physio a 50 and say, look, can you just teach her how to uh just tell her it's the hit, but can you just teach her how to walk properly?

SPEAKER_03

Ballet dancing tip top of feet.

SPEAKER_01

See the ball that's where that bit hits the ground first and then the hill. That's the whole purpose, yeah. But um, no, no, all good. Um anyway, uh enough of my foot stomping uh forerunner. I know, yes.

SPEAKER_03

Um she'll poison your salad tonight if she hears this.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah. In fact, I I'm rushing off to to see if we can make this within the hour. I might as well stay in here because I know I've got another uh I'm looking at my um uh meat probes and I'm like, I may have put them in too much too deep, or this is gonna be a really slow cook because it's gone up about 0.8 degrees since we've been for an hour. Oh shit.

SPEAKER_03

Uh you should you should tell Anna, look, it's gonna be a lot longer because the clocks are going forward tonight, and that's mucked up the cooking time.

SPEAKER_01

I tell you what, that's not a bad idea. I might try that one.

SPEAKER_03

There'll there'll be a five second brain clicking in.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, I'll run then. I'll just run. Try out there and disappear and go in the shed or something. Oh, she can't see me. But uh um did I see our uh uh one of our um fitness freaks, uh Vic, is uh got a new boat that he's doing up. Oh I didn't see that I haven't seen that and I hope I messed up. Oh I'm sure I saw a post uh something about a yacht. Um I wasn't paying attention.

SPEAKER_03

He's got a moor and run in old town. Um I was kicked out of the old town uh boat club when we were unceremoniously. Um I uh we're all businesses done in the pub. Um Dale, you do know that uh because you don't live in old town, or you can't be in the boat club, all right? Oh right. And that's that then. That's final. Um but yeah, so so uh Vic Vic's old time boat club, so he may well have a new vessel. Uh um he he's quite good on his um his sailing. I would say he went sailing we did a sailing introduction course at uh with Richard Mills uh sailing centre, which was excellent. Um and Vic was good, but he was on it. He was the same as me, he's sort of novice, and uh we had these sort of little races going around the tracks, but um it wouldn't surprise me if he's got a yacht. Cool. I know he is in training for the silly 100, which um I think it's a hundred kilometre around various islands, um day and night sort of thing. So he's um he's ramping up his training for that. No doubt listening to us as he's um doing the coastal routes, uh unforgiven around here, it's hard, but um he makes it bloody look easy.

SPEAKER_01

It doesn't he uh cool and have you been in have you checked uh reviews lately? What where are we for reviews?

SPEAKER_03

Any uh any passers by the where are we uh where are we trending, shall we say? Where are we trending?

SPEAKER_01

Um uh the US, I think you know the US is still second country in there.

SPEAKER_03

I see that nine percent and the US all the I see um we still hit in Singapore a few times. Uh Germany's come up, Canadia has seen a few Finland.

SPEAKER_04

Who the hell is it?

SPEAKER_03

Finland coming in, you know, Spain, Italy, Finland, Canada, Germany, France, India still again, Poland, um which is very good. Uh we're we're we're international, um, I think it's safe to say. Um definitely yeah, somebody somewhere has hit the wrong button on their uh iPad or iPhone and ended up listening to us, rabbit and shit.

SPEAKER_01

I mean it's the keys in the uh titles, you see, that's what attracts people, and then they go, What the hell's this? and then uh move on.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but I'm just looking at some of the places around the UK that are listening to us as well. There's a place I've never heard of. Um, where is that? I've just I've gone past it now. Um Flitwick, Central Bedfordshire. I've never heard of that. Flipwick, um Lewisham.

SPEAKER_01

You've got a couple of Cockneys in there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, uh, I have heard of it. Lemmington in Hampshire. Uh oh Marlowe, Buckinghamshire. Yeah. Oh, isn't that posh place?

SPEAKER_02

It is, yeah, it is very posh, yeah. Yeah. Oh probably very very big in Marlowe.

SPEAKER_03

Especially when when they hear you talking about your um uh your your smoking, um uh meat smoking, that's uh you'll be trending in Marlowe.

SPEAKER_01

Um I'm hoping the the the Texas and the uh the US uh uh lot will t take on board uh the uh um my barbecue price uh come along.

SPEAKER_03

Uh you're up against some stiff competition out there, I reckon. Well yeah, I reckon so yeah. Um Broadway, Worcestershire Normanton, Wakefield, Lambeth, that's London, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01

It is Lambeth, yeah. Yeah, couple of cockneys, I don't think we're in there in the in the in the capital and Norfolk. Um that wasn't your Norfolk accent.

SPEAKER_03

That's clearly not a Norfolk accent, but uh it's it's uh uh Bromsgrove, Worcestershire and Chiswick, Hounslow. Is that uh your old stomping ground sort of way, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's all London. That's all kind of Londonish, really. Yeah, you forget how many boroughs of London there are all connected around them. They all stretch out from there, but uh you know, once you look at Greater London, it all after that it all stretches out to all those ones there, but they're all accessible in the kind of the tube map. Um it's all one place to me. Well, it is, it is, it is literally just one big place. Yeah, you're right. Cool, right. Well, uh that's uh uh I think that's time up for us, buddy. We've got anything uh desperate to scream out about?

SPEAKER_03

No, no, well, we've got a week ahead. Um we got a really well work again, but um quite a busy week ahead, uh, which would be useful, but starting to uh ramp up a few ideas for uh water carnival weekend in August. Um uh hopefully get our tinterweb connection. Hopefully the patio uh works will commence. Um what else are we doing this week? I think that's enough. I think that's more than enough. Um I'm sat here in the in the lounge. Um Fran's got the oh she asked me to put the fire on because whilst it is cold outside, um we needed it to be 82 and a half degrees Celsius in the house. Uh it is so hot. The dog is well, I can say it's a coma. Um she is just looking for anywhere to get some cool uh area of floor. Um the cats are loving it, so they're sort of just they look as if you could spread them. They look like target so fucking hot in here. Um uh real world problems. We've actually got windows open in the kitchen and uh and the lounge. Love it. And it's still too hot. No mind. Um we've got plenty of wood uh to burn from uh thanks to Storm Garetti. Not that that were it's um it is seasoned wood. I mean it's that we've got wood in the house here that's that hot. It's we're we're doing our own kiln dried wood and in the house dried wood. Nice, it's it's basically turning it to fuck fucking sawdust.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Making them charcoal uh in the house. Yeah, excellent. Cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, no, sorry, uh fairly busy week. What about you?

SPEAKER_01

Um just been looked at the map then, so I'm hoping to get some fish in. I've got golf tomorrow, charity day tomorrow, and it's blowing 50 mile an hour winds and freezing cold, so I'm really looking forward to that. Uh but it's all for charity, it's for the kids. Uh, and then uh uh and then next week um some stuff, but hoping to get some fishing in and golf. Um now all these uh longer days now. I've got plenty of time for uh multiple activities, really.

SPEAKER_03

So uh I'm looking forward to next week's story of uh smoking this massive trout that you're gonna catch. Um they'll catch and release, mate.

SPEAKER_01

They're all catching release. Well you pay sea trout. Well, the sea trout um um is a uh uh I think I can keep one of those if I get one.

SPEAKER_03

But uh smoke you can't keep what the hell are you paying? Pay a stupidly expensive license and then say, yeah, put it back, mate. All that money you've spent and all that gear, not keeping it in nature, mate. You can't give you a pirates down there where you just go round hoarding and as they say, there is plenty more fish in the sea that they will not miss one.

SPEAKER_01

Well, if I get a decent, if I get a catch and eat salmon up here, bloody hell. Call your school Scotsland. Uh sea trout. Uh salmon, you get you would get shot if you tried to keep one of those. Um, but this sea trout will uh if I catch a decent size sea trout, you'll know about it, don't we?

SPEAKER_03

But uh the the world will know about it. Yes, they will and this hip operation will be interrupted to announce the news that exactly a fish to burnish, mate.

SPEAKER_01

A fish, least by the knot. Um and the fish has stayed on. I mean, that's that's the headline there, straight away.

SPEAKER_03

As a winner, that is a uh and drop the rod and walk off.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, exactly. Yes, cool. All right, buddy. Well, that's a lovely leave you, and I'll uh and I'll catch you next week.

SPEAKER_03

I'll see you then. Thanks, man.

SPEAKER_01

Look forward to it, mate. Cheers then.
